William Lemons JR. married to Amy Reece has already been confirmed by DNA to be part of a large Lemons Family in South Eastern Tennessee. There is a Lemons DNA group page already that includes this family and many members are working on this family.

http://groups.ancestry.com/site/lemons/

William Lemons SR traveled to TN with his brothers, Thomas, Levi, Jesse, and John.
Lavinia Lemons Wheeler (1817-1860) wife of Ransom Wheeler

For years, researchers have been searching for the parents of Lavinia Lemons Wheeler. I may have finally solved the mystery.

To go backwards and find her parents, I had to first go forwards.

From Thomas/Elizabeth Wheeler to son John Wheeler to son William Wheeler to son Ransom Wheeler to son Lycurgus.

Lycurgus and his wife Amanda Choate raised three of their grandchildren after their daughter died in 1901 and her husband died in 1903. One of those grandchildren, Evie Dockens Wilson wrote an article for the History of Shelby County 1988. In it she says that no one knows Lavinia's parents but there was a cousin Homer Lemons who often came to visit (p. 893).

Using that hint, I easily located Homer Lemons in Shelby County. He was even living with Lavinia's grandson in the 1920 Census.

Homer is too young to be a brother; however, his father is not too young. Homer's father is William Emmett Lemons. William's parents married in 1816 and Lavinia was born in 1817. It is William's parents that I believe are Lavinia's.

Samuel M. Lemons and Elizabeth Ann Weldon Lemons were from Cades Cove, Blount Co., TN but were both born in Pennsylvania. I believe some of their children include Lavinia 1817, Curran Weldon 1820, Joseph W. 1822, William Emmett 1824 and Cynthia Jane 1826. This would make Homer Lavinia's nephew and a "cousin" to her great-grandchildren, as Evie remembered.

It's the best clue I think we've had. Of course, there are always other possibilities.
Tina

JUST RECEIVED DNA RESULTS FOR MY COUSIN AND IT PUTS US IN HAPLOGROUP Q (AMERICAN INDIAN.) OUR GRANDFATHER WAS JAMES LEMONS/LEMMONS BORN IN TN 1857 AND DIED IN AR 1924 BUT LIVED IN COWLINGTON OK. HIS DEATH CERT LISTS HIS FATHER AS DAVE. WE KNOW NOTHING ABOUT HIS SIDE OF THE FAMILY. I FOUND HIM IN THE 1910 CENSUS IN CRAWFORD COUNTY AR WITH OUR GRANDMOTHER LOUELLA (LULA) AND OLDER DAUGHTERS CLARA AND MYRTLE. IT LISTS THIS AS HIS 2ND MARRIAGE. OTHER KIDS JESS/JAKE, SAM (FEMALE REAL NAME SEVELLAR) MARIE AND ROY LEMONS ALL DECEASED NOW. CANNOT FIND THEM IN ANY OTHER CENSUS EXCEPT THE OLDER GIRLS IN 1930 MARRIED TO BROTHERS (ALONZO AND JOHN YOUNG) IN SPIRO AND COWLINGTON, OK. LOOKING FOR ANYONE WHO MAY HAVE A DAVID LEMONS PROBABLY BORN AROUND 1830 OR SO. THANKS, SHIRLEY

If this genealogy is still available I would be interested in purchasing it. Although I am not a Lemons descendant, I am descended from Moses Hedrick, Greenbrier, WV whose daughter Leah, married a Lemons. Leah is the ancestor of Lawrence Lemons, Pauline's husband, and it was he who compiled the genealogy. Jeannette Hedrick Bodurtha

What company did he use?

I have lots of conflicting info about the names and dates of Samuels wifes and who had what kids. Is there a online tree that has the correct data that I could look at. I have Nancy Ann Rhea as one of the wives and mother to several children. You have Hassey?

As far as DNA we know now that Samuels father William Lemons Jr born 1799 was the first cousin to my family line. William Jr's father William I Lemons b1779. The DNA test proved that William SR and my Oldest known ancestor Levi Lemons were brothers. We have had other DNA matches but have not found all the connection yet, including who might possibly be our immigrant ancestor.

Please join my group and come contribute and share what you have and get to know your other cousins.

If you have a male lemons in your family, you have what you need to possibly add the most people to your tree with proof then anything else available online. Getting that person DNA tested at 33 markers or more, may help you find many branches and possibly the immigrant who came to this country. That is what has happened to my search since having my uncle get tested. We verified 3 branches that we thought were connected and found 3 other branches that we had no clue about including one that may be our first immigrant, they have a different spelling.
Kari,
She is from the same line as me. We both come from Samuel Lemons. Theodore R. Lemons was my great grandfather, Jesse's half brother...having different mothers. We have emailed some privately but since my dad has already taken the DNA test for this line would you mind explaining to her what it has shown for our family? I think you can explain the DNA results better than I. Thanks, Erica

Kari,
I am fixing to look at your group right now, didn't have a chance to before cause last night I went to dad's and got everything from his basement I could find that I thought might help. Anyway, at first I thought that Nancy Ann Rhea was my Great Grandfather Theodores mother. When I started looking around I found what i hope is all of the correct dates for Samuel's marriages. The one that I found listed Nancy Ann Rhea as marrying him 11-6-1885 as his 2nd wife. Then Martha J Loy 1-10-1889, then Nancy A Hassey on 4-2-1889. Theodore was born 3-18-1908 so from everything we have my family and I believe that Nancy Hassey would of been his mother. Unfortunately my grandfather, Theodore's son passed away in 2001 but I am going to try to contact my grandfather's sister to see if she can tell me anything at all. As soon as I find out for sure I will post it.
I do have some pictures with Theodore as a baby with a female in the pictures. If anyone has pictures of any of Samuels wives to where they know for sure which one it is we could all compare.
Also Erica, you have been a great help. All of this looking and researching has put my father in such a wonderful mood waiting to find out what else I might find.

Thanks, to both of you for the help..

Jeanie

From everything that I can find, Samuel married Elizabeth Roberts first and had 4 children. Samuel and Elizabeth I believed married around jun of 1870. The next marriage was to Nancy Ann Rhea nov of 1885, Samuel and Nancy A Rhea had one child. His next wife was Martha J Loy that marriage took place jan of 1889. Samuel and Martha had 2 children from everything that i can find. Then Ten years later around april of 1899 he married Nancy A Hassey. Samuel and Nancy Hassey had Theodore which was my great great grandfather. Samuel and Nancy also had 3 other children together besides Theodore. Im fixing to email you the line. I go by Jeanie. I was named after a grandparent (jean) and then a great grandmother (sarah).

I am the grand daughter of Johnny Eugene Lemons (04/03/1936) - (01/19/2001). My grandfather was the son of Theodore Roosevelt Lemons (03/18/1908) - 08/1971) and Nancy Hassey. Theodore was the son of Samuel Lemons (10/24/1846) - 06/22/1923). Any information that anyone has on my ancestors please share with me if you can. I just started a month ago trying to research both sides of my father's family, the Lemons side and the Cunningham side.
Any help would be appreciated.

I found a death cert where a Cynthia Ann Lemmons dob 10-23-1857 died 5-12-1942 in Jasper County MO, Father James A., Mother Francis Greene, husband Silas Lemmons. Since last name of Mother is not Penney it's probably not her but I would check it out. It's a free site. SOS State Archives-Death Certificates or Missouri Digital Heritage-Death records certificates. Good Luck, Shirley

I have recently been able to get an obit on my Grandfather, James Lemons born in TN. He died in Ft Smith AR at ST Edwards Hospital on 7-8-1924 and his body taken back to Cowlington, OK. His Father is listed as Dave on the obit, mother unknown and 66 years old, so he would have been born around 1858 or 1859. His middle initial has been several different things. I'm almost positive on his marriage license it has James E Lemons and on another death record it has him as James L Lemons and on his obit is has him as James M Lemons. On both the death records/obit it lists his death date as 7-8-1924 and in Sebastian County AR. Does anyone have a David Lemons/Lemmons in their tree? Thanks, Shirley

James Leroy Lemons born around 1873 TN

I've been searching for years for my Grandfather James Lemons born in TN around 1865. The only thing I have to back that up is the 1910 census in Crawford County AR Richland TWN where he was living with my Grandmother, Louella, and 2 of my Aunts, Clara and Myrtle. I also found a marriage license (online) where a James E Lemons married Louella Fraley in 1902 in Crawford County AR. I just heard from a cousin who says his name was James Leroy Lemons and he was born in 1873 in Memphis, TN, and died in Fort Smith Arkansas around 1920. Does anyone out there know of a James Leroy Lemons born in TN around 1873 with a sister or Mother named Mary Jane? Thanks, Shirley Grnyshirl@aol.com

James Lemons/Lemmons TN/AR/OK New Info

I just heard from a cousin who said our James Lemons/Lemmons was born in 1873 not 1865 like I thought (and like the 1910 census says, Crawford CO, Arkansas, Richland TWN). I know the census is not always right. He also said his name was James Leroy Lemons not James E Lemons, and he traced them back to England. He also said James Lemons father was John Lemons and either Mother or sister was Mary Jane. I don't think anything was verified, but am wondering if anyone out there knows anything about a James Leroy Lemons born in TN and died in FT Smith AR after getting kicked in the head by a horse?

I received an obit for James Lemons and it states he died in Ft. Smith, AR 1924 at St. Edwards Hosp. He was kicked by a horse near Cowlington, OK and taken to Ft. Smith, AR where he died. The obit lists him as 66 (no DOB)born in TN Father, Dave, mother unknown and survived by wife Lula and 4 daughters and 2 sons. Does anyone have anyone in their tree by the name of James Lemons with father Dave that fits this info? Thanks, Shirley

My name is Katherine Kade and I was adopted in the year 1990. I was placed for adoption by my mother Anetra Lemons the daughter of George Lemons. I have tried to establish connect with my family and suffered many failed attempts. I though that by pursuing this site it would provide me with some insight of my ancestral background since I am not going to receive the information from my own family, and am inquiring the assistance from people on this site to guide me. Here is all that I know:

* My mother's name is Anetra Lemons, she grew up in Huntsville Alabama but then moved with her family to Fort Worth Texas.
* I have 3 sisters named, Drameeka, Shannon and Brittany
* I have a brother named Tracy.
*My Grandfather's name is George Lemons.
* My second cousin is Tamron Hall, the news anchor for Msnbc, I believe.
* My family has a very mixed linage. We have several different backgrounds that constitute our blood line.

If you can help me in any way, it is much appreciated.

Ps. I am going to do the DNA testing so if anyone would like to compare with my results, I would be more than wiling.

I believe from what you are telling me that we are probably distant cousins. I'm so very thankful that you took the time to compose this email to me. I know very little about my family as a result of being adopted but I believe that my grandfather is George W. Lemons Jr., which makes since. My theory is, We are related by my alleged grandfather , George W. Lemons. Your grandma Lise and my grandfather George are half siblings? From what I know, George Lemons Jr. resides in Fort Worth Texas within miles of my biological mother.
I am hoping there is a connection because I tried to contact my biological family and it was a terrible rejection. This is so fascinating. Tell me more if you can. What was Haydee's ethnicity, French? Do you know the women in which George W. Lemons Sr. remarried to conceive my grandpa? Is Arthur Hall the relative of Tamron? if so, this will start to produce a line of similarities for us.

Thank you so much!

Katie

Hi David!

My great grandfather was William Valorus Lemons, b. 1844 in S Carolina. John and Lucy were his parents. I have not been able to find out much about them- not even their burial spot. Maybe if we compare notes we can find a lead- divide and conquer, right?
Thanks, Ramona Merrill ramona.merrill@ggp.com

Re: Lemons in Texas or Alabama

I don't know if there is a connection, but my great grandfather is George W Lemons (pronounced Lay mans) from Texas. I have a very extensive family tree, but I know nothing about his parents or siblings. He was married to Haydee Decuir from Louisiana, their child was Lise (pronounced Leese) Lemons (my grandmother). Haydee died when Lise was about three. Her father George was remarried about two years later and had a son named George W Lemons Jr. I have hit a brick wall with any info about him.

Like I said, I'm not sure if there is connection, but there are a few interesting similarities: We are a very "mixed" family also, the names of Lemons and Hall are in your family (Lise Lemons married Arthur Hall from North Carolina, my grand father), and your Lemons family was in Texas at some point.

If you think there may be a connection, holla back @ me.
