A biography/family history of Joseph A. Lemire is included in "Montana, Its Story and Biography", Vol 2, pg 509.

Parents: Dr. Adolph Lemire, b. 1847, Three Rivers, Quebec; spent his life in Essex County, Quebec; died in Tecumseh, Ontario, in 1911. Married Azilda Lupien, b. 1849, Arthabaska County, Quebec; died in Tecumseh, Ontario, in 1917. Nine children: Adolph, Joseph A., Arthur, Ross E., Fred, Henry, Anna (Mrs. Israel Parent); Azilda (Mrs. Constant Carrierre), one child died in infancy.

Joseph A. Lemire was educated in Ontario schools and worked for 4 years in a general store in Windsor, Ontario. In 1895, he located to Anaconda, MT, where he worked as clerk and office manager of McCallum & Clotier Merchantile Co.

In 1909, Joseph opened a general store in Ronan, MT. The store was destroyed by fire in 1912. It was rebuilt into one of the best equipped stores in the county. He became post master and mayor of Ronan.

In 1905, Grand Forks, ND, Joeph married Miss May McLean, daughter of Hugh and Hattie (Tolan) McLean. Children: Gertrude, b. 1906; Hugh, b. 1908; Paul, b. 1910; Marjorie, b. 1914(Mrs. Bernard J. Jacoby); Lois, b. 1917, Mary, b. 1927. In the 1930 Federal Census, the family was living in Mission, Lake County, MT.

Joseph A. Lemire, died at age 60, 11 Mar 1934, Lake County, MT.
Marie Lemire, died at age 64, 8 Dec 1947.
