Hello Sharon: Try this out: When typing in a name, type in the first three letters and then type in *
for example: Val*, or Oph*, or Hav*.
All the variations of the name would come up. I have found this to be quite helpful on Ancestry.com.
What state did she live in?

Sincerely,
BL Hudson

Hello HL:

I am hoping that your list of Liggan relatives and ancestors in connected with the Liggens branch in my family.
Virginia Liggens (daughter of George Liggens) married my great grandfather Horace Eugene Byrd in Richmond. Virginia was born March 11, 1874. She and Horace had a huge family. Virginia died April 17, 1939 at one of her daughter's (Cora Edwards)home in Philadelphia PA. She was buried at Woodland Cemetery there in Richmond. Hopefully she and George are connected with your family. I'm going yo keep my fingers crossed....get get on my knees! IT would be great to obtain a few more leads.

Thanks much!
Brenda Louise Hudson

Hello Harry:

Could you also please check your book for a George Liggens and daughter Virginia Liggens? I believe these are Henrico County Liggens. Virginia Liggens was born March 11, 1874, married Horace Eugene Byrd, Sr., they had a huge family. Virginia'd death certificate doesn't indicate her mom's name. Virginia died April 17, 1939 at her daughter's residence in Philadelphia, PA. She was buried at Woodland Cemetery in Richmond, VA.

Does Virginia or her dad, George link with your family? These are African Americans.

Thanks for your reply.
Sincerely,
Brenda Louise Hudson

Hello Bill:

I realize this is an old message. The Liggens branch of my family centers around Virginia Liggens who was born March 11, 1874 (I think in the Richmond area..... It's not indicated on her death certificate) She married Horace Eugene Byrd, Sr. They had a huge Richmond based family, and she dies one year after Horace, Sr.'s death. Virginia passed in Philadelphia, PA where her daughter lived on April 17, 1939. She was buried at Woodland Cemetery there in Richmond with Horace, Sr. Her death certificate does not indicate her mother's name. Her father was George Liggens. Does he connect with your family?
IT would be nice to get started with this branch of my family tree.

Sincerely,
Brenda Louise Hudson
Hello There!

How have you been advancing with your research. Thanks again for all the help you have given me. I hope you're well. I found out that Virginia Liggens father was George Liggens. There are a few George Liggens, so I'll have to do some more digging to locate who her mother was. Remember on her tombstone, she was born March 11, 1874 and she died April 17, 1939. I have her death certificate, but it doesn't indicate who her mother was.

Stay well!
Brenda Louise Hudson

Good news, I do have a Percy and Ella in my listings, are you related to the Liggans by blood or by marriage, I am a grandson? I obtained a large listing, (about 4 full pages) of Liggans from a distant relative (cousin, I think), but due to unexpected changes in my travel schedule, I was not able to sit down and go over the whole list and add or fill in any additional info I have. Do you have an email address, if so, I can scan the copies I have and email them to you? I also have quite a few pictures I can send.
HL

looking for information on any Liggan's in the area. Am told that there was an Ophelia Ligon listed in the 1930 Hugenot Districk, Powhatan, Co, VA census with other Ligons. A 1920 census showed her in Henrico Co., Fairfield, District living with her daughter Alice Elva LIggan Gregory and her family, along with a Byder (sp) (daughter).
Does any of this ring a bell to anyone?
I've seen her name spelled as Villa, Havilla....and then someone mentioned maybe it was Ophelia in real.
thanks

Thanks for answering my mail. It will take a couple of days for me to put together what I have, but I will get back to you. My wife & I will be staying with one of my sons in Florida for the next two months. I would like to send my Florida address, but don't know how to do it without everyone else seeing it on the internet. If you know how to do it maybe you could let me know. I have some pictures, obits, miscellaneous info. Willie, Jr. is my mothers father and retired from the government printing office in Washington DC. My family left Wash. when I was ten (I'm now 65) and settled in Fl. My father passed on in the early 70's and my mother (83) and her brother Jimmy Liggan (85) are living with my brother and his wife in the state of Washington. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
Thanks again, Harry
