So we're distant relatives - cool. Any info would be great. I have some information but haven't had a a lot of luck finding anything prior to Levi LaQuier b.1847. Francis Dain LaQuier is my grandfather. My email address is gillooly@bellsouth.net. He married Lucy Jane Brislan 4 June 1903 in Gouverneur, St. Lawrence Co., NY. She was born 15 April 1882 in Merrickville, Ontario, Canada, the daughter of Augustus Brislan and Anna LaFluer.

Henry and Lucy had nine children:

+	3.	i	Glenn Bishop LaQuier was born 6 April 1905 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	4.	ii	Bernita Mary LaQuier was born 20 February 1906 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	5.	iii	Winifred Ann LaQuier was born 16 July 1908 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	6.	iv	Bernadette Lucy LaQuier was born 11 January 1911 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	7.	v	Florence Irene LaQuier was born 4 February 1914 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	8.	vi	Francis Dain LaQuier was born 17 May 1916 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	9.	iv	Henry Lester LaQuier was born 19 July 1918 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	10.	v	Dorothy Evelyn LaQuier was born 27 September 1920 in Gouverneur, NY.
+	11.	vi	Freida Ruth LaQuier was born 29 August 1924 in Gouverneur, NY.

Hi Jody,
I just found your post and was interested in seeing how your search had progressed over the last 7 years. My connection to the LaQuier family is through Lucy Jane Brislan, who was my great uncle's daughter. I'd love to share information on the Brislan Laquier connection. Thank you.

I am getting back to ancestry after a lay off of several years. I just saw your posting of headstone pics. My great-grandparents were William Sherman & Martha Cable. He is buried in Oklahoma and we've been to his grave. I've been told by cousins that she died back east and is buried there. I saw Martha Alice Cable listed and wondered if it might be her. My Martha was born 1-26-1866 and died 7-17-1899. They had a daughter named Mary Alice. My lineage from Casper & Elizabeth is thru Joseph-Jacob-William Sherman-Roby Claborn-Nevyle.

Vina LEGUIRE in Hancock MI

Hi Everyone,
I'm looking for info on relatives and ancestors of the LEGUIRE (spelled LEQUIER these days) family.

I have a 1910 censur record for Hanock, Houghton County, MI showing the head of household as Vina LEGUIRE, and his/her children as Alma, Joseph (Armi), Hilda, Henry, Irene. Living descendants of Henry have verified that this is their branch of the LEQUIER family.

They also report that the mother of those children was Alvina or Albina LAMPHREY. I strongly suspect that the parents of the family are Fred LIQUIA and Alvina LAMPREY, married 1899 in Champion, Marquette County, MI, but I don't have definite proof yet.

All of this research is complicated by another Fred LEQUIER/Alvina LAMPHREY marriage a generation later, in the same area! There's apparently no immediate connection between the two families, though - they're definitely not the same.

Anyone out there run across this family under the name LEGUIRE, LEQUIER, LEQUIRE, L'ECUYER, etc, etc?

Thanks to all for taking the time to read this,
Ron Niquette

Hi,
I should have added that the family name used by Henry's daughters is LEQUIER. They verified that the LEGUIRE family I found in the 1910 census is theirs. I'm sure you already know how the spellings of this name seem to change on a record-by-record basis!

PS: I'm also looking at L'Ecuyer, too. I think that's probably the original spelling for this name.

Take care,
Ron Niquette

If you're still there, I'm working on the same lineage. I found a 1910 census record that shows the family with the head of household named "Vina" Leguire. The children are Alma, Hilda, Joseph (Armi), Irene, and Henry.

I've been doing this research for the daughters of Henry, who gave me the same list of siblings you posted in your message here. They also report that the mother of Alma, Joseph, Irene, Hilda, and Henry was Albina (or Alvina) Lamphrey.

I haven't found the other parent yet but suspect that it is Fred "Liquia", who married Alvina Lamprey in 1899 in Champion, Marquette Co, MI.

I have other details on this family if you're interested. At the moment I'm waiting for obituary search results for all siblings from the Detroit Public Library, and I've just obtained contact info for the County Clerk in Champion.

I just started doing this research a few months ago and so do not have a lot to report. If you answer this posting, I'll be sure to keep you informed.

Take care,
Ron Niquette

Hi.
I have done more research, and from the info i've collected I think that Edgar might have been a misspelling. I think Edgar was actually William Edwin Lequire, who went by the name of Edwin.
William Edwin was born approx. 1886 in NC: the son of James M Lequire(b.1859,NC) and Fannie L.(b.1859,NC).

Do you think you could check your data base for the parents of James M Lequire, and any info on his son William Edwin Lequire?

Thankyou so much if you can.
Best Regards,
Jen Coole-Enholm

Hi everyone,
I am looking to see if anyone has any information on the following Lequire's who I believe are the children of Minor Lequire and Arena Womack according to the following census reports:
1860 NC Macon Co. census, Franklin PO> Lists Arlena Lequire, age 35, with the following children: Eliza J. Lequire age 18, Nancy F. Lequire (my ggggrandmother) age 16, Joseph A. Lequire age 14, Mira A.C. Lequire age 12, Martha E. Lequire age 8, and Mary A. Lequire age 7.

1870 NC Jackson Co. Census, Deep Creek Twp. Lists Arena age 54, with Nancy, Miry, and Mary living with her, and with a child Celia F. Lequire age 1 month. Arena was living next to her father-in-law, Joseph Lequire at this time. Does anyone know where these Lequires ended up, who they married etc.? Also, does anyone know who Celia M. Lequire belonged to? I would appreciate any information, and would be willing to share.
Thanks,
Marti

Surname origins in France?

Does anyone know where in France the Lequire surname is originated or even located? I am just mostly curious as the information that I have seen stated that our NC and Eastern Tennessee progenitor, John Lequire and his father also John came from France. I was curious to know if maybe someone knew what ship, or if there was any kind of a ship's log that might have from where in France they came from. I know that any kind of a ship's log from the 1700's is not very common. I am mainly just curious about the surname, and possibly, it's meaning as well.
Thanks,
Marti

My records show that Levi LaQuier (b. Mar 1847) had a brother, Ambrose James LaQuier (b. Feb 1851), in French Canada like his brother.

Ambrose married Matilda Oan Bero (b. May 1855) in 1873 and had five children:

i. Urbau LaQuier (b. Jun 1874)
ii. Claude Daily LaQuier (b. 4 Feb 1885)
iii. Albertine "Bertha" Maria LaQuier (b. 2 Dec 1888)
iv. Ina LaQuier (b. 21 Feb 1891)
v. Della LaQuier (b. Jul 1892)

Bertha LaQuier (2 Dec 1888 - 23 Jul 1973) married Harvey James Hilton Rima (7 Aug 1889 - 10 Dec 1969) in 1909. Harvey and Bertha had eight children.

The second-born child was Martha Matilda Rima (b. 28 May 1911), who was my great-grandmother. Martha (known to us as "Grandma Reeves in the Little Red House" for her small red home on Garden City Drive in Mattydale, New York) married Floyd Austin Reeves (21 Jan 1904 - April 1972) and had three children.

The oldest was Austin Franklin Reeves (25 Apr 1930 - 4 Dec 1987).

The youngest was Roger Ruel Reeves (23 Nov 1935 - Living).

The middle child was my grandfather, Paul Sheldon Reeves, Sr., born 21 Feb 1933, and who passed away early this morning in Largo, Florida.

I am pleased to provide any information that I can.

Jeanne, my great-grandmother, Margaret Lequire, was the daughter of Joseph LeQuire. While a very interesting family, I have found it a difficult one to research.

I have a John M. LeQuire, born about 1877, without a spouse, in my data base. If this birth year of 1877 is close, your John is probably a second cousin to my dad.

You may prefer to contact me at mjriddle@main.nc.us.
