Levy/Posmontier

As posted previously, I want to learn my Levy ancestry prior to my great grandfather known as Asher LEVY. He arrived New York City 1873 or 1874 from Poland (we believe), married Augusta Lemke (Lempke) 1875 of Germany.

They had children Louis (my grandfather), Ray (female), Ben, Robert, Rose, David, and Charles. As far as I know, all but Charles were born while family lived in Paterson, NJ and then they moved to Philadelphia in late 1880s.

Robert later changed his name to Robert Simcha Posmontier, which makes us believe that original family name was a variant. There are many variant spellings in the JRI-Poland database (on Jewishgen.org) and in the U.S.

Thank you.
Bernie

Levy's back to late 1600s

Am 22 years old; was on internet and came across this site. In 1993 I had to do a project on my family history. I was able to trace the Levy's back to late 1600s. Most of my ancestors settled in the Annapolis Valley and South Shore of Nova Scotia, Canada. Moses Levi (now spelled Levy) helped to build New York's Trinity Church in 1711. He is the most distant ancestor that I traced. His son Nathan, born in London, England in 1704, came with Moses to New York. There is at least one Nathan Levy in every branch of every generation in my family. Moses' tombstone is inscribed in 3 languages; Hebrew, Spanish, and English.
I am just wondering if anyone could help me establish some secure dates and names. There is no rush, just curiosity.
Other helpful names include: Nathan Levi d. 1787, married Susannah Tufts (2nd wife; 1st wife died in childbirth--Sarah 1740-1771). Nathan Susannah had Gersham Levy; married Catherine Graffs. They had David (1797-1875) who married Hannah Low (1792-1887) and had another Nathan who married Maria Brown (d. 1907) and then died in 1892. Nathan Maria had Eliphalet (1865-1945). He married Annie Jodrey (1867-1936). They had Stanley (1889-1974). Stanley married Elsie Eisenhauer (1889-1974). They had my grandfather Lloyd Deward Levy (1918- ). Lloyd married Ruby Schofield (1920-1994). They had my father Richard (1947- ). He married Valerie Russell (1950- ). It is confusing but it may help!

Levys in California

My great-great grandfather was Achille Levy born in the Alsace-Lorraine area of France. He moved to Port Hueneme (now Oxnard) California to make his fortune as a farmer. He married Lucy Levy (also of France but I don't know where) who was a distant cousin of hers and thus has no maiden name. He then created the now dissolved Bank of A. Levy in Ventura County, California. If anyone knows the ancestry of these two people in France I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks

Herman born Feb 1883 was the son of Bertha born Apr 1850 and Herman don't know when he was born just that in a 1890 Philadelphia City directory, Bertha is listed as the widow of Herman. In a 1900 Census Bertha is a widow with four children and 1grandchild living at home. They are
Yoldene, Esther b. Oct 1876, Yoldene, Bessie b.Aug 1897, Levy,Joseph b. June 1878 Levy,Morris b.Oct.1880 and Herman b.Feb 1883.
In a 1910 Census Herman has married Estella and as three children Horatio,Herman,& Irene. also two boarders Juila & John Foix and an Aunt Susanna Houck.
Now Herman born in 1907 would have a son named Norman
I know they lived in Philadelphia on North palethorpe??
I need any info anyone would have it's been very hard to find information.

Fanny Levi/Levy b. 1859 (?NY or France) m. Gerson Netter 1880, d. ? Meridian MS 1920

Edward A. Schreiber, born 1858 ? in France, musician, Lived Meridian, MS, where he married Carolina KOHNER in 1881 (her second husband) & died 1898 (prob. in MS), buried Meridian Temple Beth Israel cemetery with infant children Louis, Gussie, ? Hugo. Son William Henry Schreiber (b. 1882, prob. Meridian, MS) became vaudevillian, married Caroline "Carrie" NETTER in Meridian, later raised my mother (a LATTANNER, Carrie's neice) during the 1920s-30s). Other son Frederick (b. 1885) was his partner, ended up in OK. Carrie NETTER had siblings Abe, Daniel Gerson, and Esther Lucile (my grandmother), all probably born in or near Mobile, AL 1881-1891 (Dan and Fanny were married there in 1880) but Daniel and Carrie, at least, later moved to Meridian, MS. Their parents were Gerson NETTER (probably b. 1850 Alsace Lorraine) and Fanny LEVI/LEVY (b. 1859 NY or France). Info on any of these families would be much appreciated, and I'm happy to share.
Harris Levy - Russia and England

I am looking for information on the descendants of Harris Levy/Levey. He married Annie Cohen (I think) c1876. Their children: Solomon 1876, Samuel 1878, Dora 1880, Rebecca 1884, Ada 1886, Louis 1889 and Joseph 1894. As far as I can tell all children were born in Leeds, Yorkshire. The family migrated some time after the 1901 census to Australia as I located the death of Annie and most kids. I found no death record for Harris so he may have died in England. I believe that Ada married a Hilkovits (or similar) and moved to South Africa. Any information would be great!

James Levy from Austria

James was my great grandfather. All searches to date have lead to a brick wall. I have all his papers from his Petition to his Naturalization papers. He is listed on several census' as being from Tirol Austria to Poland Austria. Some suggested he may have been born in Sankt Polten. I have been unable to check this out. I do not know what launguage James spoke besides English. HIs father's name was Domenicus. I found his application for marriage in Keyser, WV. I know everywhere he has lived since his marriage. He died in Twilight Boro, PA (outside of Charleroi, PA.) in 1933 before I was born. He was born in 1861 and came to America in 1882. I do not know what port but his grandchildren have mentioned Castle Gardens. The last time I looked there I could not find his name. He may have traveled with a Harry Levy and Frank Levy.
I am posting one last time in hopes of finding a connection with someone. Thank you.

Good morning,

I have learned so much over the last several months from reading all the postings. I am here to ask for some assistance.

I am trying to find information on Raphael LEVY and his family. Spouse -
Bertha(HILB), Children - Edward, Hannah, Isaac (went by Jack once he came to
states), Kate and Ruth.

I know they lived in HECHINGEN Germany(which I have found reference to be a part of BADEN-WURTTEMBERG) before
coming to the states and I know they ended up in Denver Colorado.

I know Jack and Hannah owned and ran a group of Fashion stores in Denver.
Victor or Lila "Dolly" Levy in New York

I am looking for any info on my great aunt "Dolly" (nee Ferguson) who married Victor Levy. They have 3 children, my second cousins, Susan, David, and Murray. I have not had any contact with them since I was about 8 years old and I'm now 27. Last I knew, they lived around the Jones Beach NY area. Aunt Dolly is the sister of my paternal grandmother who passed away before I was born. I don't have any contact with anyone else from her side of the family. I think she and my father might be the last of that side of the family. My father is an only child and he has not had any contact with his mother's sister in a long time. I really would like to reconnect and find out more about my grandma and her family. Anyone who has any info on Victor, Dolly, Susan, David, or Murray, please contact me. It would be greatly appreciated!
Erin O'Neill

I am searching for info about Isaac Levy b around 1860 in London who married a Leah Lewis(?) born around 1862 Chelsea. They had a daughter Harriett b 1884 probably Southwark, Sons Lewis b 1885, Horace Douglas 1889 and a daughters Leah b 1890, Esther 189w, Matilda 1898. All born in London.

I believe Leah Lewis' Parents to be John and Harriet Lewis also from London - Chelsea, Christchurch and St Georges Hanover Square. Harriet Levy is with them in 1891.

I would like to find Isaac Levy's marriage or marriages as it is possible that his children do not all have the same Mother.
Have searched everywhere but no luck.

Help please. My father went to town and came back and I think Mr. Miller came back. They told us that this was a bad, bad storm, but we still had no idea. I think Monday morning, I met Marion Levy and he said, "Hyman, they tell me there is a lot of people who have been hurt and they haven't got enough room for them over at the undertaking establishment. Let's go over and see it." It's about nine in the morning."
DATA: LEVY (several different) listed in 1929 Richmond, VA yearbook

DATA Message RE: The Marshallite, 1929 John Marshall High School yearbook (Richmond, VA).

This yearbook lists the members of the Senior class of 1929, faculty members, members of the Corps of Cadets, and many members of various clubs (not all). Unfortunately, it does not list the names of the members of the Junior, Sophomore or Freshmen classes (only officers listed for those classes). It includes the following name(s):

Levy, Daniel
Levy, Mildred Louise (Mil)

There's over 1,900 records, so I've only listed the name(s), as it appears in the yearbook in this message.

If you would like to view all of the information that I extracted from the yearbook, I have uploaded it to my freepages genealogy web site. The link to the first page of these extracts on my web site is:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/family/r...

Or it can be accessed through the "General Research" link on the main page at:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

Please note that my site contains free genealogy related data & IS NOT a "commercial" or "advertising" site. Until I can get back out & do research on my own families, my hobby is posting free genealogy related data online that may help other reseachers. I put all kinds of genealogy information on my web site (including information others send to me to share on the site), not just data about the families I am researching (therefore I can't answer questions about everyone I have listed on the site). I hope the information I've put online helps someone with their research . . .

Susan :)
Sassytazzy's Online Genealogy Research Library
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~sassytazzy/index.ht...

My distant cousin Dora Levy of Cardiff, Wales (parents David and Mary) married Barnett Levy, of Glasgow, Scotland, commercial traveller, in Glasgow, Scotland, July 1920. Barnett's father's name was Pinchas, a merchant. They were Jewish. Any information on Barnett's family would be helpful. I think Barnett could be Dora's cousin, as there were other Levy cousins in Glasgow at the time.

Bernard Levy was employed in 1934 as an attorney at the Brisbane Building on Main Street in the Lafayette development area, Buffalo, NY. He may have arrived in the Buffalo area sometime after 1930 as he is not on the Buffalo NY census in 1930. Madeline State was a bookkeeper at the Brisband Building in the same attorney's office. She had Bernard's daughter in 1934. Would like more information about Bernard's family history. Could anyone do a 1934 city directory look-up for me? Thanks.

I`m searching for Ilse Levy, born 4-12-1920 in Aach near Trier/Germany. She was the daughter of Ludwig and Frieda Levy.
As a jew, she was forced to leave Aach/Germany between 1935 and 38.
I think, she went to Chicago, where she maybe had a shoestore and married an unknown man.
I`m not a relative, but Ilse Levy was the best friend of my grandma, Anna Koch, born Gierens (known as Gierens Aennie). My grandma still lives in Aach and wants to know what happened to her youth-friend.
Any information would be helpfull, please e-mail to mett3201@uni-trier.

Regards,
Ernst Mettlach, Trier/Germany

My mother-in-law Ursula, is a survivor of the Holocaust. She was born in 1923 Berlin Germany to Babetta Jabloner (b 1894) and Alfred Levy (b 1886?). She had one brother Adolphi (b1922 d 1945). They escaped to Thailand to live there with her uncle George Levy (d after 1940) and aunt Hilda Levy (d 1940).

We have the records from the Holocaust museum in DC where her mother and father were killed in the concentration camps. Her grandmother Johanna Jabloner owned a grocery store below their home in Berlin and killed herself before they got to her.

I have a feeling there is someone out there related to this family. Since my mother-in-law is still alive, I would love any assistance I can get to contact her relatives. It would be too painful for her to visit Berlin again.

Thanks and I hope and pray there is someone out there that can point me in the right direction.
