Albert Liska Family

I am searching for information on Albert Liska and family from Hungary. He was born in 1894 and Grandmother Elizabeth in 1900. They had 5 sons. Last known whereabouts of the Liska family is Caldwell, NJ. Any help with family history is much appreciated. Also, my mother Ann Muell, died in 1982 in Boynton Beach, FL. Would like to see her obituary or the funeral home she was at. Her maiden name is Ann E. Robertson, her mother was Elizabeth Pilkington died in Miami 1972. She has a sister named Audrey. This is all I remember. Thank you.

Check at your local public library if they have free access to any online services which allow you to look at US census enumerations. You will want to carefully look at Hancock County, Iowa - Garfield township in the 1900 US census. Liska and Che.... (whatever their names were, I forget now)
I think that James Liska entry in the 1900 census shows a couple of brothers and his mother living with him and listed as a widow, so his father may have already died..
Take a magnifying glass if you have to.

You'll also find a family 'Chesek' or 'Chesik' in that same Iowa county in the 1900 US census and they have a daughter of marriagable age named Anna.
The marriage records for 1873-1930 of Hancock County Iowa have been copied to microfilm by the LDS Family History Library and you can order and use those at any nearby LDS Family History Center.
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/fhlcatalog/supermain...

You can locate a Family History Center near you by using the search function at this website -
http://www.familysearch.org/
Your posting is almost impossible to read. All capital letters is like shouting - and the lack of punctuation is completely baffling. This probably does not encourage others to respond.

There is an unmarried James Liska living in Hancock Co. Iowa in the 1900 US census. Listed as born about 1876-77 - parents from Bohemia. That census also indicates two older Liskas in other Iowa counties who list their birthplaces as Bohemia - perhaps one of those is James' father?

I have two original studio photograph of “Edwin and Anna Liska” and of “Clara Liska”, which I would like to get back to family members. Photo of Edwin & Anna which looks as if it was of both of them at graduation, was taken in about 1915 (or a year either way), in Hillsboro (Vernon Co.) WI, and Edwin looks to be about age 20 while Anna is about age 18. The photo of Clara Liska was taken in Poynette (Columbia Co.) WI in about 1910-1912, and she looks about early 20s.

I found all three in the 1900 census for Henrietta (Richland Co.) WI, as children of James and Annie Liska. Clara A. is listed DOB of Apr 1890, Edwin’s DOB was Mar 1894 and Annie’s DOB was Jul 1896. By 1910, James’s name is listed as Vaclav Liska. SSDI shows that Edwin was born 31 Mar 1894 and died 1970 in Cudahy (Milwaukee Co.) WI.

Email me at margerice@prodigy.net if you are related to Clara, Edwin or Anna Liska.

Thanks for the reply about the Dremsa family. My grandmother was Mary Dremsa--married Frank Liska. As nearly as I can tell, she came to Nebraska from somewhere east--possible the upper midwest (Illinois, Michigan etc.) From that point I have little information. I'd love to contact your aunt with the Dremsa family tree to see if there is a possible connection. Anna was the 9th of 12 children. Alois and Louis are the same person.
Lynda, I am a Liska as well. Your Grandfather Joseph was my uncle. My father was his brother John. Their mother was Alma Anna Werner. Her parents were Charles Werner and Martha Kimme. They were both from Germany but lived in Chicago. There she met and married your great grandfather Peter Liska. He was born in Illinois in 1881. They were married in Chicago the 28th of January 1904. Peter had several brothers. They were James, John, and Joseph. I don't know if they had any other siblings. I hope this will help.

My wife has a family line of Liskas and I am stuck. I read this email and it got my mind moving again. The last line I have is a Karol Liska (1870-1941) that was thought to be born in Poland and a Mary Hujous (1875-1947). I know they moved to America. They left a George there. Could this be in this line? I do have other names in the tree as well.

Re: Alois Liska

I am helping a friend look for her LISKA ancestors and am wondering if there could be a connection. She has a Louis Liska born 1856 in Pilsen, Austria, died 1931 in Chicago, Illinois. He married Josephine Chamtova 1883 in Chicago. They have one child - Anna - born 1898 although there may very well have been more. Could these be the same people, or related somehow? Could your Alois Liska be her Louis Liska, and your Josefa Chamra be her Josephine Chamtova? I know immigrants often "Americanized" all or part of their names and this could account for the variances. If you think there may be connection, I would love to hear from you!
