NICHOLS, Iowa - Kenneth George Lenz, 72, of Nichols, died Friday, Sept. 8, 2000, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City after an extended illness.

Services will be at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home in Lone Tree. The Rev. Ann Rouse of the United Presbyterian Church, Lone Tree, will officiate. Pallbearers will be Gary Schmitt, Dave Keeler, Kenny Forbes, Gary Feldman, Lyle Jenks, Dennis Schuessler, Stanley Feldman, Bob Viner and Mr. Lenz's six grandsons: Chad, Matt, Jesse, Dustin and Travis Lenz and Danny Husmann. Burial will take place at the Lone Tree Cemetery.

A memorial has been established at the St. Jude's Children's Hospital or Camp Courageous.

Mr. Lenz was born on July 2, 1928, in Lone Tree, the son of George and Laura (Feldman) Lenz. He married Marjorie A. Keeler on Jan. 5, 1951, in Lone Tree.

He was a lifelong resident in the Nichols and Lone Tree area. He farmed in the Nichols area, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of the American Legion and the National Farmers Organization, in which he served as the Muscatine County president.

He was an U.S. Army veteran and loved hunting, fishing and all sports, especially the Cubs.

He is survived by his wife; two sons, Gary Lenz and his wife, Sue, of Nichols and Larry Lenz and his wife, Karen, of Lone Tree; two daughters, Laurie Lenz of Lone Tree and Pamela Husmann and her husband, Bryan, of Center Junction; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Alice Wade of Coralville and Mary Wieland and her husband, Kenneth, of Riverside; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, DeAnna.
