From Loeser to Lesser

I am looking for information about the Loesers from Germany. They came to America sometime in the 1800s and lived in either New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut. This is when we changed our name to Lesser. Anyone have any info about this?

My great grandfather Samuel Kramer who came here was born Shmuel Krell. In the U.S. he went by Samuel Krell, then changed his name to Samuel Kramer, so I'd only be looking for his descendants here in the U.S.

I'd be excited to learn more about the Krell family here and in Europe.

As for the Lessers, I'm still looking for all I can about Morris Lewis Lesser and Rebecca Pargament Lesser.

I'm looking for any information on Morris Lesser (this is my great great great grandfather) who was born about 1832 in Germany. He had a wife named Dora (last name unknown) who was born about 1834 in Germany.

They had 5 children:
Bertha Lesser - born about 1858 in New York
Sarah Lesser - born about 1860 in New York
Michael Lesser (this is my great great grandfather) - born about 1863 in New York
Esther Lesser - born about 1866 in New York
Rebecca Lesser - born about 1869 in New York

My father was Theodore Lesser from The Bronx, NYC, his uncle was named Sol Lesser. They originally camed from Ukrain. My father was born in 1914 so I don't know if we're talking about the same Sol Lesser?

Better late than never. I do not know if anyone is still looking at this forum but here goes. My name is Sue Ellen Lesser Meza, daughter of William and Jane Lesser. I was born in New Jerdey on August 29, 1953. I am married and divorced (in that order). I have a daughter, Jane Meza, 24, a son, Brian Meza, 26 and another daughter Jessica Meza-Bolton, 22. Brian has 3 children. Bradley, age 4, Zachary, age 2 1/2, and Landon, 1. Jane has a 5 year old daughter Kaylene and a 2 year old son named Cameron. Jessica has a son, Adam, almost 3. My great-grandfather MORRIS LESSER had a brother ELY LESSER, and, I believe, another brother. Does your wife's grandfather, or any of his children remember any other LESSERs?

My family lived in Boston and New York City (mostly The Bronx).

Can you tell me how far you go back?

My Great Grandfather was MORRIS LESSER, who had an older brother ELY LESSER. (ELY had children ROSE LESSER, LENA LESSER, and HARRY lesser.)

MORRIS had 8 children (MILDRED, DAVID, ARTHUR, EDWARD, JACK, HELEN, ESTHER, HAROLD).

I am a Lesser born in Long Island New York. My father was born and raised there, Charlie Lesser. My Grandfathe Harold Lesser was married to Margret Lesser. My Grandfather passed away in 2004 but my grandmother still onwns the house in Long Island New York that they have lived in for years when my father was little boy (he is 52, now). My grandparents have land still in upstate NY. My uncles and aunt still live in NY and My uncle Harry Lesser and his son Raymond Lesser have bought land within the last several yrs in upstate NY. There maybe a conection. I can ask my aunt the names of my grandfathers sisters to see if one of them is the lady you are looking for. I hope this helps some.

I am looking for an relatives of Johannes J. Lesser born 12 April 1876 in Frank Russia as far as I have been able to find. He was married to Katherine Elizabeth Kissler and immigrated to the United States about 1906. Their children were Anna Maria, Lydia, John, and Paulina. If anyone has information please let me know. John T. Lesser, a resident of Loveland since 1987, died Monday, Oct. 11, 2004.
He was born Oct. 10, 1915, to Henry S. and Catherine E. Schissler Lesser in Walla Walla, Wash. A former resident of Denver, John was a tire builder for Gates Rubber Co. for 37 years before retiring in 1974.
He was a member of Church of Hope Lutheran Church and loved gardening, woodworking and fishing.
Preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, John is survived by his wife, Nellie Lesser; son, Roger T. Lesser and wife, Judy of Denver; stepson, Ray Homeburg and wife, Chris of Westminster; stepdaughters, Mary Ann Greth and husband, Richard of Peoria, Ariz., Janet Homeburg of Thornton; brother, Sam Lesser of Loveland; sisters, Helen Heimbegner of Greeley, and Elizabeth Teal of Johnstown; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Service 10:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 15, 2004, at Church of Hope Lutheran Church.

Interment in Foothills Garden of Memory, Longmont.

Ricky Dean Lesser, 55, of Fort Collins passed away quietly on Jan. 27, 2005. He was at home surrounded by his family. He had battled cancer for three months.
Ricky was a gentle spirit and was an inspiration to those around him. After being diagnosed with cancer, he awoke every morning to see the sun rise and thanked God for giving him one more day. He had dedicated his life to Christ earlier.
He was employed by Eastman Kodak for 311/2 years.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman and ecologist. He loved to hunt, fish, repair roads, chop wood and work on his beloved cabin. Many of his grandchildren would say, “Grandpa Ricky helped me catch my first fish.”
He is survived by his wife of eight years, Yvonne Lesser; daughters Shari Lesser, Le Anne Rizo and Tara Lesser; stepson Richard Elliott; and stepdaughter Sherri Rodriguez. He had a brother, Bob Hafelfinger, and two sisters, Jan Stephens and her husband, Dean, and Judy Crabb and her husband, Dale. Rick had 13 grandchildren and many friends and relatives who will miss him.
Rick’s remains will be cremated and spread near his cabin in the spring. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Abyssinian Christian Church, 516 Crestmore Place, Fort Collins.

I'm trying to hook up with decendants of Mamie and al Lesser who married in NYC around1905ish. Had kids, Gertrude, Edna, and Sidney. Mamie was maiden name Brodie. She was sister of my maternal grandmother Eva Brodie. Trying to hook up with Brodies as Eva died in pandemic of 1918 and her husband remarried. Can you help? Is there a connection?

I have an Anna Margaret Stroh, Whose Father is Henry Stroh and Katherine Ginther. I have her dob. as 10/25/1864 in Frank, Russia, but nothing else regarding spouse or death. I am assuming she died in Nebraska or Northern Colorado, as that is where I have her parents and sisters death listed. Is this the same person you have?

I have a marriage record from Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa for John A. Yager married Rosella Dennis with the permission of her mother Susan E. Lesser (being she was just 17) To be married June 14, 1876 at the house of Mrs. Elizabeth Lesser. I found a Susan Lesser in the 1880 census of Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa living alone. I assume she must have been married to somebody with the last name of Dennis when she had Rosella. I found no record of any other Lesser in Burlington.
Susan was born about 1831 in Pennsylvania and Rosella was born about 1859 in either Ohio or Virginia per the census records of her children she died in 1897.

Katharina Lesser--married Otto Bommersein, and
they settled in central North Dakota. We
have Lesser relatives in Saskatchewan, B.C. and
Alberta, plus in Washington (that I know of).
Am currently researching in Russia, and hope
to get back into Germany. I also believe
all the Lessers from Frank are related.

also working through the American Historical Society of Germans from
Russia and the Germans from Russia Heritage

I have a Harry Lesser, son of Ely Lesser.

Children of Ely are;
Rose age 21 dressmaker.
Lena age 17 dressmaker.
Harry 15 no job.

They are listed like this on the 1910 census for Boston, Soffolk Co., Massachusetts. They were living with Ely's brother Morris.

Morris and his family did move to Bronx, NY and can be found on the 1920 census there.
