Max Gardner Lineberry

June 8, 1920 - April 23, 2005

Max Gardner Lineberry born June 8, 1920 to the late John Wesley Lineberry and Ida Matthews in Yadkin County, NC. He was the third child of four children, two brothers, Leek Lineberry (deceased) and William P. Lineberry (deceased), and one sister, Fannie Lineberry Adams of Winston-Salem, NC.

On Jan. 28, 1942, Max enlisted in the US Army and entered into the Quarter Master Division. He spent 3 years in Panama during WWII. On Sept. 19, 1945, he was honorably discharged with the rank of T/5 (Staff Sargent).

In 1947, Max moved to Sanford, NC, where he was employed by Sanford Furniture Factory and farmed. In May of that same year, he met his beloved wife, Ruby Holt, daughter of James and Lina Holt. They married on May 8, 1948 and together had five children, four daughters; Brenda A. Lineberry of New Bern, NC, Dorothy Lineberry Winiavski of Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, Vanessa Lineberry Wolford of Hertford, NC, and Betty Sue Lineberry (deceased), one son; Max Herbert Lineberry of Bolivia, NC. They also have wight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

In 1961, Max and his family moved to Brunswick County, NC. There he farmed for a living until 1965 when he was employed by the International Longshoreman Association in Southport, NC. On June 8, 1985 he retired from the ILA Local 1838.

On April 26, 2005, Max was laid to rest in the Cape Fear Memorial Park in Southport, NC.
