I am trying to research the Leming family in Rome, Ga. I have found some information but not very much and from what my mother does know, she's a Leming, the family was a rough bunch and the older generation didn't want to talk about them so a lot of the history has died or passed on now. I have some family stories I would love to share and compare if anyone knows anything. My email is chell2981@hotmail.com or jeantims@hotmail.com. Thanks!

I went to college with a Glenda Lemming. WE ram around with John Horn, Don Crosby, and Mary Frances Cummings. I have remained in contact with Don and Mary Frances and we would like to know about Glenda.
Is this the same Glenda Lemming since she was from Oklahoma city?
Is she still alive? We were all about the same age--I'm 71
If so where is she and would she contact me?
Deke Blagdon

Hi Larry - The l870 birthdate for Mary was from her tombstone, but since then, I've found out that she was born on Feb. 10, 1882, which was a month after her father, Herman, died (from the records at St. Mary's, Morning View.). I also found William "Bit" and Mary's marriage record from the cathedral in Covington, which said they were married on June 9, 1909.
Hope all is well with you - I'm finally getting time to do some research again! - Sue

LEMYNG DNA SURNAME RE LEMMING/LENNING

The Lemyng DNA project has indicated a willingness to accept variations of the surname to join their group. We would like to have several volunteers from as many variations as possible. I would like to invite all variations of the surnames Lenning, Lanning, Linning, Lennin, Lenon, Leaning, Tinning, Lening, Leming, Lemming, Leving, Limming to join. We have tested 2 Lenning's who match the Lemyng group better than they match each other through ancestry.com. I know that it's a little expensive but I really think this is going to be answer to where our ancestors originated and how all the surnames are connected. There are too many coincidences within our family stories for their not to be some relationship between Lenning, Lanning and Lemming for their not to be some connection. Testing with the Lemyng Group will lower the cost of testing as opposed to testing as an individual. Check out the DNA site on ancestry.com and/or contact me at raytiques@charter.net.
Rayna Moore
California
I am looking for a John Lemming that was born in Kentucky around 1825 or so. He married a Hyden their and had a Daughter Berthena 1843. Then they moved to Ohio and had a son William H. 1845. Then on to Missouri. He shows up in the 1850 Greene Co Mo census by his self. Children are with their grand parents. I don't know what county in Kentucky or Ohio they were in. The reason I think his father may be William is they used to name their children after their parents. The H in the childs name is Hiram which is his Mothers Father. I would apprecitae any help.

Lenning Family Website

We are starting a Lenning Family Website on myfamily.com for the Lenning surname in any of its variations, Leaning, Linning, Lemming, Lenon, etc. My particular Lenning ancestor is brickwalled at abt 1800 Tennessee and he then moves to Georgia abt 1840 and I would love to get past Tennessee. There is a story of three brothers, one settling in the North, one in the South, and one may have died at sea or in the gold rush. Also there is a Leaming surname DNA group on ancestry.com that we can submit to to find if any of us match, find possible geographical origins and Native American ties. If any Lenning is interested please contact me at raytiques@charter.net
I have also decended from Lemmings in New Jersey! I have found that my g-g-g-great grandfather John Wesley Archer (b. March 1806 in Ocean County, NJ - d. July 12, 1872 in Ocean County NJ) married (my g-g-g-great grandmother) Charlotte Lemming (born 1815 in Ocean County - d. Aug 12, 1897 in Ocean County). Her parents names were Samuel and Vashti Lemming, but I do not know when or where THEY were born. I would REALLY appreciate it if you were to email me with as much of your Lemming lineage you know...we may have a connection, since I have not found any other "NJ Lemmings" until now! THANKS!
Does anyone have any information on any Lemmings from NJ. I only have that my g-g-g-great grandfather, John Wesley Archer married a Charlotte Lemming (born in 1815 in Plumstead Twp, Ocean County, NJ). She died August 12, 1897 in Plumstead Twp, Ocean County, NJ. Her parents are listed as Samuel and Vashti Lemming. Does anyone have a Charlotte Lemming (born around 1815) in their lineage? Also is there one particular country where the Lemming name comes from? I don't even know what nationality she was. If you have any information that could help me, please email me at MissyS@zbzoom.net

I have a lemming branch on my late mother's side of the family. My information is very very sketchy, but here goes!
My in formation relates to England - most probably in Lincolnshire.
My grand aunt Kitty Long married Harold Lemming, a farmer. They had a daughter Margery who married.
Kitty's parents were William Long 1827 - 1899 (a law clerk) and Susannah Marshall 1848 - 1895 from Wainfleet, Lincs. They lived at Spalding, Lincs.

Are there any connections, or living descendants? With such a rare name, it is most likely you can help.

Regards happy hunting.

Hi forever, I have a great deal of info on the Leming/Lemming in the southeastern U.S. Most of the info I have relates to eastern Tenn. from 1802 thru the 1830's and then to Rome Georgia where many of the Leming/Lemming family settled. My gg-grandfather was Ransom Riley Leming and my ggg-grandfather was Levi Leming Married in Tenn. in 1828. No info past Levi and have been looking hard for a long time, any help would be appreciated. I do have a tape handed down to me that gives info that Levi came from Amsterdam Holland as a stowaway and settled in Tenn. before moving to Rome, Ga. and raising a family. I"m glad he did or I would'nt be here. feel free to contact and I promise not to take 6 months to reply. good hunting Larry Lemming

Interesting. I am trying to locate a Susannah Marshall who was born in England in 1859 and emigrated to Baltimore, Maryland in April 1883. In 1884, she filed for US naturalization listing the above information. She is also in the 1885 Dakota Territory census. She received land patents in Walsh County, North Dakota in 1889 for about 100 acres of ranch land. She then married Delbert Buchanan and moved to Montana where she died ging birth to her fifth child in Helena, Mt. in about 1898. Would you have any ideas on a connection? Thanks. JP57@Hotmail.com
