I am looking for information on Ella J Lhommedieu, born approx. 1841 and died in 1882 at 41 yrs.old. Her brother, Edward buried her with his wife and daughter in Evergreen cemetery in New York. We think she was an opera singer who traveled to South America and across the United States on singing engagements. We are looking to find what name she might have used professionally. Her parents were Capt. Richard Willis l'hommedieu who married Eleanor M. Keeling on Dec. 9, 1832. She had a brother,Edward, sister Mary H. and another brother, Richard Willis l'hommedieu. She supposedly adopted my grandfather, William Lewis L'hommedieu. I'm in doubt that this boy was adopted and not her real son since she didn't marry till he was in his teens. According to census papers,1880, we saw a E. L'hommedieu, age 35, who had a daughter, 20 yrs old, living at home, the address was Van Buren St,Brooklyn, NY. Her mother, Eleanor took the children to New Orleans, after her husband, Capt.Richard Willis Lhommedieu, died at sea, in 1843, this is when we lose any contact with trying to find where Ella was.
