Hi Brad,

I know your father, he is my cousin Dave. He contacted me after your mom told him that I had a daughter (guess your mom worked at the St.Mary's Hospital in Kitchener in 1989). It was your dad that told me that my father had died, as we were estranged from the family after my mom left my father George. He came to my house, and I went to your house where I saw a picture of your great grandfather. He had a BIG nose! Do you remember the picture? Glad we didn't inherit that!

Anyway, thanks for answering. I heard that you guys moved up north somewhere. Hope you and your family are well.

Tracey Bendik

Hello, yes its been awhile. If you read the earlier posts, I was contacted by a brother I didn't know I had, and subsequesntly found out that there was at least one more that I didn't know either, but I haven't met him. I guess that's what happens when you shake the family tree. I picked through info over the years, but it isn't easy. My line can be traced from Stephen Liddard and Ann Reeves. They were married in 1799. Their son Charles William came to Canada and married Mary Diamond of Canning, Ontario (about 5 minute drive from my home in Paris Ontario. The Diamond family still lives here. I don't know them though. I do know I am related to a Dave Liddard.

What is your female ancestor's name? Did she come from Stephen and Ann's children? I have all their names and birthdates.

You can email me if you want, at t.bendik@hotmail.com

Thanks for contacting me Les!

Tracey

hiagain -i should have noted on my first message that of course my mother's maiden name was Liddard. I now remember that Uncle Ken's (Ken Liddard) daughters were susan and gail (i think)and his wife was dorothy (called dot).
Brian was his youngest son. His other sons were Ken, Murray?? and ???. My Mother had connection with the Salvation Army through her great Aunt Ada who may have been a cameron and related to mum's cousin - a Colonel (salvation army colonel) Cameron who I think was the second highest salvation army officer in Canada at the time. I a very interested in the remaining liddard family that i knew . especially
Brian and his sisters. I am particularly interested in learning more about mum and Ken's father who I never knew.

Hi April, and all those interested in the Liddard family.

Not sure this will be off direct assistance, but my mother's mother was a Liddard before marring a 'Cook' from Peckham, South London. Before becoming a Cook, she was Elizabeth Liddard, born 11th Feb 1884 at 7 Marmaduke Place, John Street, near Cable St, St George in the East, East London. Her Father was John Richard Liddard (a Lighterman on the River Thames) born 1857, St George in the East, East London, and his wife was Elizabeth Liddard (formally; Connell, from Cork in Ireland). John Richard's father was James Robert Liddard (a Waterman / Lightermen on the River Thames), born 1815, also St Georges in the East, London and his wife was Hannah Liddard (formally; Bromley). I believe my Liddards all where born and lived around John Street (which no longer exsists, but the site off can be located between Ponier Street and just north of the current railway line crossing Cannon Street Road close to Cable Street). This site of Marmaduke Place and John Street is now covered by ocal authority flats.

Sorry that's as far back as I've got so far with my Liddard relatives, although I do have quite a few brothers and sisters from these three generations.

Kia Ora from New Zealand
I always put the name of the town/village that appear in my family tree into Google seeking a public library, local history society or genealogical society.
Baysville is a village /town obviously and has it's own library with an email address. I'd suggest you write to them. I know there's an entry for William Charles Liddard's wife Eliza Fairy's family. So you could seek a copy. I didn't ask about the Liddards but it's possible couple of them were born there so it might be worth a try.
I am trying to find descendants of Arretta RYCKMAN : Lucy May BRITTON both of whom settled in Bracebridge and George FAIREY who stayed in Baysville - Eliza Fairy's siblings
Cheers
Marlene
Kia Ora April
Since writing my earlier message I have tracked William Charles Liddard back to Stephen & Ann 's names on Charles William's marriage details. I did this out of interest only as some of the Family trees posted are not quite right!

As with any family tree you do have to watch brothers and cousins naming children with the same names about the same time!!

Eliza LIDDARD died in pregnancy in 1901 so that really ended my particular line with the Liddard family except for her children whom I now know about.

In Bracebridge was Aretta RYCKMAN with husband William and 12 kids!
Having been diverted into the Liddard line I now need to get back into sorting out the rest of the Fairy lineage!

Ask at Baysville Library for a copy of the article on Thomas Fairy -that will be easier than me sending it from New Zealand. In fact you can buy the whole book which might be of use to you with some of the Liddard Line as well. Ask the Librarian for advice as to the content..
Regards
Marlene
Did your William Charles Liddard marry Eliza Amy Fairey by any chance??

If so I have Eliza's family tree back to the 1760s if you're interested in swapping info. I would love a photo and any children as I am hoping to publish a book by 2008 for the 130th anniversary of my great grandmother's arrival in New Zealand.

Eliza's father and my great grandmother were 2nd cousins.
Hope to hear from you
Marlene

Kia Ora from New Zealand!
I have William Charles Liddard married to Eliza Amy Fairey 4 June 1895 Bracebridge Ontario.
Assuming the first names have been reversed at some time , is this likely to be your family?

Eliza Amy was my main interest as her family settled in Baysvillle and her father was related to my great grandmother who came to NZ in 1878.
There is an article about the Faireys in the Baysville Public Library which I have just got a copy of in the past week!
Eliza Amy 's sister also married in Bracebridge 2 years later.
Hope to hear from you - as I haven't got any children for this marriage yet.
Regards
Marlene

Do you have any further information on Charles William Liddard besides being born in England in 1835? Charles, and William are both common names throughout the Liddiard clan in the 1700 and 1800's. Do you have his fathers name? An area where he might have been born? When did he emigrate to Canada? Liddiard has been spelled many ways, children have had it spelled one way when christened and another way when married all and yet another way on the census. Illiteracy was normal in England until the 1881 Mundellas Education act, which made it compulsary for children between 5 - 10 years to go to school.

Where did you get your information on his birth? I looked at the Bracebridge 1891 census. Your Charles claims he was 52, if that was the case he was born about 1839. Do you have any documents from when he arrived in Canada?

I really think that you need to get the documents from when he arrived in Canada. With the dates and possible address' provided from England, you may be able to locate him on a census. The Liddiard/Liddard family seems to come from Wiltshire, I am expecting the Ramsbury Wiltshire BT's any day, but with so little information I doubt I will find anything, or what I do find will be the wrong information for your branch of the family as his parents names are very common.

How do I get the documents? Where do I go to get them?
I know he settled in Bracebridge. there is a street named Liddard Street and his homestead still stands today in Bracebridge.

I think Liddards and Liddiards are related in someway. I have heard that two brothers came over from England one brother settled in canada and one brother settled in the states. They changed their spelling of last name when they settled here from England. I'm just trying to find the connections.

Try writing a letter to April-Lynn Hill, 16 Mariposa Dr., Orillia, Ontario, L3V767 Canada.

She is a Liddard. I have been corresponding with her as my Grandmother was a Liddard from Ontario Canada. There are several working this line. I have an e-mail at work but not at home. It is dp-db-cpac@dpg.army.mil. I work for the US Army, hence the strange e-mail.

Charles William Liddard - B. 5/3/1835 England, D. 6/5/1909 Canada, m.
