Hi Gary - I'm sorry but I can't help you there. My Lemals were in the States in the late 1800's. My grandmother was Bertha Lemal and her father was Jacques LeMal. I have nothing on him.
Keep looking...
Don

Hi, We are trying to find out about our father's family.
He was called Thomas Keith Florent Lemal and was born December 2, 1945 and died August 14, 1988. He was born in Hebden, Yorkshire, England and his father came over from Belgium in the second world war. He contracted TB whilst on the South coast of England and had to go to an isolation hospital in Hebden, where my grandmother, Iris Bell was a nurse. He died before my father was born.We know very little else about our family and any other information would be gratefully received. Thanks, Gary Lemal.

I'm afraid there may be needless confusion here.

The Lamal who was born in Overijse, Belgium in 1827, who married Johanna Adams in Belgium in 1855 and who subsequently emigrated to the US, settled in the Green Bay area where he fathered two sons with Johanna, Peter and Julius Lamal, and who finally died of malaria in the Civil War at a Memphis army hospital in 1863, was, according to Belgian birth records, named "Andreas", not "Andrew".

In fact, it would not make sense for a child born in Belgium to be named "Andrew" which is, after all an anglicised variation. The Belgian name would be either "Andreas" (among the Flemish) or Andre' (among the Walloons). The fact that first names among the Belgian Lamals are a melange of Flemish and French styles reflects the fact that the family traces its origins to the Brabant, on the border between the Flemish and French speaking regions of Belgium.

Please let's not compound the confusion by dragging in a completely inappropriate name such as "Andrew"
