Hi I am trying to track down any information or hereditary links to Thomas Albert Lemon born around 1917-1919. He was out in India during WW2 and then I believe went to Australia after the war for a few years and then onto Northern Rhodesia/South Africa. He married Lillian Stewart in 1941 in Calcutta and had a son David in Calcutta in 1944. If anyone has any information on him or his forebears it would be greatly appreciated.

My great-great Grandfather was also John Harvey Lemon, born in Bath or Greenbrier County Va in 1825 and married first to my great-great grandmother, Elizabeth James. Yes they had two daughters and Elizabeth died at the birth of the second. Yes he was later married a second time, this wife named Narcissus Bandy, who also reared my great-grandmother Mary Ellen or Elizabeth (Mollie) Peters, and her younger sister Sarah Jane, (Sally)Lemon Craft. I did not know that John Harvey Lemon served in the Confederate Army. My grandfather was David Lemon Peters, son of Henry George Peters and Mary Ellen Lemon. Do you have any documentation on the above? I would be willing to share mine with you. Thanks!

Dear Sherry: At this point I don't know if there is a connection. I know only that my great grandmothers maiden name was Rosa James, that she was born in Indiana (place and date unknown, but probably around 1880) and that her mothers maiden name was Lemon, first name unknown. If I (ever) find out any more than that I'll be able to answer your question about a connection with Will.

John LEMON

A man by the name of John Lemon served with George Rogers Clark in the Illinois Brigade of the Virginia Militia and received bounty land in Clark Co Indiana. This is the group of 175 rangers that captured the British forts at Kaskasia and Cahokia, Illinois and Vincennes, Indiana, during the revolution. I would like information on this man for the following reason:

My G,G,G, grandmother was Betsey Lemon Pittman Ramsey. I am unsure if the "Lemon" was a maiden name or a family name. I do know that her husband, James Ramsey, served with the John Lemon mentioned above. Also, a brother (or son by an earlier marriage?) was named William Lemon Pittman, and he included the name Lemon in the names of several of his offspring. I am, perhaps, grasping at straws, looking for a connection. Nevertheless, Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Don Fleming

I'm glad to see someone else has info about some ships. My Lemons roots are in Indiana, but one branch of them in Franklin,In. has the line traced back past the ships. I was told that there were 3"LEMONS" on one of the ships (2 males & 1 female). I have 2 brothers left and I've gotten them to do the DNA thing to prove which one of the Lemons"s we descended from. I have never seen anyone else with any info about "ships". I do not have any contact with the Lemons in Franklin, Indiana (wish I did). They did not like my branch because there were several drunks in the line.

A Larkin-Lemon Lemons connection?

Hello John. My paternal side of the family is mostly from Gloucester Co., VA. Through facts gathered so far and a strong gut feeling, I'm convinced these ancestors were descendants of one of the Powhatan tribes: Pamunkey, Mattaponi or perhaps even Cherokee, and mixed with Scots-Irish. But I have run across the name Larkin sprinkled across my path of possible relatives, also the name Driver is connected but I haven't figured out how yet. We have an old oral history legend that some ancestors had some yet to be discovered connection to some major event that happened on the border between North Carolina and Virginia. Still working on that one. Anything sound familiar hear? John Lemon

I wonder if this Jacob Lemon married to Sarah Macklem could be the same one I have, married to Sarah McClure. If the minister was a bad speller, the names could be the same. The age and place fits, as my Jacob’s parents died in Lemonville. This is what I have on Jacob:

Jacob Lemon, son of Jacob Lemon (1788-?) & Bridget “Bettie” Brown, born about March 12, 1810, ten days after his mother died. He had a sister Margaret who married Robert Ferguson Whiteside. The father Jacob was the son of my ancestors John Lemon & Elizabeth Titman.

If you can confirm your Jacob’s birthdate through cemetery records and find it is the same person, I can give you a lot more on his ancestry.

Lois

Annie Pools father was James Louden Pool of Aspatria and his brother James Pool of Aspatria mrd Mary Tiffin brn ard 1844 in Aspatria, d/o of Joseph Tiffin. Mary died Aug 15 1880 at the age of 36yrs, I suspect of childbirth, as she left a baby behind. I also have surname "Graves" in my tree.

The 1861 census for Whitchurch twp on page 1 of section 8 shows this family living on Concession 7 lot 5: Jacob Lemon 51 and his wife Sarah Ann [Macklem]41 with daughters Ann 23, Margaret 20, Sarah 12, Jane 5, and sons William 14, Jacob 10, Robert 2. The Home District marriages show that Rev. William Jenkins married Jacob Lemon and Sarah Ann Macklem on th 16th of March 1837. [Rev. Jenkins was a notoriously bad speller of names, and wrote "Leeman" for Jacob's surname.] All family members were born in Ontario [or Canada West as the census says]. This location is at Lemonville, about 5 miles to the north east of Dickson's Hill.

Jacob and Sarah are buried in the Dickson's Hill Cemetery, along with children Ann, William and wife Susannah Brillinger [and their son Wilmot], Elizabeth Jane, Sarah and Jacob.

With so much gloucester county success happening, I thought to write and inquire about Emily (GG-grandmother) and/or her mother Sally Lemon who was born around 1792 in gloucester county.

Sally was mulatto and had two children, Emily and Addison. Addison died in the civil war at the age of ~28.

Do any of these names ring a bell for you? If so, please email me at MsMaryKay_10034@yahoo.com.
My great-great grandfather was John Harvey Lemon, born in Bath County, Virginia, in 1825 and married first to Elizabeth James. They had two daughters, and Elizabeth died at the birth of the second. He was later married a second time, this wife named Narcissus Bandy, who reared my great-grandmother, Sarah Jane Lemon (Craft) and her younger sister, Mary Ellen. John Harvey Lemon served in the Confederate Army. After the war, the faimily moved to Calloway in Franklin County, Virginia. Mary Ellen married Henry G. Peters, and they moved to Nebraska, where they had eight children. I have a few more details, if you're interested.

Hi Sabrina,
I found your post and wanted to say hi. My grandfather was Francis Lemon Landon. My dad is Warren Prud'homme Landon. I remember hearing the names Gardner and Denny as a kid. I think they stood out because they were unusual. I would love to find out any info you have on the Lemon family. I had no idea there was an Irish link. Do you have any more info on that? I'd love to hear from you. I'm not exactly sure what our technical connection is (ie third cousin three times removed;-) however it would be fun to find out more about our families.

I hope you folks are still out there and well, thanks for the info on Larkin, I have not heard a thing. I just can't find any info at all. My Grandfather was Harvey Martin (I think it was Martin) Lemons of San Francisco Ca. He married Isabel Elsley (not sure of spelling) they had 5 kids, Barbara, John, (My Dad) Isabel,Marilyn And Valerie. Any and all info greatly appreciated. I promise to check back quicker this time :) THANKS.

Louis Lemmon, b 9 May 1825 OH, was the son of Alexis and Patience (Foster) Lemmon who were both born in MD. Much of this family died from cholera in 1849 in Coleraine Twp, Hamilton Co., OH. Louis and Eve Herring were m. 16 Oct 1849 in Hamilton Co., OH. In 1860 they migrated to Grant Co., IN. Since your grandmother was born in 1845, I have wondered if she is the youngest surviving child of the Alexis Lemmon family. There is an Arranetta listed in the estate settlement.

Hi, Laura,

We've communicated before, back in 2007. :) We discovered that we are indeed "cousins". I haven't gotten any further on my research, other than finding the descendents of my great-grandfather's siblings, which was very exciting. I also create a web site with all my information: www.lemon-knapp.org. There is Tiffen information on there as well. I have been in contact with a Canadian Tiffen who was very helpful in that respect.

Good luck in your research!

Denise

In reference to your query about the family that attended the church in Ravenhill Rd, Belfast. My wife's family lived in that area, the only family of that name (Lemon) My wife's father's name was Moses Lemon and her grandfather's name was Robert, born around the 1870s. That is all the information that we can confirm at this time but there may have been a brother Samuel or Father 1850s samuel, however the family had a fall out and someone went to USA or Canada. That is as much as we know at this time.

Her and her three next siblings - Margaret, Letitia and David were all born in Roslea, County Fermanagh. The next five - Thomas, Clemena, Henry, Susan and Artie were all born in Killycronaghan, Killeevan, County Monaghan. Their parents were John Lemon and Harriet Williamson, married Presbyterian Church, Smithboro, Co. Monaghan, EIRE on 18/01/1867. John's father was David Lemon, but I don't know whether his mother was Mary Patten, Martha Hetherington or Mary Todd, or indeed someone else, as there are three possible records.
Seeking any information on any of these people,
Thanks,
David

Could this be James Harvey Lemon of Nodaway County, Missouri?

A few years ago, I found this old photo in a trunk belonging to my late uncle in Nebraska. There was no name or date on the photo; however, on the back were written these words: "Byron's grandfather." I assumed that this was a man named Alva G. Skinner who was one of Byron's grandathers; however, other pictures of Alva do not look like the one in this picture. And it is not a photo of the other grandfather, Thomas Morris. There was a rumor in the family that my grandmother, whose son was Byron, was born out of wedlock. Has anyone ever seen this picture? Can anyone tell me who he is? Thank you.
