thought I would drop in and let everyone
know (for those who don't already) that I
publish a quarterly newsletter, The Linscott
Herald, with over 50 mailings each month.

Queries are free and I will publish any that
are sent to me. I mention this because a good
number of my subscribers do not own a
computer and therefore will not know about
your queries unless contacted in a way such

Just found this board...am looking for information on Almira Linscott, my great, great, grandmother. She was daughter of Asa Linscott & Mary Johnson (?). I believe they are descendants of Ichabod Linscott in Maine. Moved with Linscott's to Athens, OH and am curious how they ended up in Indiana. Any help would be appreciated; thank you.

Permelia Linscott (Found) sort of...

Permelia Linscott is on the 1920 census in Looking Glass Twp, Clinton County, Illinois at the age of 17 as the adopted daughter of Henry and Maria Heuberger from Switzerland. They lived and died in Trenton and New Baden and did not have any children naturally. Maria died in 1928 and Henry in 1922. I do not find Permelia anywhere in the 1930 census. She probably married but I cannot find her name anywhere. I am looking into the marriages for that county as my next option.

I'm looking for more on this family group. Clarence marrried Bonna Stutes about 1902. One of their sons - Elmer - married a Cleao Spencer. I'm looking for children, date of marriage, anything. Cleo is my grandfather's brother's daughter and I just found her marriage to Elmer this weekend. If you have any info on her or these people to share, wow, can I share about the Spencers in this area.

Permelia or Amelia Linscott...adopted out

I am looking for information on the whereabouts of Amelia or Permelia Linscott. She was taken into custody by the children's home and aid society in Chicago, IL in 1911 or so. She may have been adopted out. I have a letter stating that she was probably only put into foster care but I cannot find any record of her. She was born in Peoria, IL. She was about 7 years old at the time. She may have been taken back to Peoria County, IL or somewhere else. Any information would be helpful.

Hoping for help on this one - it's been a brick wall for several years. Lived in Milford. NOT the political George P Sewall found so often in this area.
My George was born in New Brunswick on 5 Dec 1819 and Betsey somewhere in Maine on 10 May 1818.

George Shepard Linscott was born on Nov. 4, 1868 in Washington Co., IA. As of 1908, he lived in Holton (Jackson Co.), KS. On Oct. 19, 1908, he joined the Sons of the American Revolution, on behalf of the service of his Revolutionary War ancestors, Samuel Linscott, Andrew Dunning, Jacob Keen, Joshua Sprague, David Hitchcock, and Frederick Sprague.

The last known residence of George Linscott was Leavenworth Co., KS, where he was shown in the 1920 census.

I am seeking his death date/ place and obituary.

Does anyone know why Jeddediah Linscott was part owner of property in Amesville, Athens Co., OH around 1819
with John Swett and John Swett Jr.
Was there a connection between these men? Both John's had land donatated to them, so why were they owners with Jededdiah?
I BELIEVE, BUT IT IS NOT PROVEN that John Swett Jr. was married to Mariam Linscott, daughter of Isaac and Mariam Whitter Linscott. There is a bible record for Polly Lynscott who married John Swett jr, son of John Swett in Marrietta, Washington Co., OH around 1809.
Out of that marriage there was at lease one child, Rosamond Swett. this is from a bible record, I believe they also had another daughter, Hester and a son Isaac W. Swett. I need proof of the parents of Isaac W. Swett born 1811 Ames.OH

John Swett died between 1830 -1840. His name is off the tax records in 1842. Mariam Swett is found on the Ames, Athens Co., OH census 1840. Who is this Mariam Swett, I BELIEVE it is Mariam Linscott because she is listed between Amos and Joseph Linscott.
In 1850 you find a Hester Swett with a female that fits Mariam's age, who is Hester Swett?

It is my understanding that Ralph Linscott was first married to Rose Lee Mayol of which there were two children born of that marriage. He later married Bermi Root. I was given information that there was a child born of that marriage named Rose Marie Linscott, born 7/27/1929 who later married a N.B. Paulsrud. Can anyone confirm that this was in fact a child born from this second marriage? Thanks!

Harold Linscott's book has Mary Linscott, daughter of David and Deborah Orr Linscott, marrying David Dunning in 1813 and then Jesse Hall in 1817. My research indicates there were two Mary Linscotts, one for each groom. However, which Mary was David Linscott and Deborah Orr's daughter? I descend from the David Dunning marriage, so I hope Harold's mix-up goes in my favor. However, I don't have access to Harold's book to look for other unattached Mary's. Please help!

WELLS - Florence E. Linscott, 95, of Sanford Road, passed away quietly surrounded by her family on Jan. 8, 2005 at the home of her great niece and nephew, Robert and Mary Ford Brackley.

She was born Aug. 10, 1909 in North Berwick, a daughter of John and Mary (Sargent) Linscott. She was educated in the North Berwick schools before going to work at the North Berwick Woolen Mill.

She enjoyed life to its fullest.

She was pre-deceased by her brothers and sisters, Roy, George, Ralph and Grace Linscott, Cora Gordon and Eldora Miniutti.

She is survived by her great niece and nephew, Robert and Mary (Ford) Brackley of Wells and their children Sarah Hollins and Megan Robichaud; great niece, Evelyn Ford Lynn and her husband John of Rochester, N.H. and her children, Blaine, Craig and Danny Faulkner, and many other nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by Tyler Robichaud.

Friends who wish may contribute to Home Health Visiting Nurses of Southern Maine, 15 Industrial Rd., Saco, ME 04072. With many thanks to the nurses Ellen and Doris and the staff of York Hospital, and Hospice of Southern Maine.

There will be graveside memorial services in the spring in the Hillside Cemetery, North Berwick, Maine.

Linscott origins in Devon

There is a hamlet (farm and a house or two, as far as I remember) called Linscott about 2 or 3 miles south of Barnstaple, Devon. The ending –cott is extremely common for settlements in that whole area of England: there are scores and scores of them. This must be where the surname originated. My own (mother's) branch of the Linscotts hailed from Lympstone in the south of the county, where they were the millers. (It is/was a water-mill.) Does anyone have any connection with the Lympstone branch?

PITTSFIELD-Roberta F. (Mayotte) Linscott, 64, of Tilton Hill Road, died suddenly yesterday. She was born in Pittsfield, the daughter of Maurice and Thelma (Chagnon) Mayotte. She was a lifelong Pittsfield resident. Linscott enjoyed ceramics and had her own studio, where she taught ceramics for a number of years. She also enjoyed gardening and was an avid Red Sox fan. Survivors included three sons, Keith Linscott of Massachusetts, Robert Linscott Jr. of Tennessee and Kenneth Linscott of Ohio; a daughter, Tina; her parents of Pittsfield; a brother, Francis Mayotte of Pittsfield; a sister, Jo-Anne Sargent of Belmont; four grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 20 Merrimack Street, Suite 1, Manchester 03103. Affordable Funeral and Cremation Services is in charge of the arrangements.

I am trying to ascertain more on an Aunt that is deceased. I would appreciate hearing from old neighbors, friends, classmates and family of hers. I have loving memories of her and I am trying to help a granddaughter learn more on her also.
RUTH LINSCOTT BURRIER of Zanesville, Ohio. Born after 1920. Died in Columbus, Ohio in 1958. She had been married to David Jacob Burrier of Zanesville and they had 5 children. I am in touch with the children of this union. But they were to young when she died to have much information. I BELIEVE that the following were her family, but I have not been able to confirm this yet.
Daughter of Joseph Wm. Parkinson and Emma Lou Wilson was Lula Louisa Mae Parkinson.......she married Ernest Raymond Linscott......they had three children:

I am looking for information on the parents of Eva Linscott, my great-great-grandmother. She was the wife of Steven Keyes of NY, and lived along the Ohio River in the 1840's. Her daughter was Minerva Jane Keyes, b.1843 in Ohio.

Grace and Daniel were married in Mirimichi New Brunswick and emmigrated to Maine
Grace had a sister Jennie and a brother John as well as other siblings. Thier daughter Bessie Mildred Murray was my grandmother. According to her recollections she was 6 when they came to Maine so that would make it about 1892.
Jennie's neices per her obil included Graham, McKay and Boyd mostly in P.E.I.
