Jim was a decorated career Marine and was in the battle at the Inchon Reservoir in North Korea. This was a major battle, but he survived and was brought back to the states. During his last tour of duty, he taught recruits math at Ft. Ord, California..he retired after +/- 25 years and bought a business in Riverton Wyoming. I believe it was a “truck stop”. He is buried in Riverton…..

James married another woman and had two sons (Bret and Bart). James was killed in a hunting accident. The story I heard was he leaned his loaded gun against his truck and his hunting dog tried to jump in the truck knocking over the gun and it fired killing Jim.

WHY FRED SLEIGHT's FAMILY USES THAT SPELLING

Per Fred Sleight's family, when they moved to Idaho a teacher at the school there told them a slate was something you wrote on and their name was spelled Sleight. Since they did not read and write, the family put that spelling on the school records and therefore Fred and Maud's children all have the SLEIGHT spelling.

Thelma, this is not my line, so I don't have much info, but I am happy to share what I have. John A. Lingo, son of Wm & Susannah, born abt. 1776 probably DE, moved to Cumberland Co., MD and was there in 1810. Had 2 sons: 1.name unknown lived in Uniontown, PA. 2. William H. C. Lingo, born 1802, died 1842 in Lebanon, OH and has many descendants in OH, PA, MO & TX.

I wish I could tell you the exact source of this info, but since it wasn't my own line I wasn't careful in noting the source, but it may have been in the book on the Taliferro family because they married into this Lingo family.

I also have in my notes on this line that there is a family historian who believes the father of William (John A. and Elijah's father) was John Richard Lingo born Ireland who came from Ireland about 1750 to Lewiston, DE. Also believes that John Richard's family came from Italy to Ireland about 1600.

I have no idea if this info is accurate--I did not check on any of it since it wasn't my family.

My line starts with James Lingo, born abt 1748 Worcester Co., MD, wed Catherine/Caty, lived in Essex Co., VA at time of Rev. War, served in 7th VA Reg & died 1781 at the Siege of Ninety-Six, SC. His son, also James, migrated to KY then MO then IL and is my ancestor.

I have been researching Lingo's for 30 years. Although yours is not my line, I have accumulated notes about others to help me sort them out. I don't have many sources for you, only an entry in my notes, but they are all from actual records and not just someone's claim in their family tree. I have these with GA connections:
*William Lingo married Susannah Welcher in Wilkes Co., GA 1/16/1796.
*Moses Lingo received 2 Cherokee land grants in GA.
*William Lingo, b. c1753 Lewiston DE, marr 1773 Susannah ___ and d. after Oct. 1, 1826 Maury Co., TN. Susannah b. c1763, d. after Oct. 1, 1826, probably Maury Co., TN Bounty Land Warrent given Wm 1797 for service as Pvt. in DE line; enlisted at Lewiston, DE. Application for Rev War pens made 10/1/1826 Maury Co. at age 73, wife about 63.
Wm & Susannah said to have had children Elijah & John A. Elijah was b. 1774 Lewiston, DE, d. 1830 GA. Moved to Cumberland, MD then in 1793/94 to Wilkinson Co. GA. Married there Mary Harding Taliaferro. In Indian War or War of 1812. She outlived him and moved to Clopton, AL. They had children: Wm (marr Margaret in 1819); Behethland (marr. Berryman); Eliza (marr 1. Rogers 2. Lofton); Richard Taliaferro; Martha; John Richard Taliferro; Mary (marr Haren); Patsey; Elijah; Taliaferro; Nancy; Lucy Ann (marr Lewis Solomon). Note that this information is probably all from a book on the Taliferro family I found in the LDS catalog. It comes up in the catalog when you search on "Lingo".
Most of the Lingo's in America trace back to the Del-Mar-VA region, arriving in the 1600's, Scotch-Irish in ethnicity.

She died Dec. 31 1975. Zada is the ggg grandaughter of Obediah Lingo b1766 and Mary Tilghman. Obediah is the son of Unicy Fooks Lingo b1741. I have the original hand written document that deeds the land for a cememtery for the Lingo family, drawned up by Obediah.

Fabius was born 1844/45 in Iowa Township, Washington Co., IA. He was the son of James and Elizabeth Lingo, who had moved to Iowa from Ohio in 1838 and settled in that county in 1841. Fabius appears on the tax rolls for Iowa Township in 1865. He married Mary Ann Thrapp in Washington Co. in 1867. I don't know his whereabouts after that time. (He does not appear in the Washington Co. Cemetery records.) Can you provide more information on that?

Fabius' three brothers who were living at the time of the Civil War all enlisted in the 22nd Iowa Infantry in 1862. Only one, Milton, survived the war. Fabius did not serve.

Jeffry

William Lingo and Susannah Welcher--Need Clarification Please

The "Georgia Marriages to 1850" states that William Lingo and Susannah Welcher married on 16 Jan 1796 in Wilkes Co., GA. If this is so, Susanah could not be the mother of Elijah who was born abt. 1774 in DE. Anyone with thoughts or ideas on this? Any response is welcome. Just trying to sort through my records.

Thanks in advance,
Robin

I have just found out more information on him (besides the bits and pieces) through a geneology research service as Doris would not talk about James. His daughter/my mother, Kathy, never knew much about him because of this. Can anyone give me more information? It has been such a long time to get here.
