Ignatius and Catherine were my grandparents. John William Lipka and Madelyn Lancaster were my parents. Do you know if LIPKA is the original spelling from the old country? I have never met or heard of a person named Shirley Osewalt talked about at family reunions. Who are you?
V/R,
Andrew T. Lipka

Bonjour,

Toutes mes meileures salutations à Anna Louisa

Maurice et Odette Galeski
Chabany
63290 Paslières
tel 04 73 51 30 90
email : maurice.galeski@laposte.net

maurice.galeski@laposte.net

I have just learned about the Lipka Tatars. Very interesting background on my mother's side of the family. I guess this answers the questions why there were pictures of Pussian or Polish soldiers in the very oldest of family albums. My uncle Paul Lipka would be very interested in hearing from you. The family hails from LaSalle, IL and he currently lives in York, ME. Be interesting to see where the lines cross.

Regards,

Keven Prather

Your Paula can't be the woman I remember if she died before 1930. The Mrs. Katharina my grandmother knew might have been her husband's second wife, if he remarried, or might have been a sister-in-law, etc. But both families were from the same small village so they probably stayed in touch when they moved to Coatesville. However, it might just be that she was missed in that census. I will check when I'm there and I really appreciate the specific cemetery information - it makes it much easier.

Hi Tina -

Sorry for the delay in getting back to you. I've had lots of computer problems this week. From what I've been able to put together, Paula was born about 1880 or 1884 in Roszyska, Galicia. She was not in the 1930 census, so she died sometime before April 1930. I haven't been able to locate her husband's immigration or naturalization papers...he's been a difficult one to locate - if we had his birth date I'd be able to send to the INS for his papers. I did find the passenger arrival information for Paula, which is where I found her place of birth. We don't know if any other family members have copies of their papers. But, their two boys, Michael & John, adopted the last name of Catherine & Katherine, respectively. We don't have any definite birth or death dates for Paula, so if you happen to run into her in a cemetery we'd be grateful for the information. Her husband was buried in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, so she may be there with him. He is buried in Plot 3 Range 4 Section C. I am making copies of these posts for my friend; maybe he'll remember some additional information that would be helpful. And he may want to contact you. Thanks for getting in touch with me - you've been very helpful!

Do you know when Paula died? I think I might know who she was. When I was little my grandmother used to visit a woman who lived in the end unit of a row of houses. I thought her name was Mrs. Catharina, but I only heard the name, never saw it in writing. If she wasn't born until 1880 or after, then she might have been my grandfather's younger sister. Do you know if anyone in the family has a copy of her citizenship papers, or old baptismal papers from Europe. That's how I found out about my grandparents' parents and their grandparents. They had to have the baptismal papers sent over from what was then part of Poland before they could complete citizenship. The Polish cemetery is not far from the Ukrainian cemetery if there's anything you would like me to check. The churches are close together also.

She married Andrew Katarinu in Galicia. She immigrated in 1904 and sometime in 1906 returned home & came back to PA (in Nov. 1906). They lived in Coatesville (I have one residence as Stone Row) until Paula died, then Andrew moved to Philly. He worked at Lukens Steel. They had the following children: Hania, Michael, Josephine, John, Joseph, Stella, and Sophia. Hania & Joseph died during the flu epidemic of 1918-1919. Some of the children were baptized at St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Coatesville. I know that her husband, Andrew, is buried in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Paula called herself Ruthenian and spoke Polish.

Thanks for responding so quickly. If I come across anything else helpful, I'll let you know.

Ignore that one question - I just re-read your posting and saw that Paula Lipka was married. I'll try to track down that last name at the Ukrainian cemetery since I'll be out in Coatesville within the next couple of weeks.

Yes, there is a connection. Alexandra Struz was the older sister of Anastasia Lipka, Peter's wife. I have never run into the name of Paula before; in fact, I've never heard about any of my grandfather's immediate family, only about some cousins by the name of Cross in Coatesville. Was Paula Lipka her maiden or married name?? According to my other, 1 of the 3 other Lipka families in Coatesville was related to her family but I don't know exactly how. Lipka was an EXTREMELY common name in Galicia. If you have any other information I might be able to get more from my mother's elderly cousin in Canada. Please get back to me with whatever you have.

My grandmother's name was exactly the same as yours: Louise Lipkau. She was the daughter of a Dr. Louis Lipkau from Paris and of Johanna Baletta-Theez. She was born in Mexico, since their parents moved from Paris to Cordoba (Veracruz). The reasons why thi did it are still unknown to us. I send you a photo of her (in white) with their parents and to brothers called Maurice and Ferdinand. My mother is now 89 and she knows lots of details about her family. She will be very happy when I tell her about you, because I'm sure that you are related. Excuse my english, we're all spaniards, since the family moved later to Barcelona. Tell me something about you! I'll send you more photos of this branch of the family. I'm 58, architect, and faher of two girls aged 19 and 16.
Affectuously,

José Adolfo Suárez Álvarez

There were 4 Lipka families who all came to Coatesville around the same time, from the same general area in Galicia. And 3 of those families were headed by men named Peter!! According to my mother, who passed away last year, all of the Peters were friends and I believe that Cornelius was the one who went to high school with my mother, Tacy (Tillie) Lipka Hudson. I think I worked with your aunt Mary when I was in high school before she retired. Did she ever work at Zinn's? If there are any specific questions you have just let me know.
Tina Smith

Hi Tina -

I'm doing research for a friend who is descended from a Paula Lipka (married to Andrew Katrynn/Katrinu/Katherine) in Coatesville. Paula came from Rozyska, Galicia (Skalatt). Alexandria Struz is named as a sponsor on the baptismal certificate for one of Paula's children. When I chased down Alexandria, I found Peter Lipka's family. I think there is a connection between the 3 families, and after reading your post I now know the connection between Peter Lipka & Alexandria Struz. I'm thinking that Paula could be Peter's sister, but I have yet to prove it. Have you run across Paula's name anywhere in your searches?

Hello Fellow Lipkas!

I have only recently begun to research my ancestry. I am 41 years old, and live in Baltimore, Md. (as do most of my family). What I know so far, my father (also named Thomas) father was Stanislaw Lipka. He was born in Jaslo or Jodlowa on 22 May 1893. His father's name was Jozepha and mother's name Francis. He also had a brother named Jozeph who went on to Chicago and founded a large family there that I have yet to make contact with.
The brother, Jozeph immigrated to the US in 1907 (if I have found the correct record), traveling with a Walenty Lipka, and temporarily lived in Fall River, Mass. My grandfather, Stanislaw followed in 1913 at age 17 just before the Great War, also landing in Fall River, Mass. There he met a Julianna Biskup (b. 1894) from Grebow, Poland and they were married there in 1916 and moved to Baltimore sometime before 1923. Stanislaw had a brother who remained in Poland (then called Austrian Galicia) whose name, I think, was Wojciech. He may have had at least one sister as well.

Needless to say, I have become obsessed with tracing down my relatives both here in the US and in Poland (and elsewhere) but especially from those still in Poland. I also would like any leads on where to find fore info on Jozeph Lipka (his father) as well as what if any part thise lineage may have played in Polish history.

Any takers? Please contact me off list unless you think it relevant to the others.

Thanks to Mr. Galeski-Lipka's interesting missives on the deeper history of the Lipka name. Now I know why I am so rebellious! ;-)

Thanks in advance!

Thomas R. Just when I finally figured out he was talking about a Lipka/Lipkau line back in the summer/fall of 2000 that relates to my late wife Isabel de Lipkau, he disappears off the radar scope.I have been chasing the line from California, Chicago, France, Poland in the 1800s and 1900s back to Bohemia in the 1500s. Some interesting history with names, dates, locations to share and lots of gaps to fill in. Any takers?
Good morning, Carlos! Thank you for responding. Since I first posted this inquiry, I have been in contact with some Spanish relatives and have found that there are Lipkaus in Spain, Mexico and the Canary Islands. I also found some cousins in Chicago USA. It has been a wonderful experience and I look forward to hearing from you soon.

My great great grandfather was Dr. Theodore de Lipkau of Paris. His brother, also a doctor, was Louis, who moved to Mexico in the late 1800s. His widow moved back to Europe and it is part of this side of the family I am corresponding with.

Please tell me about your part of the family.

Louise Muir de Lipkau
ldelipkau@janugget.com

de Lipkau Family

Greetings! I am a member of your family and we've been looking forever for relatives. But, with the different names and spelling, we haven't had very much luck. I have in my possession coat of arms, some family jewelry with the coat of arms, papers tracing lineage to very early nobility, registered in Prague. My understanding is that one son (we always thought there was just one) fled Poland in the 1830s and settled in Paris. He was a rather famous physician. His son, Eugene, emigrated to Chicago Illinois, leaving his mother, father and siblings in Paris. He had one son. That was my great-grand father. My granfather was Theodore de Lipkau. My father's name was Francis Eugene de Lipkau. My brother's name is Ross Eugene de Lipkau. There are no other families of this name in the United States. Dr. de Lipkau of Paris was a Count.

We have to be related! This is very exciting! I am happy to share any of the historic papers I have in my possession.

Louise de Lipkau
Reno, Nevada USA

Re: Pennsylvania/Michigan Lipkas

Cheryl, I came across your old e-mail looking for your Dad's family. I don't think you remember me or even your cousin Tom since it has been so many years since we have seen your Mom and Dad. My husbands name is Tom and he is your Dad's cousin. Tom's Dad was Joe Pizzimenti who was your Grandmother Ediths brother. I know many years have gone by but we saw your Mom and Dad last when Joe died in 1989 here in Detroit.

I guess what I am looking for, like you, is information on our families. Tom and I now live in the Kansas City suburb of Independence, Mo. since Aug. of 2002. I have been doing research for 3 or 4 years now and have done very well. But i need more information on the Pizzimenti family and your Dad is the only one that can tell me what he knows. I would love to hear from you and trade information. In Indep. there is a library that is for family research only and it has so much. I would be willing to look up anything you might not be able to find. Please contact me at the above e-mail address or at Pizzi1@webtv.net Either one is fine.

Tom and I have been in Mi. for the past month visiting our sons and grandchildren. We have 3 grandchildren now.
Tommy has been married for over 12 years and has 2 children . Michael is 11 and Katelynn is 8 years old. My son Joe just got married in 2000 and he and his wife had a baby in Nov.of 2002. Needless to say we will be back often to visit.

Pleasse tell your Mom and Dad hi from us and we look forward to hearing from you.

Georgia & Tom Pizzimenti

I am not sure if there is any connection to the above query. However I am looking for any info about my the families of my grandmother, Anna Kowalczuk or her husband, George Predko. Ellis Island records list Anna as being from Holbrach, Russia and sailing to the US in 1915. Anyone hear of Holbrach,Russia?
Thanks,
George Predko
Eugene, Oregon
