We have gone back to The timeof Captain Jacob Simons DeRyck who was the a welthy corn merchant of Amsterdam Holland who was the son of Melchoir de Ryck. His Father, Jacob was the father of Abraham de ryck who imigrated to the United States in 1638. He rec'd an allotment of land from Governor Kieft.for which he afterwards took out a patent, dated August 8,1640. He died in 1689, leaving his farm by will to his son Abraham. He married Gertie, daughter of Hendrick Hermansen, and several children. It seems our branch of the Lent Family starts with the oldest child:
Ryck Abraahamson born in 1637. Born in New Amsterdam and was christened in the Old Dutch Chursh in the fort, now the battery and adopted the name "Van Lent". He married (Tryntje Catrina Syboutsen. They becameearly members of the Dutdh Shurch(Sleep Hollow) at Tarrytown N.Y.
Was wondering if you have a copy of the old "Lent Book" dated 1638 - 1903 by Nelson Burton Lent in Newburgh N.Y.
For my entire life I lived on part of the original patent in Peekskill. Until five years ago when I retired to Fl.
Where do you live and how are we related?
Would be interesting to see what you have found.
I have friends by the name of Rushforth living in our village who are also related by way of the Stoney Point Lents. Quite a small world after all. I am sure there were inter marriages somewhere along the line.
