Pioneer State Teacher's Rites Planned Today
CLAREMORE, July 4-Services are to be 2:30 pm Thursday in the
First Presbyterian church here for Nannie Eva Lipe, 84, pioneer
state educator who died in her home here Sunday.
Born in Oowala neighborhood, Indian Territory, in June 14, 1872,
her father was a former treasurer of the Cherokee Nation. Her
mother helped established the Presbyterian church in the Cherokee
Nation.
Miss Lipe was graduated from the Old Cherokee Female seminary in
Tahlequah, from Oswego college and the Eastern University
Preparatory school here.
She became a school teacher before statehood and taught in
various Rogers county schools until 1916, when she became the
assistant superintendetn of schools in Rogers county. She
served in the capacity until 1953 when ill health forced her
to retire. The past three years she had resided in her home
here.
She was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Pocahantas
club here.
