I'm an African-American author, William Alfred Liggins, native Clevelander now living in Florida. I'm the son of William Alfred Sr. (born 1935) and Betty Lane-Liggins. My grandfather, Alvin Peter Liggins (born 1906, sisters Midge and Frances "Frank"), moved his family to Cleveland from Zanesville OH in the 1940's. He is the son of William Washington Liggins (born 1877 in Galiopolis OH, had a brother named Fred) who is the son of Henry William Liggins (born 1854 in Virginia). Henry had two brothers (Samuel may have been one of them), one stayed with him after the civil war and worked with him on Ohio riverboats before going west to California. The other may have stayed around the Ohio river area or moved on, but I am unable to find his family.
Henry William may have been the son of Joseph Liggins (born 1830's Virginia) who was the son of William Liggins who was born 1789 because of a liason between a colonial Virginia farmer and an African slave woman whose name was only recorded as a number.
I also have Irish blood from a great great grandfather, Augustus McCuen. Other family names of relatives include Goins, Iaccabucci, Kemp, Philpot, Graybil, Bender.
Always searching for more info.
