Joseph C. Lincoln related to Abraham Lincoln?

Hello. A nice gentleman told me that his research indicated that Thomas (the cooper) was not directly related to Abraham Lincoln. However, I was told by my mother, Anne Sargent Lincoln (now 80), that her grandfather, Joseph C. Lincoln (the well-known Cape Cod novelist from Brewster, Mass.), was related through a brother to Lincoln. Any input? I recently learned that my cousin Ginny has the "Family Bible," so we'll do some research from that end. Thanks for any help you can give us. Vicky
