Hello,
My name is Robert Besanson.
I don’t know if I can help you or not. I saw two posts online from two different people asking about or posting information about “Al Bessanson, Alphonse Bessanson.” I don’t now if this is the same person you are looking for or not. I’m putting some information in this post and I hope it helps.

I have a great uncle named Alphonse Bessanson. He is the brother of my Grandfather. In my family tree Al is married to Mary Lindner. Mary died on Oct. 7, 1955 and at that time she lived at 11545 Marx, Detroit, Wayne, Michigan.

What I’m going to do is quote three newspaper clippings that are in my grand father’s scrapbook.

Title: Alphonse Bessanson
Alphonse Bessanson 65 of 1191Cooliage passed away Monday at Dearborn Venterans Hostpital. A former residend of Green Bay, Wis.He was a veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife Mart; his mother, Mrs. Mary Bournsville; and six brothers.
The funeral was held from the Girrbach Chapel Wednesday afternoon.
Hand written on the newspaper clipping is: Apr. 20, 1952.

Title: Return From Funeral Services in Detroit
John, Henry and Camile Besanson of Green Bay returned from Detroit, Mich.,here they attented funeral services for their brother Al, who died April 21. The funeral was held Wednesday.
Survivors are his wife Mary; mother Mrs. Mary Bournoville Green Bay, and six brothers, John, Henry and Camile of Green Bay, and William, Frank and Harry, Detroit. The deceased was a veteran of World War I.
Hand written on the newspaper clipping is: Apr. 20, 1952.

Title: Mrs. Al Besanson Succumbs in Detroit
Mrs. Al Besanson, widow of a former Green Bay man, was buried in Detroit, Mich. Monday after her death in a Detroit hospital. Mrs. Besanson’s late husband was a member of Green Bay Battery B, 121st Field Artillery. He died three years ago.
Hand written on the newspaper clipping is: Oct. 7 1955

I hope this information helps. If you have any more info about Mary of Al. Please send it. Thank you!
Bob Besanson

These were the two post I’m referring to.
The first one was on the web site called: The Wartime Memories Project.
The address is http://www.wartimememories.co.uk/answer4.html#bessanson
In this post it ask:
I’ am researching my father, Sgt. Al Bessanson, an U.S. Army Air Corps B-17 tailgunner. I think he may have been held at Stalag 11A. Does anyone have any information or are there any other resources you can point me to?
Janet E. Chanay (Bessanson)

The second post I saw was on ancestry.com posted by: Lindner of OH, IN
http://boards.ancestry.com/surnames.lindner/91.1.1.1/mb.ashx
Her post said:
My grandmothers maiden name was Mary Lindner, her sisters name was Catherine. Mary married 1)William Myers and had 2 children 2)Alphonse Bessanson. Catherine married Osborne Donovan. Mary was born in 1888 and Catherine was born in 1890. This is all the information I have at the moment so if anyone can give me any help I would appreciate it.
I looked up John's children. There were two daughters. One was my grandmother Amelia Margaret, and the other we only know as Fannie who dissapeared from the census, was not remembered by her nephew, and who we assumed died in Ohio. She was born in Missouri in 1857. The other three children were boys. The children were born between 1857 and 1865,

Ralph McGrew

I do not know the answer to that. There is no indication in census etc, or in family tradition that John had any relatives here. That would not eliminate the possibility, but I just do not know.
John was the least known but probably most adventurous member of the family. I don't know when he came to the U.S. from Germany, but by 1857, he was living in Saint Joseph Missouri. Things were pretty wild there at that time. With the coming onset of the Civil war, John with two children, Fannie and William, moved to Ohio. On 27 May 1861, John elisted in the Union Army, joining the 109th Ohio Infantry, company H. This was an all German unit formed in Cincinnati, which was involved in some of the most fierce fighting of the war, including the battles of Chickamauga and Missionary Ridge. He was a corporal when he enlisted then promoted to Full Sergeant. He mustered out on Nov of 1863.

He must have been home for a while periodically though because he had a daughter, Amelia Margaret Lindner born in Ohio 9 apr 1862.

After the way, in 1865 he moved his whole family william, Louis and Joseph. , minus Fannie who I believed passed away as no one mentions her, to Chicago Illinois. where he worked as a paper carrier and a book agent.

Louis Lindner, New York

A friend of mine is trying to trace a great grandfather whose last name was either Linder or Lindner. He had a son named Milton who was born in 1915 in New York City. From examining census records, I have a theory that the Great Grandfather may be a Louis Lindner who married an Esther Goldstein in NYC in 1913. This may be a bad guess, but I'm hoping to hear from descendants of this couple in order to help me clarify this possibility.

The John Linder I am searching for was born around 1829 and came to St. Clair Co., IL, married Kunigunda? and after her death in 1860 he married Cordula Schmitt. I have no info on his death, but possibly Cordula died 1898 in Lebanon, IL. I am searching for information on them and their descendants. Some of their children were Appolonia (Abelonia), George and Michael who settled in St. Louis, Conrad in Jarvis twp., Madison, Co., IL, Henry and Louis in the Trenton/New Baden, IL area and Elizabeth who married Joseph C. Huber and lived in O'Fallon, IL. Is this the family you are searching for and can you give me any additional information?

Children Listed: Edward, 32; Rachel, 24 (which is an 8 yr. gap) Max 22; Jennie 19; Nathon 19-twins; Lena 16; Bessie 14. I am trying to establish that Charles Lindner was between Rachel and Edward and maybe a Sarah Lindner. If anyone has any information it would be appreciated. Sounds like your Barney Lindner is another Lindner or later Lindner. Jean Lindner Steuart

Bob,

I apologize. I confused your information with Jonna's and, further, my previous reply to you was based on the location of Leuchtenburg instead of Leuchtenberg. Mea culpa.

Mary Ann is correct: your Leuchtenberg is just 8 miles from Waldthurn in the Oberpfalz district of Bavaria. A nice fit. As is their being Catholic. Sorry about the mixup.

Norm

Thank you for confirming that it was a part of the former Duchy. It's been awhile since I looked. I knew it was not in the current Kreis Altenburger-Land, but in a nearby Kreis. I wasn't sure how far the Duchy had extended.

My previous message was to C. Lindner, grandchild of John Alvin Lindner & Donna McElrone from Rhinelander. My first message in this thread is authored by "Margaret".

John is a descendent of Gottlob Heinrich Lindner and Augusta Kerber (aka Gustina). They came from Sachsen-Altenburg. GH and Gustina arrived with four grown children in 1857. They settled in northern Town of Calumet, Fond du Lac county, Wisconsin.

Both John Alvin Lindner and Bertha Lindner Christenson are descended from GH's son Gottlob.

I don't know if we have a family connection, but there is a decade and location in common.

My LINDNERs immigrated in 1857. I'm uncertain if it were in a group or separately.

Gottlob Heinrich LINDNER and his wife Justine (aka Gustina) KROEBER and their grown children Michael, Gottlob, Valentin, and Marie (Christian RUDOLPH) immigrated in 1857. Other children were born to the couple according to the Lumpzig church records but I have no indication that they came.

In Michael's and Gottlob's families there are stories that they first stayed in St.Louis, MO, before settling in Wisconsin. But by 1860 census they have bought farms and are living in Wisconsin.

The family(ies) came from Sachsen Altenburg though a census or two does say Bavaria. However, it is possible that Gottlob's wife Fredericke Caroline SPIEGEL actually might have been born in Bavaria. Gottlob and Caroline were married in the Gera church and Gottlob was living in Ronneburg, Kreis Greiz.

I'm looking for information/descendents for Robert Ivory LINDNER, born in Plainfield, Waushara, Wisconsin. He died in Riverside county, CA. He was the son of Edward Alvin LINDNER and Grace D BERRY.

Sometime after 1930 he moved from Port Edwards, WI to La Crescenta, CA. According to a 1946 news item in the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune he had a son named Don.

Anything would be appreciated. An obit would be awesome.

I see no family relation between the LINDNER families in this thread so far and mine. However there is apparently a connection to St.Louis.

In 1857 the LINDNER and RUDOLPH families emigrated from modern day Thuringia to Wisconsin. But at least some of them claim to have stopped first in St. Louis.

>Gottlob Heinrich LINDNER (1795-1865) and his wife Justine/Gustine KROEBER (1810-1886). From Kleintauscha, Sachsen-Altenburg
>Michael LINDNER (1818-1877) and wife Agnes Emilie DEMLER (1835-1902)
>Gottlob LINDNER (1822-1907) and his wife Fredericke Caroline SPIEGEL (1821-1896) from Ronneburg
>Valentin LINDNER (1826-1900)
>Maria LINDNER (1833-1922) and husband Christian RUDOLPH (1831-1890)
Michael, Gottlob (Jr) and Maria had small children.

Some of them may have come over in the Neptune (from Bremen to Baltimore), arriving on June 8, 1857.

Gottlob Heinrich bought a farm in Wisconsin 4 Sept 1857 and appears on the 1860 census there.
Michael bought a farm in Wisconsin June 06, 1858, but I couldn't find him in the 1860 census there. Two of his sons may have been enumerated with their grandfather there.
Gottlob's family (with 2 extra sons) is enumerated in Wisconsin in 1860 with his parents (GH and Gustina) and brother Valentin.
Marie's husband bought a farm in Wisconsin also on Sept.4.1857. They are enumerated there in 1860.

Gottlob Heinrich had at least one other son (Christian Herrmann, b.1821) who may have stayed behind in Germany.

There is a story in the descendents of Michael and Gottlob that the family stayed in or around St. Louis for a couple of years before settling in Wisconsin. Possibly with a SCHLUCHTER family.

I'd love confirmation (or rejection) of this story if anyone comes across it while researching Lindners in Missouri.

Don't think we have a connection, but in seasrching, you never know! So....I also found an 1880 Census from Cook County Chicago, Illinois with Barney and Floria Lindner.
Family stories with some research say that a Nathon, Bessie and a Mary were thought to be sibs of Charles Lindner who married Francis Erdenberger in Prairie duChien,
Wisconsin. I believe that Al, is a family name; passed on to each generation, as my Great Uncle Al Lindner was my Grandfather, Edward Aaron Lindner's, brother. Charles' parents or parent arrived in New York from Germany and moved to Chicago in abut 1864-74. I am searching for Charles Lindner's parents names and sibs. Charles was born in 1853 in New York, we think. Jean Lindner Steuart

I do not believe there is a connection. But: Charles Lindner (b. 1853) married Francis Erdenberger in Pairie duChien, Wisconsin about 1874. They had 14/15 children. However, I am trying to locate Charles Lindner's parents and family. They arrived in NY, from Germany as young parents and Charles was born in New York..so we think. Two of his sibs names were; Nathon, Bessie and we think a Mary. Don't know parents names or rest of sibs..or even if he arrived with just a mother and was born in Germany? The family? moved from New York to Chicago sometime in 1860-70. If you run into anything with these names, let me know. Jean LIndner Steuart

We have an Emma Lindner b. Nov. 28, 1890 with her twin brother, Adolpf Lindner. This was on the Erdenberger Update: boog101@aol.com. If this is accurate, her parents were Charles Lindner and Francis Erdenberger Lindner. I am searching for Charles Lindner's parent/s who may have arrived in New York sometime around 1858-1865? We believe them to be of the Jewish faith and employment might have been cigarmakers. Do you have any information about Emma's parents. Charles was also Deputy Sheriff in Prairie DeChen, ILL. I personally have an article on his injury with a crowd and Wild Bill Cody in ILL. Let me know if any of this sounds fammiliar. Jean

John Frederick Lindner

I am looking for info re my great-grandfather, John Frederick Lindner, b. Stuttgart, Germany in 1951. He and his mother, Friedericka (Rachel?) Lindner (maiden name possibly Gerlach)immigrated to USA via Quebec and Detroit sometime before 1860. Friedericka was from Wuttemberg, b. 1813, widowed, and was an indentured cook for the George Rhodius family and hotel in Indianapolis, IN until her death in 1875. Fred Lindner then moved west to Malta and Leadville, CO; later to White Oaks & Kingston, NM; finally to Douglas, AZ, where he died in 1931. No other info about these Lindner ancestors has been found and I am unsure how to find info in Germany.

Any info or suggestions will be very much appreciated.
Donna White
Arthur's middle inial of F, "Fredrick" sounds like the Charles "Karl" Lindner Family, but can't prove it. He could be a brother to Charles "Karl", born in Germany about 1825? Just know nothing, yet! Jean

Re: Lindner in New Minden, IL and St. Louis, MO

Hi Norm,

My information comes from a beautiful family "Lindner" tree that my Great Aunt and a German national cousin compiled many years ago (pre-1960).

In answer to your question, the Lindner's may have joined with the Malzer clan. On the Lindner side were many butcher's by trade, whereas the Malzer's were teachers. The family as I can much as I can relate are devote Catholic, altho this may have been influenced by the Malzer's.

Great-Grandfather, Josef (Seth) Lindner, b. 1858 Leuchtenberg, married Barbara Malzer, b. 1868 Lindnermuhle. Both immigrated to Clifton Springs, NY; were married in the local Catholic church in Clifton Springs and had eight children. It's been noted that Grandma Barbara Lindner spoke "hi" German, whereas Grandpa Seth spoke "low" German and once settled in the U.S., Grandma refused to speak German, nor did they teach their children German.

I currently correspond with cousins who reside in Waldau (Waldthurn), but they are on the Malzer side. I understand the Baierls were farmers and were also from the Leuchenburg area.

As a note on my family tree, it specifies Leuchenburg as the "Lindner birthplace".

I did mail a copy of both my charts to Horst Lindner in his attempt to compile as much information on the Lindner family as possible. I am under the assumption that many of the towns listed in the chart are pre-WWI/WWII era and may have changed names or districts.

Sincerely,
Bob

Lindner List needs new Administrator

Please help! I am writing for Robert Langford, the administrator of the LINDNER list. Because of illness, he is no longer able to administer the list and has asked me to see if one of the list members would be willing to take over the administration of the list.

If no one can step forward, the list will be orphaned. The Lindner list would still function on its own, but it would not have the personal attention that is often needed and that is provided by the administrator.

Please check the rootsweb mailing list site for the duties of an administrator.

http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/listadmins/index.html

If you are able to administer the list, please contact me at the following address:

wallen@pipeline.com

Thanks very much.

Mary Ann Lindner Allen
