I was brought up to believe that my grandmother, Marjorie Alicia Freeman was directly related to Alice Liddell. I haven't managed to prove it.
Her mother was Rose Liddell bn 1873 at Stratford Essex, her father was William Liddell, born abt 1843 at Gibraltar, a mariner and later, a labourer.
I'm sure the Rev Dodgson who befriended young Alice, was living at Oxford, or thereabouts. They would have led quite different lives to our Liddel's in South Essex.
I suppose they may have been cousins or 2nd cousins?
