I have a Leray titled "Paris Arc de Triomphe." It looks to be signed in pencil. It was my great-grandmother's from Denver I think. It's a lovely print, but it would be nice to know if it's worth anything.

My mother bought a Leray limited edition at a garage sale. Apparantly the one seller did not want to part with the picture and the other did. We have had that picture hanging in our hallway for years. Have no idea if there is a value or history of it, but this Saturday my mother is taking it to the antique roadshow. We will find out then, I am looking forward to the history of the picture. Maybe you have received some information, after all these years.

Bonjour,

Merci.

Charlie LERAY who (as the legend says) was a montee and his brother Rene, hunter, were in France, in LOCHES in 1939 /40.

It seems they came from Fort Frances / Ontario.

My father has found some pictures of these guys.

If you are a descendant, we will be pleased to share these pictures.

Thanks .

while i find my background very interesting it`s the reality of the present i`m having trouble with. how will my actions today be viewed by my realitives two hundred years from now. my little girl is two and a half years old now, does`t know who her grandparents on the leray side are and i only live thirty minutes away, WOW! the people i`m try to find are long gone but my mother and father are still here, both with broken hearts and wonder how nice it would be to hold my little girl for the first time. and maybe my little girl would love to be held! the past is interesting, the names, the information, the adresses, the towns in france and germany where my people came from yes! alot of history could have been learned about the leray family from a little house on st. bernard st. in thibodaux la. from a man named Ritney Le Ray. he was full of history, he`s gone now and i miss him terribly sc---t. i asked him one day about our realitves that where back in the old country, if i may quote Mr. Ritney Le Ray`s exact reply: Boy if they didn`t have the guts to come to this country on a boat F--k em! end of quote.

I have recently come across a fairly old
picture in my basement. Wood Frame, sticker
on back that says "Genuine Colored French
Etchings". The picture looks like a small
cobblestone Street setting with 3
people standing on one side and a couple
walking up the other side.It appears to
be set in France. The picture itself
is approx. 8 X 10 inches. The name signed on the
bottom right corner is Leray and it's
underlined. I have looked all over the
internet for the name and this is the only
sight I've come up with. If you have any
information please let me know. Thank you.

Hi. I have been doing research and have found some information about LeRay. There was a french artist named Louis LeRay who painted in the end of the 19th, early 20th century. He painted genre paintings (typically set in Europe) and still life florals (which is what I have). I don't know if this is the same painter as yours or not, but I do know that Louis LeRay signed his name as I've typed it - not with a lowercase r. His works are highly sought after but I've found that most galleries are completely unfamiliar with him, as is Sotheby's. People who collect his art are from all over the world, but my source (gallery owner) tells me that the public is generally not familiar with him.

Hope that is helpful! If you want me to put you in touch with this gallery owner so he can advise you, please e-mail me.
I don't remember much about her, except that in 92 or so when I bought it, she appeared to be about 40. She was heavy-set and definately Southern. That's about all I can remember. Seems like she had a permanent spot in the indoor flea market we were in.

So do you think this artist could have been a relative? I know Wilmington was at one time a huge import center so I speculate that this late 18th-early 19th century painting was either brought here from France, or a Frenchman who lived locally painted it.

Also, I am trying to locate my great great grandfather LeRay. He was married to Rose or Rosa Kennedy. There oldest son was Frank J. LeRay married to Annie Horne (my great grandparents). It is as if Rose and I would assume Frank Senior never existed. Any leads would be helpful.

I too own a painting by an artist named Le Ray. It is signed, but not underlined. It's very old, in a circular gilded frame, with black dots outlining the still life of tulips. I bought it in Wilmington, NC from a woman who said it had always been in her grandmother's attic. She thought the signature was "Leroy". It's clearly Le Ray with a space between Le and Ray. Wonder if it's the same artist?
