Hi...do you have an email address for me to send the pics to???
So the way this goes is I live on an Island on the St. Marys River Canadian side. There is a U.S. Island right beside us. In the old days people visited back and forth with no worries of "border crossing" My mother grew up on the shore which faced the U.S. side. In the summers at the Light house on the U.S. side there were always American "boys" working for their summer jobs. The young kids along the shore of similar age always got together.
The other possibility is that the Wally may have worked on the dredge. The dredge would be in the channel back in those days almost every summer as it is also the shipping channel. I think the dredge is a more likely possibility as I slightly recall that Wally may have rented a cabin on my grandparents property....Also on one page of the photo album along with the 'Wally" pics is one of the dredge.
Anyway let me know where to post the pics to...thanks.

Are you related to the Lindgren's in any way? Where did you get the photo's? Thanks for your help with this, Michalle

Carl, yes, I was told that he sold the Company to another firm, I was told it was Starkist. Johan didnt say he was Mayor of the town. He would be about 74 years old right now. I did note that uncle Fred (thats what my family called him)applied for and received several Patents on machine items. One says he was from Ohio, and I was not aware they moved to Ohio for any stint of time. But the others reflect the Bridgeport residence. Freds death or Social Security Application shows him as being born in a place called "Gronli" (umlaut over the o in that) which I suppose is in Fredrickstadt. I have written you privately, so we can continue to correspond off-site. I'll share pictures with you. Yours, David.

Hi Carl...nice to meet you! I have many great old photographs from my grandmother and great grandmother of your father, aunt, and Lindgren grandparents. The Lindgrens used to come from New York City and CT, to my great grandparents (the Ericsons..no relation to Olga Ericson, Freds wife) house during the summers, in N.J. They would go to the beaches and lakes in the area, and have picnics and all sorts of outings together. My great aunts and uncle, remembered those days with the greatest fondness. As many photographs as there are, it seems like this family was a very close one. Gerda did send me some photographs, and I have a couple of letters from your father. He told me that I should also try to contact John? Svele?, or somethhing like that, who they were close to and who had come to the USA for visits. I did and the man was still alive and responded with whatever information he had on the Lindgrens. He owned a Sardine/Fish plant at some point, and his wife Aud was a 1st cousin to your father and my grandmother. Have you ever heard of the Svele family? Well nice to meet you Carl....your cousin, David

Norman was my grandmothers cousin. His father was Ferdinand Lindgren and mother Olga Ericson, and Ferdinand "Fred" came over here around 1899, from Fredericstadt Norway. They owned a company called the "Globe Tapping Company"in Bridgeport, which was a tool and dye manufacturing firm. His sister Gerda has since passed away as well. I did not know Norman had children, the last I heard from him was in 2001. Thanks for posting this.

Re: LINDGREN, Broe - Sweden to New York

Tom - We were looking at some of the older messages and came across yours about the Adolphsons in Buffalo. We have been working on that angle for the last week, so here goes a thumbnail sketch: Bror J. Lindgren was from Malmo in Skane Lan --- or so the Swedish Emigration Record says. He arrived in New York aboard the "Alaska" on 15 August 1887. The manifest listed him as an "engineer" born about 1868. He proceeded to Providence, Rhode Island, and, we believe, got a draftsman position with the Rice and Sargent Engine Co. Hulda S. Adolfson from Madesjo, Kalmar Lan, had arrived in Boston aboard the "Scandinavian" on 11 November 1886. She was listed as a "domestic", although the purser mislabeled her as a "male". Bror and Hulda were married in Providence on 6 November 1890. The first three of their sons were born in Providence (Adolph Fred in 1891; Lennart Jacob in 1893; and Harold Robert in 1898). The fourth and last son, Albert R. Lingren, was born in Conn. in 1900.

We are currently trying to flesh out the relocations of this family. After a short time in Conn., they appear to have had a brief stay in Brooklyn, New York, where Bror did some work for the old E. W. Bliss factory in Brooklyn which made torpedoes for the U.S. Navy. They then went on to Buffalo, New York, where Bror was employed by the Niagara Machine and Tool Works. He eventually became their Chief Engineer. Bror also did some work for the Toledo Machine and Tool Co. in Toledo, Ohio. Bror was a prolific inventor, especially with regard to machines for the sheet metal industry. By using the Google patent search, we have found at least 16 approved patents under his name. One of them was done for the American Can Co. of New Jersey and involved a new method for sealing the tops of sardine cans.

The family did well in Buffalo. Adolph or "Dolph" became an engineer and then an advertising account executive. Lennart and Harold became dentists. Albert was an attorney with an insurance company. Hulda died between 1920 and 1929. By 1930, Bror was remarried to a woman named Esther. Bror died between 1934 and 1941. All of the sons are gone as well. We haven't been able thus far to get past two grandchildren born in 1929 and 1930. It gets confusing with so many Lindgrens in America.

We have been searching for Bror and Hulda for some time. All we had was a brief mention in the 1913 obituary of Peter Dalson -- and that used the wrong first initial for his sister. We just happened to fall into it when we discovered that Gottfried Adolphson, the youngest of the Adolphson/Dalson brothers (actually a half-brother) and the founder of Great Lakes Pressed Steel Corp. in Buffalo, witnessed a patent application for Bror Lindgren in 1909. That was too much of a coincidence to pass up. When we tracked Bror and Hulda to Providence, we found that, at one point, Christine Adolphson, the umarried sister of this clan, was living with them. Christine later lived with Gottfried in Buffalo until she passed away in the 1930's.

That's it in brief. We are currently in the process of meshing it all together for our annotated genealogy. If you find something on Bror and Hulda that we missed, let us know. Cheers.

Hi David,
Yes I met Johan. He used to stay with us in Connecticut when I was a kid. His company became Norway Foods, the largest Norwegian fish importer. His son Alf Johan also stayed with us a few times. He is now the mayor of Holmestrand, Norway. I haven't had any contact with them since the 1970's but I have followed them vicariously through the internet. Our side of the family wasn't very close in recent years. I was pretty close to the Hylans (Gerda's children) when I was young but lost contact with them over the years. Unfortunately, I have few pictures or memorabelia from my father or grandparents. After dad married Mildred Hansen her family became his primary focus. His step-daughter Laurel handled the estate. Unfortunately, dad had Alzheimers in his later years and by the time Mildred died he had lost much of his memory. On my last visit, he didn't even know me.

There is a man in Norway who posted that he is trying to find out what happened to Julius Emil Karlsen Ende, born 17 Sept. 1887 in Botne, Vestfold Norway. I have answered to him that I have traced this man on his emgration to Buffalo New york, that's what it said on the NOrwegian emigration records when he left. I believe that this is the same Julius. The man who made the original posting is writing a book about people who emigrated from that area of Norway. He would like to include further information on Julius Emil Carlsen in his book.

Julius's birth and parents' information are found on line 11 of this page, a digitised parish record found on a Norwegian genealogy website.

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:NBN:no-a1450-kb20060530070028....

Here is the link to the query site that he has posted, trying to find Julius in America:

http://genforum.genealogy.com/norway/messages/11914.html

It seems you might be able to help him.

Taryn From Minnesota
I've published a website containing my findings of 3 brothers: Anders, Nels F., and Edward W. Lindgren at www.kantack.com/lindgren.

I'd love to know if there are more relatives to the ones that I've found.

Hello, my great grandmother was Edna Lindgren, born in ND in about 1905, Married Harry Katzer (Katzur). Edna's Father was Andrew Lindgren (born Anders Olsson, changed his name when he came to US in 1882) born in Mockfjard, Sweden. Does any of this sound like your Lindgren family? I have a Lindgren Memoirs 1666-1982 It has info from Olof Lindgren's family (Andrew's brother). If you have more info or need more info please contact me.
