Surnames: LEVY, POSMONTIER
As posted previously, I want to learn my Levy ancestry prior to my great grandfather known as Asher Levy. He arrived New York City 1873 or 1874 from Poland (we believe), married Augusta Lemke (Lempke) 1875 of Germany.
They had children Louis (my grandfather), Ray (female), Ben, Robert, Rose, David, and Charles. As far as I know, all but Charles were born while family lived in Paterson, NJ and then they moved to Philadelphia in late 1880s.
Robert later changed his name to Robert Simcha Posmontier, which makes us believe that original family name was a variant. There are many variant spellings in the JRI-Poland database (on Jewishgen.org) and in the U.S.
