In November, 1924 mobster and head of Union Siciliano Mike Merlo died unexpectantly, leaving a window of opportunity for Capone. Ordering flowers from O'Banion's place, three men entered on November 9. O'Banion was his usual self in the store, greeting his customers with a smile and holding out his hand, only this time the man held on, not letting go while the remaining two pulled revolvers and fired six shots point-blank. Some evidence indicates a pair known as the “Murder Twins”, John Scalise and Albert Anselmi, were hired by Capone to do the job.

Gang, Hymie Weiss, plotted revenge. His first attempt on January 12, 1925, caused the wounding of Capone's driver; the second would take place twelve days later, when Weiss and Moran would show up at Torrio's home and pump bullets into him in his driveway; police sirens, plus the misfiring of Moran's gun as he attempted an execution shot, saved Torrio's life (Newton, 305). Still, Weiss didn't let up,September 20, 1926 he led of caravan of Northsiders to the Hawthorne Hotel in what would be his most spectacular shooting. While Capone and his cronies were having lunch, a barrage of gunfire erupted from the street, causing all inside to hit the floor. The first rounds fired were blanks; nothing was hit in the lobby. As they got up, the real rounds were fired. More than 1,000 rounds of .45 caliber bullets were fired, hitting a bodyguard and a female bystander. On October 11, 1926, Hymie Weiss and four others left their headquarters, which was still atop O'Banion's flower shop, and headed across the street to the cathedral. In an apartment across the street two men poked guns out the window and fired, killing Weiss, a bodyguard, and wounding the remaining men.

mary dont know which day fits what u looking for but heres more info,im sure bullets fly cant be controlled whre they go by shooter.let me know if that helped ya.

i can say i no nothing of The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre but since im trying too find a jacob Lewandowski-
cuz he realted too my great grams as her brother, and cant find him,ure article got my attention. The Saint Valentine's Day Massacre is the name given to the murder of seven people as part of a Prohibition Era conflict between two powerful criminal gangs in Chicago, Illinois, in 1929,It all happened at 2122 North Clark Street, seems they did a movie 1967,in 1929: the South Side Italian gang led by Al Capone and the North Side Irish gang led by Bugs Moran. Former members of the Egan's Rats gang were also suspected to have played a large role in the St. Valentine's Day massacre, assisting Capone. On the morning of Thursday, February 14, 1929, St. Valentine's Day, six members of the "Bugs" Moran gang and Reinhardt H. Schwimmer were lined up against the rear inside wall of the garage of the SMC Cartage Company (2122 North Clark Street) in the Lincoln Park neighborhood of Chicago's North Side. They were then shot and killed, possibly by members of Al Capone's gang,Two of the shooters were dressed as Chicago police officers, and the others were dressed in long trenchcoats, All seven victims (with the exception of John May) were dressed in their best clothes, this is bad,,a sixth man named Reinhart Schwimmer, who was not actually a gangster but more of a gang "hanger-on" or "groupie", and a seventh man, John May who was a mechanic fixing one of the cars All seven men were killed in a volley of seventy machine-gun bullets and two shotgun blasts.heres the7 victims=1.Peter Gusenberg,2.Frank Gusenberg, 3.Albert Kachellek,4.Adam Heyer,5.Reinhart Schwimmer,6.Albert Weinshank,7.John May.

The slaughter exceeded anything yet seen in the United States at that time. At first, it was thought that police may have indeed been responsible for the killings, but 255 detectives were soon cleared. They soon announced they were seeking Fred "Killer" Burke and James Ray as the two uniformed police officers in the garage.Police also proposed that Joseph Lolordo may have been one of the machine gunners, wow cops found guns in town i was born st joseph michigan, wowowo,,Fred Burke died in prison in 1940 had all the guns n was arrested 1 yr later n sent too michigan and sent too prison for life he died 1940.In 1931, Capone was convicted of income tax evasion and was imprisoned for 11 years. The garage, which stood at 2122 N. Clark Street, was demolished in 1967,The bricks from the bullet-marked inside North wall were purchased and saved by Canadian businessman George Patey in 1967.Patey opened a nightclub called the Banjo Palace in 1971,The famous bricks were installed inside the men's washroom with Plexiglas placed right in front of it to shield it,The bricks were placed in storage until 1997 when Patey tried to auction them off on a website called Jet Set On The Net,Patey died on December 26, 2004, having never revealed how much he paid to buy the bricks at auction,January 24, 2008: The Saint Valentine's Day massacre is the first time the shooting of seven members of the north side gang was but into a full biography. authors William J. Helmer and Arthur J. Bilek, and a widow of one of the gunmen, and a lookout?s long detailed confession. thats all i can find.

Searching for information on my GG-Grandparents, Joannes Lukaszak and Margaretha Lewandowska of Posen, Poland. I recently located marriage records which show them as being married in 1852 at a Catholic parish in Ludzisko, Poland. They had 2 sons, Mikel and Marcin (my G-Grandfather) and probably others. Mikel and Marcin both immigrated to America, Marcin (Martin) settling in PA and Mikel (Michael) in Illinois.

I am looking for Joseph & Michalina (Weitrynzski) Lewandowski. they came over on boat. They had 2 daughters who never married and a son John who changed his name to John Thomas. They lived in Pennsylvania. I do not know where. I do know that Michalina had passed away prior to 1945. Joseph and the two daughters passed away later than 1945. I think Joseph had a brother who was already in the USA upon the arrival of Joseph and Michalina, but I do not have a name.

If she was still alive, Regina would be 97 years old. She was born in 1912, and married first George Sorenson, and after he died, then Frank Blavat. At this time, I am not sure when she died, I am still waiting on that piece of information from the in-laws, but I have been part of the family for over 10 years, so she passed away over 10 years ago at the latest.

I am searching for my Aunt Thelma Griffin Slize Podemski in South Bend, Indiana. She was born in Madison, Indiana in 1917. Her oldest child, a son was named Charles Slize. He lived in Madison with his Grandmother Cora Griffin.I have not been able to find any thing on my mother's's only sister or any of her family members. I know that she had a daughter named Jackie that was blind (unsure if she was a Slize or a Podemski)and a daughter named Sandy Lou, who was called Cookie, both daughters would have been born in the 1950-1960's. My mother's family last heard from her in the mid 1960's. I have been searching for her for over 30 years & I have not been able to find any type of record with her name on it. Can anyone help me. I also have a spelling of , & POLEMSKI,POLINSKI

Antonia Stanislawa Lewandowski was born in Poland in 1861, immigrated around 1884, married John Bieniewicz in about 1887 and settled in Williamsbridge, NY. She, John and family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota after 1900. John died in 1912 and after 1917 Antonia married Bruno Balinski. It is my understanding that she is died in Dillon, Montana. If Antonia appears on anyone's tree as a cousin or sibling let me know!

Thanks, Bonnie

My sister Sharon posted this 8 years ago. My name is Linda Guill Mayer, Great granddaughter of Joseph Leever. (Lewandowski) I don't know if you are still out there, but My Grandmother was Irene, daughter of Joseph and Clara Literski. Irene married Rudolph Drzymala and had three children, Robert, Bernice and Grace.
Some of the names I recognize as second or third cousins. I will ask my Uncle Bob. I don't have any info on my great grandmother Clara and would love some info on her myself. I would love a picture of her and the family if you know of anyone who may have one to copy. All I have is a photo of my great grandfather Joe, and my uncles Paul and Art and my grandmother Irene. All deceased. Please email me if you have any other info to share. Thanks so much!
Hi,
My name is Linda Guill Mayer. My sister is Sharon Bushy who posted this way back in 2000. I started researching again and found her post. I thought I would take a chance to see if you still have this email address. My great grandfather was Joseph Leever married to Clara Literski. They also went by Lewandowski. Joseph had sons Art,Paul, and a daughter Irene Pearl (she was my grandmother.) Do you have any info on my great grandmother Clara? I know she died in her 50's and they lived on Mulligan Street (not Malvina) in Chicago. Please email me at lyn_mayer@msn.com with anything you may have. Thank you, Linda
