Hi Jerry!

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you.

My data has Joseph L. Lines (B. 25 Sep 1833) son of Joseph L. Lines and Elizabeth Peoples. He married Sara M. Kirk (another source says Ellen Eliza Kirk). I wonder if your “Matilda” could have been her middle name?

My limited information for Nathaniel indicates he was born in 1757 and died in 1814 in Nittany Valley, Centre county, PA. His wife was Sara and he had four sons: William, Samuel, Joseph & Isaac.

His son Joseph (I have him born in 1797) is my 3rd Great Grandfather.

If you send me your email address to RicksGenealogy@Gmail.com I can send you more detailed info.

I would be most interested in the copies of Wills you mention and happy to share what I have.

Thanks for your reply.

Best regards,

Rick

Lines family of Indiana

I am looking for information on the family of Lulu P. Lines, she would be my g-grandmother. She was born 16 Sep 1884 in Howard county, IN. Death 15 May 1926 in Greentown, IN. She married Theodore Estle David (sometimes known as Estle David (born 10 May 1887, died 1 Mar 1934) on 30 Sep 1904 and had 4 children, Harry David (1905), Hazel David (1909), Mary David (1914) and my grandmother June R. David (1926). These dates are correct verified by obits I have personally and tombstones in the Greenlawn cemetery in Greentown, IN.

From the birth record I have found her parents were William Lines born in Ohio and Alice Sprunce Lines born abt 1862 in Indiana. She lived with an Aunt Mary Sprunce in 1900 according to the 1900 Census.

The only information I can find on Alice Sprunce is that in the 1880 census she was a servant in the E.W. Sawyer household. On that census it states her parents were both born in Ohio.

If anyone has any information on either this Lines or Sprunce family from Indiana please contact me. There may also be a Dolly in one of these families. My grandmother had an Aunt Dolly that left her some money, however I do not know which side the aunt was from or what her last name was.
Re: Lines in Florida around 1840?

For the record:

Joseph Robinson Lines, born 1828, first married Eliza Frances DePont, b. 20 Nov 1832, in 1851. Eliza died within months of the marriage, on 11 Dec. 1851. Joseph then married her sister, Mary Ann DuPont, b. 28 May 1836, on 31 Jan 1854.
Mary Ann was the mother of Joseph's children.

Mary Ann DuPont Lines lived for decades, dying on 4 Jan 1918. At various times, she raised/cared for/fostered a variety of children of her siblings.

I can tell you, but I will have to find the copies of the letters, that she kept up a correspondence with Frank Harris at least until the 1880s. Longer than than, I think, but I really don't remember dates on that.

I do seem to recall that she stayed in contact with him after she moved to Jacksonville and he moved to the Ocala area, but I don't remember specifics, sorry.

Also, Elizabeth Lines married a Hills and he died within a year of the marriage, I believe, before she married Benjamin Hawley.

You may have this information already. But in case you don't, or for the benefit of someone else, here's what I have on the family. We are researching our Harrises, and we still aren't clear on what family or social connections helped Frank Harris and his brother Alexander Ewing Harris get taken in by the Poindexters.

John Lines m. Sarah Ann Robinson, d/o Jonathan Robinson, 23 Nov 1814
Children:
1. Sarah Jane Lines m. John Wise Goldwire Jr.
------- 1. Robert L. Goldwire - b. Sep 1843
------- 2. John Wise Goldwire III - b. Apr 1846
------- 3. Laura Goldwire - b. Apr 1847
------- 4. Charlton Goldwire - b. 23 Mar 1849
------- 5. Lillian Jane Goldwire - b. Abt 1852 m. Dr. William James Berry Harrell M.D. (mayor of Bainbridge, GA) in 1871 and m. Clifford Lucius Green in 1887
------- 6. William Eada Goldwire - Mar 1854
2. Harriet Lines - b. abt 1828, m. Col. John W. Poindexter CSA (d. in the War)
------- 1. Walter Poindexter - abt 1844
(took in orphaned Lillian Jane Goldwire and Francis Eppes "Frank" Harris; the other orphaned Goldwire children were taken in by their grandmother, Sarah Ann Robinson Lines)
m. Dr. B. Gresham 1865
3. Joseph R. Lines - b. abt 1833, m. Mary A.H. __________
4. J. Lawrence Lines
5. Eloise A. Lines m. Henry D. Darden
6. Elizabeth Lines m. Benjamin S. Hawley
two more Lines children, died young

Much information from a nasty lawsuit over Jonathan Robinson's will, as Sarah Ann Robinson Lines was his only child and heir:
Florida reports, Volume 5
by Florida Supreme Court pp. 51-82
TERM AT TALLAHASSEE - 1853
SARAH H.
I suspect there are too many william lines clouding the issue here.

I've found the death ok, so had a look at the 1901 census. There's a William O Lines age 33 Foreman at Saw Mills living at 1a Gilbert St, Lambeth. It's not totally out of the question that it's the same guy even with the 5 year age discrepancy. Maybe the 'O' explains the theory of being Irish. Not sure about this at all - will do some more digging

C

Hi this is all he sent me if it helps.

Hi Colin, I have been trying to find out about my granddad who was found drowned in the river Thames under Blackfriars bridge on December 7th 1908. He lived in Long Lane Southwark and his name was spelled as William Lines which is the correct spelling, mine got altered to Lyons in the thirty's, I don't know why. I cant go back any further, but Linda said that you now had a better search facility which could possibly come up with an Obituary for him, this could say perhaps that he may have been Irish. I now have his death certificate but there is no real information on it. It simply says William Lines age 36 found drowned in Thames at Blackfriars. and his address in London where my family originally came from.

Grateful if you can do a search for me. seeya, Ken.

Colin

I will recheck the records to make sure of the initials...and hope he spelled the name out. I will also write the Episcopal archivist in Texas for more information. Will get back to you. Possibility.

Lines Family in The Clearfield Republican Newspaper (1852-1865)

I recently found an amazing source of Clearfield county Pennsylvania history and a little genealogy data on the Lines family as well as many others.

This resource is available through the PA-Roots web site at the link below.

You'll find there nine issues of the Clearfield Republican Newspaper transcribed and available on-line, or in a downloadable and searchable PDF file for nine years spanning 1852 through 1865.

Numerous entries can be found for births, marriages and deaths as well as other interesting news stories from that period on many Clearefdield area families.

In reviewing all the issues I found mention of just three different Lines individuals as follows ...

“Married on the 29th ult., by Rev. John Flegal, Mr. William Lines to Miss Mary Ann Bloom.” (September 3, 1852 Issue)

“Married on the 29th of March, by L. Flegal, Esq., Mr. Elias Lines to Miss Margaret Bogle, both of Brady township.” (April 15, 1863 Issue)

“Died in Brady township, on the 17th instant, H. Sterns, son of Jesse and Lavina Lines, aged 18 years and 5 months.” (April 26, 1865 Issue)

Hope this helps someone in their research.

http://www.pa-roots.com/index.php/clearfield-county/167-clea...

Re: Mary Lines/Oliver B. York early-mid 1800's

I believe I just discovered that this Mary York was sister of my GGGgrandmother Harriet L Fitch. Here is the Obituary I found and transcibed it mentions family members and place of birth for Harriet.

Mrs. J. O. Fitch

Mrs Harriett Fitch, wife of Julius O. Fitch, of whom mention was made in the COURIER last as reviving after death was supposed to have occurred, died Thursday, April 30, at her home, No. 115 Turin Street, Rome, in her 64th year. The cause of death was cancer of the stomach. She had been sick and confined to her bed about three months, and Saturday afternoon, April 25, was laid out for dead, but subsequently opened her eyes and revived, took nourishment, recognized those who were present and apparently was improving quite rapidly. Later, however, she had several hemorrhages of the stomach, and finally expired. Twenty-five years ago she had cancers taken from her right breast and arm, after which she enjoyed good health up to her last sickness. She was born in Brooklyn, Pa. She was married in 1848 at Brookfield and resided in the town and ten years ago, shen with her husband she moved to Rome. She was an active and prominent member of the Free Methodist church, and her life was characterized by her great religioius zeal and many Christian virtues, which she brought into daily use. She leaves, besides her husband, four sons---L. M. Fitch, of Rome; E. R. Fitch, of East Hamilton; F. E. Fitch, who is pastor of the Free Methodist church at Oneida, and J. Fred Fitch, an attorney and counselor, who formerly resided in Rome, but is now practicing his profession at Tacoma, Washington. She also leaves one brother, Charles Lines, of Pennsylvania, and four sisters, Mrs O. B. York, of Brookfield; Mrs Charles West of Windsor; mrs. J. White, of Ioina, Mich.; and Mrs. Elvina Hicks, of new York. The remains were brought to Brookfield Saturday night, and the funeral was largely attended from the Baptist church Sunday morning, Rev. mr. Stover, of Rome, preaching the funeral address. He was assisted in conducting the services by Rev. A. L. York. The remains were laid at rest in the village cemetery by the side of those of Mr. Fitch's first wife.

Let me know if you have any further information on the LINES family. Looking at census records it appears that Joseph Lines of Brooklyn, PA 1830 to 1860 census records may be her father.

Mary Jane Kersey born 4 jul 1835 in KY, died 10 Jan 1901 of cancer in Marion County Center Township Indianapolis she was buried in Crown Hill Cemetery on 12 Jan 1901.

Her Husband is Jacob Voorhees born 13 Apr 1935 in Indianapolis, died 17 Dec 1915 of Dilatation of Heart in Marion County Center Township Indianapolis and is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery.

I know of a daughter, who is my great great grandmother, Missouri Voorhees born 6 May 1907 in Indianapolis and died 3 May 1907 in Indianapolis. She was married to Bertram Poole, he purchased the cemetery plot on the 6th of May 1907, he is not buried there but there is a woman named Emily J. Poole who was born 14 July 1847 in Ohio and died 6 Mar 1909 of cancer. I am going to assume that she is the mother of Bertram. There is a notation on the burial ledger that leads me to believe that Bertram was possibly buried in Memphis, TN 9/28? Also on file is Affidavit of Heirship of Bertram Poole (deceased), dated 17 May 1940 by Laura Ellen Poole. This states that the following persons are legal heirs of Bertram. Frank S. Poole (son), Vora Poole Day (daughter)she is my great grandmother and Don Edward Poole (grandson, minor).

Looking for information on Bertram and his parents along with any information concerning his son and grandson listed.

Looking for information on Jacob Voorhees. Listed with him and Mary Jane in same burial plot is the following
Clara B Voorhees
Cory Ann Voorhees
Mary Kersey
Elisha Kersey
Mary F Cropper
Albert Lines
Coryden Berham Hartman
Cora Voorhees

Any information would be of great help.

I have your inquiry about, William S Lines in my tree, "TACKETT,BARNETT,LINES,ETC". This is what I have. William S. Lines, B 8 Mar 1837 in New York to, John and Mary LINES. John and Mary LINES were from England. There were many John and Mary LINES, LYONS, etc. William S. was first enumerated in 1850 US Fed Census for Jeffersonville, Clark Co., Indiana. He was next enumerated in the US Census for, Bentley, Perry, Arkansas. This is where he met his future wife, Almedia BROWN. He and Almedia were later married in, New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana on 28 Dec 1870. Three children were born to that marriage: Hannah Eliza 1871-1913, Nellie Lines (my Grandmother) 1874-1897 and William E. Lines 1877-1963. William S. LINES was a Sheet Metal Worker and a Farmer. William S. LINES died of Phneumonia in New Albany, Floyd Co., Indiana on 3 Jun 1883. I have never come accross the names of your grandparents, Oliver Perry LINES or Lillian Belle MURPHY.

William J.
Re: Lines/Lyons

My husband's family comes from Stewart and Martha Givens Lyons. They are in the 1870 & 1880 Census. One of the sons was William W. Lyons until 1902. That is when his son, Raymond was born. At that time the spelling became Lines. All of his other children were named Lyons. Why? We have not been able to figure it out.
