Ila Louise Likley b.1910 - d.1940

I'm trying to find some info leading to my g-grandmother's parents. Her name was originally Ila Louise Clarke born in Pennsylvania in June 1910. Sometime in 1910 or 1911 in New York state her father, Kenneth Clarke, killed her mother, Pansy (maiden name unknown), and then killed himself. My g-grandmother also had a biological brother; however, I didn't hear what ever happened to him. She ended up being adopted by a family by the last name of Likely. I know that these Likelys ended up in Detroit, Michigan.

Also, my g-grandmother ended up marrying into a Ferguson lot, so her name changed to Ila Louise Ferguson. Both her and her adopted Likely parents ended up being buried in a cemetery around the Detroit area.

If this rings any bells and you have any info that will help me out, please don't hesitate to email me at riley@frozenonthespot.com

Re: African American LIKELY/LACKLEY

Hello cousin Ruby!!

I just happened to check Ancestry.com today and saw your posting in the Likely forum. I usually bypass this one as there are usually no new postings. I am confident that there is a connection as my wife's family is also from Evergreen. To be exact, they were raised in the Johnsonville community and attended Sandy Grove Missionary Baptist Church. We have a huge family and many family members still live in Conecuh County. My wife's uncle recently moved back there and got married. His name is Claxton Likely.

My wife's mother is Amelia Ann Likely-Prioleau and lives in Northern Kentucky right across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio where more family members live. Uncle Clike and Momma Ann's parents were Lewis Likely and Ossie Ammons-Likely.

Ossie's line is as follows:
daughter of Henry Ammons (Granddaddy Good) and Amelia Nared-Ammons (Momma Nood), granddaughter of Lemuel Ammons & Sarah Williams and Colonel Nared & Jennie McCreary-Nared, great-granddaughter of Ned Ammons & Priscilla Horton-Ammons, Henry Williams & Judy Williams, George Nared (Nored) & Elsie Ewing-Nared.

These family lines also include the Drakeford, Boykin, Taliaferro, Samuel, Johnson, Bradley, Culliver, Richardson, Meeks, Jones, Oliver, Bonam, Turk, Mallory, Holmes, Davis, Sanders, Brye, Franklin, Andrews, Howard, Lane, and Union families all originally from Conecuh County, Alabama. I would love to talk with you and see which family branch or branches you are connected to. Please feel free to email me @ reverenddme368@verizon.net to discuss further. Praise God from whom all blessing flow and wishing you and the Alabama families much love, peace, joy, and happiness.

Dante
Great Mills, Maryland

African American LIKELY/LACKLEY

Well, I know there aren't many folks posting here, but I thought I'd just visit and leave a message just in case anyone in the next couple of years or so would stop by.

My LIKELY/LACKLEY branch is from Georgia. So far I have been able to locate them in Crisp and Dooly counties and to a smaller and more recent extent in Crawford county.

My father is John Likely. His parents are Fred Likely and Iravera Likely (BENTLEY). Grandparents are Albert Lackley and Dixie Likely (SPRIGG/SPRIGGS).

Fred Likely had siblings of Julie, Mary Dee, Lucius (LACKLEY) and Daughter.

I know little to nothing about Albert Likely and have been woefully unable to locate him in any census records. That's pretty much all I have for right now.

I do have more information on the BENTLEY side of the family though.

Cheers!
