I am looking for my dad's half brother and sister. Roesmary's maiden name would have been Lenard. I believe her married name is Boussart or something of the sort. I know they used to live in the Washington State area. I've never met either of them. My dad was by my grandfather's second marriage. My grandfather was Stephen Lenard from Michigan. Please contact me at dlenard@lakelandtitleco.com if you have any info.

Well my family came from Poland when my grandpa Lenard was a young boy...probably around 1920's. I don't know much about his family but I know when they came to the US the paperwork says Lenard.

Old Photo of Francis Lenard - Likely 1870

I recently purchased a bunch of old photos. One of the photos shows a man is labeled on the back "Francis Lenard". Unfortunately I do not know where this photo was taken. I would guess that this photo was taken around 1865-1870.

Attached is a copy of the photo. If this is one of your ancestors, please contact me.

Not really on the "origin" topic, but...

For my family from (current) Southern Poland:
From 184x records I have, the name in Polish characters,
appears as- Lenart

When a bunch of brothers emigrated to the US (Wisconsin), in
the 1870-80s, it appears as- Lenard

After a while some of the brothers started using- Leonard,
while others did not.

Also, subsequient generations within the ones who still used
Lenard, also (randomly) switched to using Leonard.

My grandfather & father both have Lenard on thier birth certificates.
But at some time they both started using- Leonard

While my fathers younger siblings have Leonard on thier certs.

Our family has been spelling our name Leonard for 3 generations now but my great grandfather spelled his name Lenard. He was in the service of the Tennessee Cavalry
Co.K 2nd Tennessee Cavalry but after the civil was he went to Mexico and got married to a Spanish lady named Aurelia Navarro. They migrated back to America to Los Angeles CA.
The twist is that my father said we were English or Irish but his sister (my aunt)said we were of German ancestry.
Daniel Leonard.
Re: searching for Lenard's Tenn and Texas

Here is what I've found so far. This is from ancestry.com, searching the internet, and rootsweb.com.

Lelton Lenard is the son of Harvey Felton Lenard and Laura Waits/Waite. Harvey is the son of James "Loss" Lenard and Clara. James was born May 1876 in Memphis, TN. Clara was born May 1882 in Texas. James' parents were both born in TN. Clara's father was from LA, mother from TX.

Laura Waits is the daughter of Robert H. Waits/Waitt and his 2nd wife Nillie. His first wife was Nancy B. Capps. Robert was born in July 1859 in TX and married Nillie in approx. 1908. Nillie was born approx. 1890 in TX. I have not found anything else on her. Robert's parents are Stokely Donaldson and Amanda A. Waites/Wates. Stokely died in 1862, likely in the Civil War. Amanda remarried and her Waits children are listed under her 2nd husband's name in 1870 (Ephraim Priest). The Waits line has been extensively researched on ancestry.com and goes back to the 1500s.

Here are some of my census sources:
1850 Chickasaw, MS - Stokely D. & Amanda A. Waits
1860 Garden Valley, Smith, TX - L.D. & Amanda Wates
1870 Garden Valley, Smith, TX - Ephraim & Amanda Priest
1880 Van Zandt, TX - Ephraim & Amanda Priest, Robert H. Waite
1910 Angelina, TX - Robert H. & Nillie Waits
1930 Angelina, TX - H. F. & Laura Lenard

I hope this helps! Best wishes - R.

Re: Cora Ellen LENARD in TN + NC

Hi Gloria,

Since posting that in 2001 I have acquired alot more info on Cora. She died April 19, 1966 in NC and buried in Hickory Chapel Cemetery in High Point. I met both Cora and Bert Miller when I was very young and upon further research into both of their's ancestry I found there is mainly German and American Indian ancestry. I have Cora listed as having 7 brothers and sisters but none that would match your E.B. I also checked to see if I had any Hill's married to a Miller but there was none. As you know most Indians were not looked upon well either so they may have been catogorized as black, I don't know. Bert descends from Wendel Miller who married one of Black Hawk's daughters and he was a Church of God minister. There is some speculation as to the validity of this claim that the Blackhawk's dau married Wendell but family history and photos bear this out in my mind. Anyway, I don't think this is your Cora but if you need more info, I'd be happy to send it. Hope you find her. Thanks for replying. Lisa B.

I'm looking for Information about Ina Lenard or any of her children. They lived In Kansas City, on Garfield St. in the early 1960's and in Butler, Missouri in the late 1960's. They are related to my father, but because Ina married a Lenard I have no idea what her family name was. My guess is that she was born in the 1920's in the Jackson Co., Johnson Co., Cass Co. area of Missouri.

My elderly aunt (about 90) indicates that Lenard is a Scottish version of the English Leonard. This information would have been passed to her from her parents who I believe were of Scottish decent. Our family can be traced back to Tennessee during the Civil War.

Leaster, when does an individual know when to change spelling. We just found information on my husband's maternal side of a Grandmother that came to Kansas late 1890 to take two orphan children (My husband's maternal grandmother) Though she had married three times we did just last month find a death certificate for Nancy L. and maiden name in 1921 was written Lenard. She was born Jan 1847 in VA , but was married to a Preston during civil war 1862. Was in TN and married a Fitch in 1868 Sullivan Co. TN and then was married in 1898 Leavenworth Kansas. In order to find her parents (beyond guessing) would you suggest we look at Leonard or stick to Lenard? Thank you Appreciate your suggestions. Charlotte in Kansas

We live in the center of California and suspect that my father was also born in Zaklikow.
