Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. on August 13th, at the Chapel of the Chimes in Oakland, CA. Funeral services will be held on August 14th, at St. Columba's Catholic Church at 6401 San Pablo Ave Oakland, CA. at 11 a.m.

I am researching my husband's family history. The Linden family come from Co. Down and lived in villages between Lurganare where a John Linden was born in 1791,and Rostrevor.The family names were John, George,and William,so I don't think we have a connection.Best wishes.

I have just read this thread while idly surfing. My name is Brendan Linden and I am originally from the village of Ballynahinch in County Down. My grandfather was William Linden, born in 1888. His father, my great-grandfather was Francis Linden, born in 1847 and, I believe, my great-great-grandfather was William Linden, except that we have no records of this. I was interested to know what the origin of your William Linden was.

An update: Stella LINDEN married my father Terence DUFF in July 1948 at the Paddington Registrar's Office, London. Stella's mother had a sister and they were both related to the WIMBUSH family of Birmingham who were proprietors of confectionery and tea-shops. Stella had a step-brother called Ambrose.

Stella was an actress and writer. She helped John Osborne write his first play and directed it in Huddersfield in 1950. In 1951, she left for America and about a year later wrote to my father saying she had had a 'quickie' divorce in Mexico. Apart from a TV appearance in late 1951, her other credits in America are writing a script for a Monkees TV episode, and writing a book "Two a Penny" which became a film for which she wrote the screenplay. Nothing else is known of her.

Can anyone help?

I wish I had the info. you are in need of, but in reading your question I was hoping that maybe your family had some connection to my husband's. His grandfather died around 1950 I believe and his name was David Linden from the Paso Robles area, very near to Fresno and Oakland. If you have any information linking him to your family I"d love to receive that. He has no information on his grandfather as he died when his mother was three years old. I keep looking for info. for/on the family when time permits.

Hi There,

I have been having real trouble finding any information about my Great Grandfather Edgar Linden born in Kensington, London 1882. All i have is information that my nan has given me directly.
I know he is linked to America or Canada as one of his children died there a few years ago (Edward) but i cant be sure where about. He originally married an unknown woman and had Alice Linden, Edgar Linden (possibly), Edward Linden and Bill, my Nan says she has more half brothers and sisters but never met them.
He then Remarried to Louisa Kemp and had Marie, John, Edna, Ron and June. These names may be repeated but again cant be sure.
My nan is adament that somewhere along the line her fathers relatives were linked to a ship sinking. Would be nice to finally get some answers. In the 1891 census he is down as living with a woman named Charlotte and her husband.

Sorry, but I don't think we have any connection with James Linden. The only James Linden I have in my family tree was born in Co. Down in 1869 and migrated to Canada after 1906

Stella Linden is my step-mother. She married my father Terence Duff in London around 1948-9. She was an actress and writer. She left my father for America in 1951 and is believed to have divorced my father by having a "quickie" Mexican divorce not long afterwards. It is believed she lived in the Hollywood/Los Angeles area. Any news at all of her life (and death?) in America would be appreciated.

DoD Identifies Army Casualties

The Department of Defense announced today the death of three soldiers who were supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom. They died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, on July 8, when an improvised explosive device detonated near their Mine Protected Vehicle (RG-31) during combat operations.

All soldiers were assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade, Warner Barracks, Bamberg, Germany.

Killed were:

Spc. Troy C. Linden, 22, of Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Your ancestry is the same as mine. My Gt grandfather was John Linden from Cumbria England. His Second Son came to the US in 1909 and was my Grandfather. I too, cannot trace past John And Bridget. contact me, I have some documentation on the "Cumbria" Lindens.

Your Query is similar to mine. My Grandfather was William henry Linden, born in Workingtom in 1888. His fater was John linden, born in County Down in 1852. John had two brothers, Hugh who went to Glasgow Scotland, and James who never married. James died in 1936 in newcastle. It is possible we are drom the same line.

I have been mulling over your post for a while now.I have been trying to find out where my Gt,Gt,Gt Grandfather James Linden is from.All I know is that he was born in County Down in 1814 and went to Scotland around 1834.His Father was also called James and he died in County Down aged 41,I have no place of Birth or Siblings for either of them.What attracts me to your post is the names John,James and Hugh.These names occur in every generation of my family and as you know Irish families tend to carry names through the generations too.Can you trace your family tree any further back than your Gt,Gt Grandparents and would you know any places of birth for them.If we could find a connection I have a very comprehensive family tree back to My Gt,Gt,Gt,Gt Grandparents born around 1785 and a generation further back still on my Gt,Gt,Gt,Gt,Grandmothers side,but still no clue as to where in County Down they were all from.Any info at all would be a great help.Thanks,John Linden.

John Linden / Bridget Linden Co. Down

Trying to find information on my Gt Gt Grandparents John and Bridget Linden. They both lived in Co. Down in the early to mid 1800's. I believe Bridget's maiden name was O'Toole or possibly Teale. They had three sons Hugh Linden born 1848, John Linden born 1852 and James Linden born 1855/56. The three brothers emigrated. John to Cocckermouth, Cumbria, England. James I believe became a merchant seaman and died in Newcastle in 1936. My Great Grandfather Hugh settled in Glasgow where he married Mary Wallace. They had a number of Children, Elizabeth, James, John, Hugh, Kate, Joseph and my Grandfather Tommy.
I have plenty of info regarding this lineof the family if anyone is interested. Any assistance in finding out more about my Gt Gt Grandparens would be much appreciated.

Hi Darren, I think we may be loosely related. Great-gran was Elizabeth Robertson nee Linden from Colmonell. My dad had an aunt Jenny who has the coal business in Pinwherry. My dad is Alex Wilson - parents Jim and Jenny Wilson They met when my gran moved from Glegarnock to Pinwherry to look after her granny Linden

I believe we are of the same family. I am a direct descendent of John Linden of Cockermouth. His son William Henry Linden went to the USA around 1910. William is my Grandfather. I hace some letters from William's sisters, Mary Linden and Ruth Topping written in the 1930's. I also have a few pics of Mary and "Uncle Jack".

This sounds like my family. Thomas E Linden and Anna Catherine Stecken or Stickney were married 16 April 1865 in Fond du Lac Wisc. Eleven children. Two died in infancy. Lena (elen in census) had a twin brother who died at age two. 1880 census shows Elen, Catharine, Mary, Anna, Virginia, Margreat, Elizabeth. Also have names Clara and Janet. Thomas died in a blizzard in 1882 in Sleepy Eye Mn and died there. I am a descendant of Lena.

I am currently looking for a Walter Heyden Linden and His spouse Ellen (Marie) Heustess. Walter was born in germany 1882 and Ellen was born Jun 13 1905. Also Ellen was said to of died in a state hospital in south carolina. I am unable to find any marriage records or any mention of children. I have only found one child and that is all. I cant find there parents either. If you have any information please let me know!

My great great great grandfather, Henry Webster's 2nd wife was Nancy Mowsle. One of their daughter's name was Nora Sara, B:July 1888 in Rushville, Buchanan County, MO. She married Jacob Linden, They can be found in the 1910, Kansas, Dickinson, Logan Township, District 47, Jacob is 32, Nora is 22 and have a son William or Willie 4. They also can be found in the 1930 Kansas census, Shannon Township, Atchison County. Jacob, 50, Nora 40. Both census reveals that Jacob was born in Kansas, but his parents were born in Germany. They are both buried in Oak Hill Cemetery, Atchison, Ks. Archison, Kansas is a very few miles from St Joseph, MO. Nora died Jine 19, 1955 and Jacob died 19 July 1962. I assume they died in Kansas so you probably could request a copy of his death certificate from KS vital statistics. I have a lady helping me find obituaries for Nora & Jacob Linden. If I find them, I will post on the message board if it provides valuable info. Hope this helps. I plan on visiting that area this summer and will visit the cemetery and take pictures..

Looking for descendants of Jacob & Nora(Webster) Linden. Nora is the daughter of my great great great grandfather Henry Webster & his 2nd wife Nancy Mowsle. They lived in Atchison, Ks and had a son William/Willie. Jacob died 19 July 1962 and Nora died Jine 29, 1955 they are buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Atchison, KS.
