Hi There, I don't know if you have received an answer to this old posting or not. But, I am a descendant of Richard Lyles too. He was killed in a Civil War battle in TN, but it wasn't Shiloh. Let me find out (I have the info) which battle it was. He is also buried in TN. He died in a Union hospital. However, his son, Lorenzo Dow, is buried in what is now, Lee County, MS. It was part of Itawamba County before the Civil War. In fact, I visited his grave earlier this year. He is buried at the Eggville Baptist Church cemetary. Richard would be my ggg-grandfather. --Teresa Stevens (Doug's sister)

Hey I was 46 before I finally abandoned the Liles boat! Had to think about it then. Figured I was still too young for that foolishness.

Anyway who was the first Liles that came to Arkansas and before that where were your family living? I'm just following the trail. We know back to 3 brothers John b 1790, Amos b 1794 and William, b 1803 born all in South Carolina but not sure who came before that. Sound familiar?

I would love the coat of arms and anything else you want to ramble on about!

Thank you Larry for the clarification. We had always been told that the name was started during the Norman Invasion. It had been what the Norman Conquers called us and stuck. So we were close. Do you have a website for the DNA study? I would like to send it to the men in the family.

Thanks

Greta Lyles/Beach

Loyd Hello,

I am a Liles/Lyles from South/Carolina/Tennessee/Kentucky. Most of our family stopped and stayed in Lawrence Co, TN/Lauderdale Co, AL area. Some of our family went to Arkansas too. My grandfather changed the spelling of the name to Lyles for political reasons. Anyway I looked up the Doomsday Book online and although it says you can read it I am not finding anything pertaining to us. Where are you able to read it really?

Thanks Greta Lyles/Beach
in Kentucky

Jan, I can't answer your specific questions but I can add a little info to these Liles in Henderson Co. John (1781) & Darcus had several children. One son, Mayberry b. 1816 married Eleanor Berry. This marriage record is in the Union Co, KY, Courthouse at Morganfield. There are two Liles Cemeteries in Henderson Co, KY. One has been bulldozed, a number of graves stones were piled up. I got as much info as I could from the ones on top. This was several years ago & I do not know the current status of the "pile". The other cemetery I have not seen.

Liles/Lyles

I am looking for information on John Liles/Lyles born 1781 in Anson Co., NC. I believe his father was John Liles also. John (1781) lived in SC ( the Chester County area)from an early age. He married Dorcas Land and they eventually moved to Henderson Co., KY circa 1818. I am looking for the Will of his father John Liles Sr. and even his grandfather possibily related to Ephraim Lyles. John Lyles, SR. was supposedly married to Celia Fields but I am looking for proof in the form of a Will, marriage or birth record to sort out all of the Johns, Williams and Ephraims. There is a John Lyles listed as an Indian Agent in SC in 1750 and I am wanting to determine if any of my John Lyles are descended from him. It is possible that he was the father or grandfather of my John Liles (1781).

Thanks,
Jan
Thanks so much for the information. It is such a shame that they bulldozed the cemetery! I have been to the area and have wanted to return and look in the Liles's cemeteries. I have all the information on Dorcas and John Liles's children and many of their children's children. Dorcas and John Liles's daughter Dorcas is my 3rd ggm. She married Wiley Jones. They had about 8 or 9 children, several died very young and 2 as young married women.

Jan
