My grandfsther was Oskar Wawrschinek - the first recording of only 2 is made on the genology website - 1 person 1856 in Hochlibin. In the quest to proof this incredible heritage I came across a "Schmarrn" equals comic page that notes Karl Lexa as the author of a nonsense story about a mountain exhibition. A sparcely clad mountain guide by the name of Gudrun Wawrschinek features and gets left to die after a picture of him was taken at the peak.
The second and last entry of my family is number of people 4
Oskar senior, his wife Marianne nee Korschen, their first borne son Oskar and my late father Guenther. The entry was made in 1972 the year my grandfather died.

we have quite a few Lexas over here in jersey, they came in the year 1870 with other lexas who I could not accurately place in the family tree (obviously extended family) I have a picture and name of the boat, and much much more. Did tons of work on this name ---my mom is Janis Lexa Koch, from James Lexa, from Otto Lexa, who came here as a 5 year old in 1870 with the fam. If you would like write me at Pineygrrl at yahoo.

hi...i have no info for the coat of arms, but i noticed this was a Lexa thread, so i thought i'd hop on. :)

my great-grandmother was Helen Lexa (sp? i'm still not sure how this was spelled. anyway, she was later Holloway), her brother and sister were Charlie Lexa and Georgie Lexa. their parents names escape me, but their whole family wound up in San Diego, CA.

my parents divorced when i was young (don't talk to my dad often enough this is his side of the family) and a good portion of that side of the family are deceased. i was wondering if anyone else was connected, could tell me where exactly they came from. i'm a mother now, myself, and i'd like my son to be hip the heritage. :)

You might be able to find some information in them like was he naturalized citizen etc. I supposed he did not apply for social security numbers?
http://ssdi.rootsweb.org

Edward Leksa Sr. is buried in Indiana as well as Edward Leksa Jr --father and son -- one died sometime in the 1980s --or perhaps it was in the 1970s, and the other in 2003/2004. I am searching for Leksas before these and so far the only one that looks kind of promising to me is an Anna Leksa born in Nova Stras, Czechoslovakia on April 19, 1876 --died on Nov 17, 1960 in Medford, Wisconsin; emigrated in 1890 to the United States Anna Leksa married Henry Janko (possibly was shortened from Yankowski?? I just found that in some part of this message board; it isn't carved in stone, but I feel it makes sense to me -- anyone else?) who was born in March of 1860 in Nijdek, Czechoslovakia -- no emigration date yet--
died June 14, 1938; and Henry was the son of Johan Janko and Kathryn Janko. I'm more interested in locating ancestry information right now, though. I would appreciate any info any one has regarding this branch of this family. I'll report back with any information I might discover elsewhere. Thanks!

Since entering the previous message, I have learned that his first name may have been spelled "Karel" and he could not have been technically from Czechslovakia in 1882 when he came to the USA. The family is reasonably sure he spoke Bohemian. He had a strong dislike for the German activity in Europe during WW2 and laid responsibility on "those Germans". Suggests Bohemia was his homeland? Where?
Have found nothing so far to secure that info.

Yes I found him in the 1930 census. His wife died in 1929, family info, so the three sons were all that was listed with him. I can find no evidence (nothing marked on this Census page) to show naturalization. The sons appear to be born in USA and are citizens. Family says he bought property in Jefferson County. MO, in 1930's. Now I'm looking for the deed to determine time of purchase. "Story" has it that he had a Palocek (sp?) friend that went in with him to buy "land with taxes over due". There is no evidence of SS application for him. When land was purchased he moved from the city and began farming until illness and death in 1942.

Family stories say that he was born in Bohemia but owned land in Czechoslovakia before coming to USA. I know he died in 1942. I have pictures of family grave sites but he has no headstone to photograph. Obit says he was 78 years old when he died in Jefferson Co. Missouri.

I taked to a lady in New Jersey that is sure she is related to us. She says Karl was a child coming here with his father, Wenzel.
I've never heard anything about that from family. Of course, family stories (remembered from childhood) may have been talking about the ggrandfather owning the land in Czech, not Karl.

I've checked Ellis Island but did not know about the "Karel" spelling. I will check again. Thanks.

My husband and I would love to meet other "relatives" but I am not physically able to travel far. A St. Louis, Missouri, USA meeting would be great (but expensive?)

Thank you for the prompt information.

Until later,

Jean Lexa gjlexa@nightowl.net
My husband is the grandson of Charles Lexa Sr. Before coming to the USA, the family says his name was Karl (Carl, maybe?) instead of Charles. He lived in Jefferson County, Missouri, died in the 1940's after raising three sons, Charles, Frank and Michael, who also lived and died in Jefferson County, Missouri.

Charles Lexa Sr.and Chas. Jr.are buried in a cemetery in St. Louis County, Missouri. The other sons are buried in Jefferson County.

The family has no immigration dates, no naturalization date, no date of marriage to Barbara Vitek his wife or any information about her). I can find nothing about his life prior to coming to Missouri.

If you need birth/death dates, etc. I will locate the ones I have.
If you have anything that would answer our many questions about his early life, we would appreciate having some other areas to research.

I hope this all makes sense to you.

If you have questions, please let me know.

Jean Lexa

Within the past week, I found a William and Anna Lexa buried in the Steis family plot at Resurrection Cemetery in St. Louis. I am not sure of the connection to the Steis family. The Steis's were related to my grandmother by marriage. Her maiden name was Pohlmann. The 1900 Census lists William and Anna Lexa from Austria. Her death date is 1/25/1947. Also buried in the plot was a Leonard Susanka and Cecelia Susanka.

HI, I have communicated with M. Hoffman quite a bit in the past year. She has had many difficulties and has not been able to share her info about Lexa family. Are you part of her family line? She seems to think there is a connection between her family and ours. I'd really like to confirm or deny this possibility.
My husband's grandfather, as best we can tell, was Karl Lexa, changed to Charles Lexa after he came to the states. He came in through Ellis Island as an adult-- date ?? He died in Missouri in the 1940's.
Does this mean anything to you?
JL

I have very little info on my husband's family other than the grandfather, Charles, came to St. Louis "from Bohemia" but he was supposed to have been a land-owner in Czechovakia until Germany took over (early 1900's?). His name may have been Karl prior to coming to US. Does this match with anyone's info?

Hello Jean! My husband's great-grandfather was Charles Lexa and the only thing we have ever heard about him was that he came from Bohemia and settled down in St. Louis. I am thinking this Charles and your Charles are one and the same. My husband's grandfather was Frank, one of Charles's sons. I am looking for ANY info on the Lexa family and would like to connect with other descendants of Charles Lexa. Again, we know nothing of him but we do have a picture of him taken in the 1930's (approx.). I would appreciate any info you might have. Thank you!
