I've just checked the 1891 and 1901 census. Alice was still living with her parents aged 14 and 25 and in both census returns, at 4 Coldbath Square, Clerkenwell and she is shown as a 'Relief Stamper' - somebody who made relief stamps in the printing trade.

I never had any contact with Annie Lethbridge.

No - I do not know if she was a dancer.

What is your theory?

The only other info I have is that her grandfather, also Francis John Lethbridge, born in Plymouth in 1807, committed suicide by hanging himself in Bakers Row, Clerkenwell in 1863, in the same street where Alice's father lived at that time.

Alices father had at least two children die in infancy and his first wife died in a lunatic asylum when she was just 29, also in 1863, so there was a lot of tragedy in her father's life.

Is your Alice definitely the dancer though, and do you know what happened to her in later life? I only ask because I have a theory which I cannot seem to corroborate (that is not to say there is anything that disagrees either).

Goodness - a response to a message in 2005!!!

Yes I am still researching my family tree. My main tree is on Genes Reunited and I can trace my ethbridges back to Plymouth in 1807, but I have been stuck on getting any further back for three years now.

Alice Lethbridge was the half sister of my great grandfather, Joseph Henry Lethbridge. She was born in Clerkenwell in 1875.

Her parents were Francis John Lethbridge (1834-1908) in Lambeth (Surrey in those days)and Emma Powell (1839-?)from Holborn (Middlesex in those days).

My younger daughter is also called Alice Lethbridge. We named her before discovering that there had been an earlier Alice in the family.

Can anyone help? I have been unable to locate my GGrandfather before the 1901 census. He was born in Brixton and not to be confused with WH Lethbridge born in DEvon. His father on his marriage cert states Frank NOT Francis. He was married to Lizzie Nee Bacon ( i have a copy of my Grandfathers birth cert which states Lizzies maiden name as Bacon. I assume the census records have been transferred incorrectly. Does anyone have any tips on what i can do now? Thank you.

Eliza Lethbridge was my mother,her sister Edna I belive is still living in Crown Point NY. Her sister Mildred just passed away in July of 2009

I am a descendent of a Lethbridge and I'm hoping to get a lead on my family.

My Lethbridge ancestor is Florence 'Flora' Sophia Lethbridge who married J. Wilfred Berg. Both died in New York and are both buried in the Corinth Rural Cemetery, Corinth, New York.

I do have their obituaries and a 1900 Census from Chittenden, Rutland County, Vermont.

From that census:

Lethbridge, John - Born May 1852 Vermont, age 48
Lethbridge, Josephine - Born Oct 1855 Vermont, age 44

Their children:

Elmyra S - Daughter, Born July 1888 Vermont, age 11
Flora S - Daughter, Born Aug 1890 Vermont, age 9
* My Ancestor
Edwin F - Son, Born Aug 1892 Vermont, age 7
Nathan J - Son, Born July 1896 Vermont, age 3
Charlotte - Daughter, Born Feb 1898 Vermont, age 1

Hi Wilfred.

The first on my Lethdridge tree is James born 1776 he married rebekah Langworthy 14 nov 1802 in Moreton Hampstead,Devon.

As far as I know they had 3 children Mary 1803, Andrew 1805 and William 1808, all born in Lustleigh, Devon.

My husbands line comes down from William. Afraid I know very little about the others.

I am a direct descendant of William's brother Andrew who came to Newfoundland in 1834. I have information on most of the families since 1834 on this side of the Atlantic. Would appreciate any details reagarding Andrew's ancestors you could provide from that side. I have noted a few additional names that do not seem to be decendant of Andrew - possible brother of uncles.
One in particular was Andrew Lethbridge born in England 1788 and died in Bonavista in 1884. Another was a tin smith Thomas who lived around this time in Ship Cove Newfoundland. Look forward to hearing from you.

I am doing a one name search on all '(K)CARKEET/K & CARGEEG/E & +175 Variations'.

MIne start with John Carkett the Mariner, who's last testament is dated 1638 in Plymouth, but have lineages going back to 1500s and records back to late 1300s.

I have an Alice L. Lethbridge in my family tree born in 1875 in Clerkenwell, London (Middlesex in those days). She was my Great Aunt. Apparently she married a man called ?Bush and had 3 girls and 1 boy.

It's a long shot, but my great great grandfather, Francis John Lethbridge was born in Lambeth in 1834. His father was also called Francis but I do not know where he was born. Every generation after Francis lived close to the Thames in London (or Surrey/Middlesex as it was in the 1800s)

Am trying to find info on the Lethbridges laterly from Bovey Tracey Devon. Husbands great grandmother was Lucy Lethbridge 1870 who married Edward Call. Her father was Andrew 1844 who married Sarah Rich. Andrews parents were William 1808 Bovey/Lustleigh and Mary Coyish 1808 from Plymouth. Williams parents were James and Rebekah Langworthy who married 1802 in Moreton Hampstead.

Also know williams brother Andrew 1805 went to Newfoundland in 1834 and died there in 1902.

Ring any bells with anyone? Any info would be appreciated.

Did Elizabeth's parents reside in Washington County, NY? I am trying to find information on her sister Edna. In the 1930 census it lists Charles, Mabel, Leo, Fred, Henry, Mildred, FLorence and Edna. However, the 1920 census for the same family in the same location listed Charles, Mabel, Daniel C., Elizabeth M., George C. in addition to Leo, Fred, Henry and Mildred. Ticonderoga — Helen M. (Peterson) Lethbridge, 78, of Grace Avenue, passed away Monday, Nov. 25, 2002, at the Fletcher Allen Health Care Center of Burlington, VT.

She was born in Dresden, Oct. 23, 1924, the daughter of the late Nelson and Ellen P. (Lillie) Peterson.

Mrs. Lethbridge was a resident of Ticonderoga for most of her life. She was a wonderful cook and baker and especially enjoyed cooking for her family and many friends.

Her husband, Leo C. Lethbridge predeceased her in 1977.

Survivors include two sons, Nelson (Chip) Lethbridge and his wife, Nancy of Ticonderoga and James L. Lethbridge and his wife, Geraldine of Rockville Center, Long Island; two brothers, Robert Peterson and his wife, Leslie of Putnam Station and John Peterson and his wife, Anne of Ticonderoga; one sister, Pearl Chadwick and her husband, Glen of Putnam Station; five grandchildren, Sara Lethbridge, Mickey Lethbridge, Christian Lethbridge, Caroline Lethbridge, and Gregory Lethbridge; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Wilcox & Regan Funeral Home, 11 Algonkin St., Ticonderoga. A funeral service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. The Rev. Mr. Elliott A. Shaw of St. Mary's Catholic Church of Ticonderoga, will officiate.

Have definately got a Lethbridge line from Ermington, without looking at my records I'm not sure about Newton Ferrers - Newton Abbot I know but thats to the East a bit. My line also lived in Buckland Monochorum which i think is quite close to Ferrers but will have to have a look at map. I'm a bit snowed under at work at the mo but give me a couple of weeks and I'll get back to you. If you are interested in one particular person or family then email me direct on s.tomkins@tiscali.co.uk and I'll give you a yes or no a bit sooner. My Lethbridge line goes back to 1500's so have quite a few. I would give you some sort of printout but my comp got glitchy and I need to re-input all my peeps again so I am having to refer to my written notes for a while. Hope I can help in someway.

Hello. I am researching the Lethbridges in my family. I live in Ontario and this branch of the family moved here. at the top of my tree is William and Mary Lethbridge. They emigrated from England to Ontario, Canada with their four sons, James, Thomas, John and Richard. All of the sons married and had more children. They were all born in England. John b. 1818, Thomas b. 1833, Richard b. 1827 and James b. 1829. Does anyone include these people in their research? I would especially like to find out where in England they came from, and who their parents are. Any help would be appreciated.

John Thomas Lethbridge

I am also trying to trace the origins of a John Thomas Lethbridge. So far I know he was an architect responsible for Southernhay baths in Exeter and some housing in the 1820's -1830's. He also joined the Institute of Civil Engineers in 1820. Does anyone know anything more about him? Thanks

Hi.

I am trying to trace Alice Lethbridge who was a Skirt Dancer in the 1900's. I wopuld like to find out her birth place and what became of her once she stopped dancing.

My reason for the interest is we share the same surname and initial and having seen photos of her we are very alike. There is a possibility she could be my Great Great Aunt!

My Lethbridge clan, orginate from Exeter and Plymouth as well.
