Hi, My name is James Lalonde. My grandfather was a son of zenobie lippe and joseph durand. I know some of my grandfather's half brothers sons - Angèle's grandchildren- perhaps they could help you. I could give you their names if you wish. They run a plumbing company in Montreal called Plomberie Bertrand Durand. Bertrand's father was Herve and his grandmother was Angèle, his son Daniel Durand runs the company now.

Good Luck 514 776 7299 maji@quixnet.net

Rev. Angelo Bertrand LeVasseur 1953-2009

Rev. Angelo Bertrand LeVasseur 1953-2009
MEXICO, Maine - The Rev. Angelo Bertrand LeVasseur, 56, Catholic priest of the Diocese of Portland, died Sunday, May 31, 2009, at Hospice House, Auburn. Father Angelo was born Jan. 14, 1953, son of Irene and Lewis LeVasseur, in Grand Isle, where he was raised. Father Angelo attended Van Buren District High School and the University of Maine - Fort Kent, where he studied English, and later taught in Van Buren and Mars Hill school districts. He studied philosophy and theology at St. Mary's Seminary & University, Baltimore, where he received a master of divinity. While at St. Mary's, Angelo ministered to the sick and dying at Johns Hopkins University Hospital. While a seminarian, Father Angelo was deacon at St. Theresa of the Infant Jesus Parish, Mexico, Maine. Father Angelo also studied at Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. On July 31, 1983, Father Angelo was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Portland at St. Gerard Church of Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Parish, Grand Isle, by the Most Rev. Edward C. O'Leary. His first assignment was serving as parochial vicar at St. Andre's Parish, Biddeford. He then became a chaplain at Bowdoin College, Brunswick, and Bates College, Lewiston, for several years, while doing parish ministry at St. Charles Borromeo Church, Brunswick, and St. Katherine Drexel Church, South Harpswell, Bailey's Island. While at Bowdoin, Angelo was instrumental in bringing students to Appalachia to help the poor in Kentucky. Father Angelo then became pastor of St. Luce Catholic Church, one of the oldest churches in the St. John Valley region and in the state of Maine, and director of the Christian Life Center, Frenchville. His next assignment was at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church, Sabattus, and at St. Francis Mission, Greene. He was then assigned to what is now known as Holy Savior Parish, serving the communities of Rumford, Mexico, Dixfield, Bethel and Roxbury Pond. He was responsible for St. John's School of the Parish of the Holy Savior. Father Angelo was a lover of nature having skied throughout Europe; he pursued the arts, and was a follower of Henry David Thoreau. One of his favorite quotes by Thoreau is, "I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Surviving are three brothers, Mathieu LeVasseur and wife, Patricia, of Grand Isle, Edward LeVasseur and wife, Jacqueline, of Madawaska and Joel LeVasseur of Damariscotta; a niece, Louise Papka and husband, Mark; and three nephews, Mario LeVasseur and wife, Inna, Michael LeVasseur and Wayne LeVasseur and wife, Monique. Father Angelo was predeceased by his mother and father, Irene and Lewis, and Woody. Reception of the body will be 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 3, at St. Athanasius & St. John Church of Holy Savior Parish, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford, with Father Lionel Chouinard, as presider and homilist, with a vigil/wake afterward until 8 p.m. A wake will also be held 9-10:45 a.m. Thursday, June 4, at the church and a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, June 4, with the Most Rev. Richard J. Malone, as principal celebrant and Father Robert Vaillancourt, as homilist. A Mass of Christian burial will also be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday, June 5, at St. Gerard Church of Notre Dame du Mont Carmel Parish, Grand Isle, with Father Jean-Paul Labrie, as principal celebrant and homilist. Interment will be in the family plot at St. Gerard's Cemetery, Grand Isle. In memory of Father Angelo donations may be made to Hospice House of Androscoggin Home Care & Hospice, 236 Stetson Road, Auburn, ME 04210 or Holy Savior Columbarium Fund, 126 Maine Ave., Rumford, ME 04276. Relatives and friends may pay tribute to Father Angelo at www.mem.com. Arrangements are under the care of S.G. Thibault Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford. www.dignitymemorial.com

Karen!!!

Geez, I was surprised to get a response from YOU! Thanks for the info! I do remember getting a listing of Merciers, I think on this website from Grandpa Mercier's military records, and, there were a few Merciers listed, however, no, I don't know of any brothers and sisters offhand.

This geneaology thing certainly is interesting! Thanks, very much, for the info.

I'll tell my mom about the get together for your dad. It's a good thing it's not right now, though. Money is more than a little tight right now...strangulating, actually! I'll keep you posted, also.

I'll also ask her about that name you mentioned, because I'm not familiar with it. Thanks, again!

Cherie

Hey Cherie! Just saw this. I posted a little more info but nothing much...do you know if grandpa Fred had any sisters or brothers and whether the names I posted were them? Dad also remembers getting invited to George Stratton's home in New Haven. Thinks Stratton may have been married to one of his aunts...just not sure who..

Hope all is well. Will probably be having a party next summer up in CT for Dad's 80th. Will keep you all posted.

Love to all, Karen D

Hi, in regards to Anthony Ouellette, there was a Tony Ouellette in Limestone that I picked potatos for back in the 1950's. I do have info on where one of his sons live. I was born in 1942 and his oldest boy was about three years older than me so the timeline would be about right. Email me if you think this could be of help to you.
Yes, Aunt Vivian! I recall visiting regularly. Many years ago now.

I have not been to Shreveport in quite awhile but, I have many fond memories of the house at 1034 Pierremont. It always seemed like such a big home in my childhood. I remember my last visit. It seemed small and unremarkable. Except for that steep driveway.

I have lived in the Houston area since 1974 and have twenty-one years with Bayer Corporation behind me now. I work in Human Resources at the company's Baytown chemical manufacturing site. Glyn, my mother, lives near by and is doing well. You may have heard that Paula, her sister, died recently.

I never had children. I have, however, been blessed with the chance to help raise a few. I even thought I was going to adopt a "step" grandchild. Would'nt that be history repeating itself?

I hope this found you well and in good cheer. I'm sure I'll check back in sometime in the future.

Kind Regards,
z

A work colleague has asked me how to trace a Canadian named Joseph Robert LEVASEUR or LEVASSEUR (not sure about spelling) who was over here in Nottinghamshire, England with the Canadian Air Force in the 1950s. He is thought to have come from Montreal, and would now be in his late-70s or early-80s. Of course, we don't know if he is still alive after all these years. Can anyone help please?

To May
The Clariste Plouffe's sister was my wife's grandmother on her mother's side. The name you gave does not show in the family records, is there another translation. So you can see that we do have a substantial collection of data and photos on this family. Yes we do have the death record on Clariste also her parents. You have Clariste & John marraige date so you must know the parents names. I am not fishing but trying to determine if we are on the same track.
send reply to patennis@charter.net

Pat,

Thank you for the reply. I am indirectly related through the Plouffe line. Clarice was the sister of Theotiste Plouffe, my direct line. I would be interested in Clarice's info, such as her marriage certificate and if you have her death date and children. In your research, did you come across her family and/or photos of Plouffe's?

Any help is appreciated. Take care,
May

What is your area of interest, on the Ploof side or the Levasseur side.
My wife's grandfather on her mother's side was a brother to John (Jean) Levasseur. Yes we have been finding more on the movements and migrations all the time. Yesterday we visited Bay County Courthouse Vital Records to check on the death records. This message board has many relations to John & Clarice posted. We have marriage certificate for John & Clarice, Baptismal records, census 1881 Canada, census in US. Most of the family moved to auto plants in Detroit. Many photos of the family.
Looking forward to hearing from you

You mention my grandfather, Zeb G. LeVasseur, a custom home builder in Shreveport. He had three brothers - Elmo, Top and AJ. A fourth brother, Napoleon, died as a child I believe. Zeb had three sisters, Cleo, Carrie and Sadie. Zeb also had two daughters, Glyn and Paula. I am Glyn's oldest son.

Regards,

Zeb G. LeVasseur, Jr.

Zeb Le Vasseur had another sister, Vivian. Her married name was Barnes, and she was the oldest of the girls. She was my grandmother. Okay, I just saw your signature. I think you, I and more cousins played kickball at least once, in the back yard on Pierrmont. I still drive by that house sometimes.

I still remember Uncle Zeb, sitting in his easy chair, reading the paper. And I remember Aunt Peggy, serving fish to us kids. And--I remember you and your sister. I looked for your email here but can't find it.

Very nice to hear from you...

Lenora
