Thomas George Linton born in Springsure QLD Australia about 1878. He married Ethel Boyle in 1904. Thomas disappeared presumed dead before the baby, Guy Allan Linton was born 1 April, 1905. Perhaps Thomas didn't die but ran away. Anyone with any info? Anyone know Linton's from QLD?
Family of William M Linton and Mary Williams, Madison Co, OH, 1800/01–1835

Looking for dates associated with the children of William M Linton and Mary Williams. From the "History of Madison County, Ohio" by W. H. Beers and Co., Chicago, 1883, page 724, the following is presented.

“He was the father of eight children--Maria, George, Sarah, Susan, Hannah, Nancy, Betsey and Peggy, all now deceased. Maria married Cyrus Ward; had three children, one only now living--W. Curtis Ward; now freight agent at London; George never married, and resided in this township till his death, in 1876, aged eighty-seven years; Sarah married Archibald Stewart; had two children, one now surviving--Mrs. Rev. James Dunlap, of Springfield, Ohio; Susan married Joseph Pancake, had two children, who are now living--Isaac and Jesse, residents of Illinois; Hannah married Benjamin Walker, by whom she had several children, and all the surviving ones are residents of Iowa; Nancy married William Davis, had six children, and all surviving are residents of Illinois; Betsey married David Dye, had four children, three now survive (David, a resident of Yellow Springs, Ohio; Sarah, now Mrs. Cartmell, residing in Indiana; and George, a resident of Republic, Kan.); Peggy married Lockhart Biggs, had five children, one now survives; William, a resident of Missouri."

My research indicates the following dates associated with the children (in order as listed in above citation):

Maria, b. between 1794 and 1804 (based on Census interpolation); married, July 18, 1837, d. 1852. Based on the date of marriage, she may well have been the youngest child.

George, b. about 1789, d. 1786.

Sarah, birth and death dates not determined. She married August 6, 1812. Census enumeration of her daughter Margaret (Stewart) Dunlap (b. October 9, 1815) indicate Sarah was born in Pennsylvania.

Susan, b. August 30, 1876 in Virginia; d. April 8, 1822. Marriage date unknown, however, first child born, February 19, 1813.

Hannah, b. April 14, 1795 in Virginia; d. March 3, 1853; married October 21, 1819.

Nancy, b. between 1794 and 1804 (based on Census interpolation); married April 6, 1826.

Betsey, b. between 1790 and 1780 (based on Census interpolation); d. about 1835; married February 26, 1811.

Peggy, b. between 1794 and 1804 (based on Census interpolation); d. December 8, 1845; married July 8, 1924.

Any additions, corrections or additional input for any of these individuals will be appreciated.
As you are from the old commonwealth country of
new zealand I suggest that you start digging around
lowland scotland where the name is common in the
area's of peebleshire/lanarkshire/and.renfrewshire.
also if you look into the website of common wealth
graves you will come across a large number of
Lintons from the first world war.
in amongst them are some great uncles of mine.
good luck in your venture. terence.

James Linton

I have information of a James Linton who emigrated to New Zealand in the 1860s from Scotland. He was born in Glenshiel/Kintail Scotland. I have extensive research of the Scottish Highland farming Linton's (originally from Peeblesshire) who have died out in Scotland and would like to make connections with those who emigrated to Canada and New Zealand. Also Simon Linton (a doctor) who emigrated to Portage, USA.

LINTON FAMILY, NEW BRUNSWICK

I am interested in the New Brunswick LINTONS.

My ancestor was James LINTON. He and wife Margaret, and children arrived in Saint John in 1833 on the Brig Madawaska, from Tyrone Co., Ireland. They settled on the Kingston Peninsula at Bayswater, Kings Co. I have history to share.
One other adult came at the same time, WILLIAM. I have now made contact with a "cousin" in Texas; who descends from William. Apparently he and his family went to PENNSYLVANIA. One of his children, Samuel, became a Mormon and gave much information to the LDS.

I would like to connect with the Linton clan who descend from those who came on the Brig Madawaska in 1833, or two other brothers who came earlier. I believe a SAMUEL and a JOHN came a few years earlier and settled perhaps at Summerville, New Brunswick.

William LINTON & wife, Elizabeth m. c. 1824.
The children of WILLIAM LINTON who were born in Saint John, (and later moved to PA) were: Mary Ann Linton have )b. l3 Nov 1833, William Linton Jr. 21 Sept. 1836, Josiah Selfridge Linton, 24 June 1840, John S. Linton, 16 Jun 1842, Elizabeth Linton 6 Jan 1845, and James S. Linton, 28 April 1848. Other children were born in Ireland; one, Margaret, b Tyrone, Ireland , 2 Aug 1925. may have remained in New Brunswick and m. a John MCGLINCHEY.(b about 1812)/

Would appreciate any info on the above.

Barbara (Linton) Craig

I am looking for information about the parents and siblings of Hannah White (b. abt 1800 in VA or MD). She was married 23 April 1818 to Levi Linton, in Jefferson Co., Ohio. I know the names of several of their children, suspect several others and have a couple of missing names. I am certain or close to certain of Edward, Ruth, Sarah E. Margaret, Levi Jr., Amanda and Harriet. In earlier census records, several other unidentified children are shown. I suspect they may be James, Mariah and/or Mary, and two other unknown female children. I would welcome information about any of these individuals and am happy to share.

I am looking for information on the Linton line coming to Savannah from Alabama around 1900. Specifically, James Eugene Linton was born in Alabama Dec. 9, 1874. He was the son of William R. Linton and Elizabeth Bowen. I have been unable to find William or Elizabeth in a Census and am not sure if they moved to Georgia as well. James Eugene Linton married Emma Tillman about 1900.

A response from anyone familiar with this family would be greatly appreciated.

Photo was taken in about 1870s, in Edgerton (Rock Co.) WI, and she looks to be about age 25.

I found Mary A. Linton in the 1900 census for Rock Co., WI. Her father Elbertus G. Snell was listed as father in law, in the home of Jasper Linton (Dec 1842), and his wife Mary A. Linton (March 1850). Her father’s DOB is listed as Dec 1814 in CT. Jasper and Mary had two sons, ages 22 and 14.

Get back to me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Mary Snell Linton.

William (1861 - 1934) and Susan Rice (1887 - 1961) were my great grandparents, mother of Rosanna Linton,(Rose's Diner, Elkton, MD), my grandmother.

I have that William's parents are John Linton and Nancy ____. Susan's parents are Thomas Rice and Margarite Burgin; she is from Holland.

William's first wife was Nancy Weir.

Anyone have anything else to tag onto this?
Lintons of Jefferson Co., Ohio and Maryland

There are several Linton individuals that I cannot positively link to any of the specific Linton families of Jefferson Co., Ohio. I believe that they must be related, since they lived in such close proximity to one another, and interacted with one another. There are a number of unidentified individuals shown as children in the pre-1850 Linton homes. Some that I am uncertain of are Ralph Linton; Samuel Linton; George Linton; Sally Linton, who married William Hays; Catherine Linton, who married Joseph Burwell. The families of brothers Benjamin Linton (b. Feb. 1804, in Brooke Co., W.V.) who married Anna Dean, Otho Linton (b. abt 1802 in MD or Brooke Co. W.V.) who married Nancy Newhouse are quite well known. The childen of another brother Levi (b/ 1796 in Frederick Co., MD) are partially known. Could some of these individuals be siblings of Levi Linton and his brothers? (I know there were several sisters including Elizabeth, Beggy, and Rachael).

Who was John Linton of England (b. 1721-22, d. 12 Mar 1782)?

Am seeking any info on John Linton of England, b. 1721-22, d. 12 March 1782, who had commissioned a gold Mourning Ring commemorating him upon his death. My research to date has produced no information on who this particular John Linton was or where he lived and died.

Here are what few facts I do have. For the past 7 generations on the maternal side of my family a gold English Mourning Ring with the engraved inscription "John Linton obt. 12 Mar 1782 died at 60." on the underside of the ring's top has been passed down to the eldest daughter of each generation of the family. The earliest known recipient of the ring was Ann Thornton Hart: b. 1817-1822. Ann brought the ring to the USA in 1852 when she, her children and husband, Thomas Hart, immigrated to the Galena, IL area. Ann then passed the ring on to her 12yr. old daughter, Louise Hart. Louise Hart Willis was born in Somersetshire in 1839. Nothing else is known at this time regarding where the Harts and Thortons came from, or what their relationship might have been to John Linton.

Certainly would like to learn more about John Linton and the ring's earlier history. Can anyone help? If you have any info that might prove helpful to my search, please contact me at sammykailey@yahoo,com

Thank you. Regards - Bill

Edward was born approx.1914 based upon my father in law's birth certificate and his mother Julia as born approx. 1917/8. I have been unable to link them together or find any evidence of their deaths. The only connection I have been able to make is Edward Lee being the son of James Eugene Linton. Does anyone have any information which might help me connect them to the correct Linton lineor to each other? I would greatly appreciate any suggstions or information. Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

Would love to know what became of the Linton family back in England. :)

Edward LINTON c.1828 Liverpool, England, married Theresa Mary FOYE c.1834 Wigan (near Liverpool) England.

Edward & Theresa LINTON had 5 children that I know of:

1. Peter - c.1855
2. Francis Edward c.1860
3. Elizabeth Theresa c.1862 - m. poss Thomas ROBERTS
4. Theresa Anne c.1865 - m. Frederick BACK
5. Robert James c.1868

Theresa Anne & her sister, Elizabeth Theresa sailed to Queensland, Australia in 1882.

I haven't been able to find Edward LINTON & Theresa Mary FOYE's marriage.

It's possible that Theresa Foye may have been married to a Mr Jackson before Linton. :)

I have the family in the 1881 English census, but could not confirm them in the 1901 Census.

Sherrie.
www.silkweb.com.au
I am searching for information on the Linton and Phillips families of Fauquier Co. VA. Most of the following information from a family member is undocumented:

Fielding Phillips married Nancy Linton on 17 Feb 1790 in Fauquier Co. Va. (This is documented in "Fauquier Families, 1759-1799").

Fielding Phillips' father was Henry Phillips. Nancy Linton's parents were George and Nancy Linton.

The children of Fielding Phillips and Nancy Linton were:

Elizabeth b. 19 Dec 1790 m. Luthor Pryor (son of John Pryor and Margaret Garvin)
William b. 15 June 1792 m. Sarah (or Nancy) Pryor)
George b. 15 Jan 1794 m. Mary Mahala Gregg and Mahala Eweres
Nelson b. 17 June 1796 m. Elizabeth Boyd
Barnett b. 4 April 1798 m. Rhoda Ward
Sarah b. 1800 m. Joel Millison
Alcinda b. 1803 m. Enoch Burns
Emily b. 20 June 1808 m. Samuel Russell
Evaline b. 1810 m. Jesse Boyd
Nancy m. Jonas Groves

George, Nelson, and Barnett Phillips subsequently moved to Belmont Co. Ohio. Fielding Phillips also may have died in Belmont Co. Ohio

Thank you.

Ron Bloch
Mrs. Linton, Washington, Pa.

A pair of antique photo albums in my collection include one cabinet photo of a young woman identified as Mrs. Linton. It was taken in Washington, Pa., and probably dates to between 1880 and early 1900s. The surname Linton doesn't occur elsewhere in the album, but many of the photos are identified, so if you know her maiden name, I could check the albums to see if that surname appears.

Charles Edward Linton/Johanna A Jamieson marriage

According to official records, Charles and Johanna were married on 12/7/1880 at her parents' home in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. Their first child, Alice Mae Linton, is recorded as being born on 5/5/1881. Even with today's technology, 5 month old infants are likely to die at, or soon after, birth, so my presumption is that Johanna was pregnant when married, a scandalous situation for all back in those days, hence the hush hush about this. However, Charles (if that was his name at all, since the scandal attached to the marriage may have prompted him to give fictitious information) is listed as having been born in the United States on June 20, 1859, to parents James Linton and Emma Collins Linton. I have located a James Philpot Linton, born to Irish parents William and Ellen Linton, on May 28, 1832, at sea, who married Emma Collins from Massachusetts, approximately 1855, but no Charles Edward Linton was born to them. Their firstborn son, William, was born in 1857. Charles (if indeed that was his name) emigrated to Canada in 1875, according to records, but William lived in Ohio in that time frame, so I am left wondering who Charles, and/or his parents, really are. The only Charles in that time frame (1859 birth) in the U S I located was born to Samuel and Rebecca Linton in Milton Township, Mahoning County, Ohio, so, if ANYONE has information on these people that is reliable and/or documented, PLEASE contact me promptly with this information. My great grandfather, Joseph Charles, born April 29, 1886, in Kingston, Ontario, Canada, is a product of the Linton/Jamieson marriage, so knowing the true forebears is of considerable importance/interest to our family genealogy.

I am searching for definite, documented information on the Linton/Collins lineage. James was born in 1831 in either Ireland or OH, Emma was born in 1838 in Massachusetts. My great great grandfather, Charles Edward Linton, according to death records, was born on June 20, 1859, but doesn't show up on the OH census for Geauga county, Bainbridge Township in 1860, where James and Emma were located, James having been there since at least 1850 with a suspected grandmother, Catherine Linton. Can someone PLEASE help me unravel the mystery around all this? Charles was born in the USA (he is buried in Toronto), but not sure if he is born in Rochester, NY, or OH, or where exactly he was born. Any definite, documented information on this family would definitely be welcomed.

Margaret Linton Stewart (born 1825 Glasgow, died young) - info on her ancestors

One of my great great grandfathers, Robert Buchanan Stewart had a sister with the above name. I have data for his ancestors although have not found a Linton yet in the tree. But bearing in mind naming conventions it is highly likely there is a Linton connection and I would be interested if anyone can fill me in on this. Also there is a lot of genealogical data on my site. Start from:

http://www.my-broun-wyld-stewart-lang-ancestry.org.uk/stewar...

Clarence Linton, father of Samuel Percy Linton, Sr.

I am stuck on this one. I can't find Clarence in the census anywhere or any other info about him except his first name and that from Sam Linton, III.

I know that Samuel Percy Linton, Sr. was possibly born in AL and was definitely married to Melissa Elizabeth Jordan of the Jordan/Elton family. I know that Melissa was born in 1880, so Samuel was possibly born about that time, putting Clarence to be born about 1860 or so.

I know that's not much info, but if you can help, I would greatly appreciate it.

Karen H.
Am interested in hearing from descendants of Captain John Hancock Linton and wife Ann Nancy Mason Linton. Am in the process of writing a book about the Lintons and would like all lines to be as complete as possible. His children: Elizabeth Rebecca Linton m. Richard Keen, Moses Linton m. Nancy Pead, Catherine Linton m. Henry Taylor, Benjamin Franklin Linton m. Lucy Crewdson, Nancy Linton m. Edward Barber Edwards, Susan Linton m. William Moran, William Linton m. Eliza Lyon Moran, Lewis Linton m. Sarah Janes, Martha Linton m. 1st Charles E. Powell, 2nd Horatio Mudd, John Hancock Linton m. Julia Greene. Captain John Linton moved with all his family from Loudoun County, Virginia, to Washington County, Kentucky in 1816. Many remained in that county, but some ventured on to Logan, Muhlenburg and Daviess counties in Kentucky, Cape Girardeau and Lincoln counties in Missouri, and Clayton and Allamakee counties in Iowa, and even further west. Thank you in advance!

Colonial Virginia and Maryland Lintons

I'm beginning research to republish a book my father and I wrote some years ago which traces some of the early Virginia and Maryland Lintons back to colonial times. I'd like to be able to trace them reliably back to England, Scotland, and Ireland.

The earliest Lintons we have in Virginia and Maryland are:

Anthony Linton, from London to VA in 1637
Bartholomew Linton, Lancaster Co. VA in 1658
William Linton, Richmond Co. VA in 1705
John Linton, Westmoreland Co. VA in 1745
Moses Linton, Norfolk Co. VA in 1653
John Linton, lower MD in 1649 (our ancestor).

As far as we know, these are all independent lines.

If anyone has information about the ancestry of these lines back to the Old Country, could you please let me know?

Dr. John Linton

Am seeking information on Dr. John Linton, born October 5, 1811, died June 27, 1878, in Garnavillo, Iowa (Clayton County). Dr. Linton never married. He is buried in the City Cemetery. Would anyone know if there is a stone for him? Is there an obituary, or a historical article about him? He was the son of Benjamin Franklin Linton and Lucy Crewdson. His brother, Dr. Moses Lewis Linton, lived in St. Louis, MO, and was involved with the university. The tradition is that Dr. John worked among the Indians. Thanks so much for your help.

Flomington, Alabama

There was a location over close to the Alabama state line by this name. Flomington junction, on the Louisville and Nashville railroad, in Florida.

If one is a shipbuilder, one must live where ships are built close to the ocean. Such a place is Mobile, Alabama.

This is not the case with Crestview or Flomaton, Florida, which is right close to Interstate-10 in northern, central Florida. It's north of Eglin AFB and Fort Walton.
