I have accumulated some circumstantial information on the ancestry of William Lisle, born 1763, who lived in Central Pa. in the present Mifflin County in the 1770's and died in Harrison County, Ohio in 1837. I hope someone can add more
or find flaws.
I think William had brothers Robert and James. I think they
were the sons of Robert Lyle (b.1732) and Janet Taylor who
lived in Lanark, Scotland. I think Robert was the son of Robert Lyle and Margaret Masson who were married in 1717.
Margaret's father was John and she was born in 1717. I think
Robert and Margaret had the following children: Margaret (b.1723), Mary (b.1724), John (b.1726), Elizabeth (b.1728)
Unknown F (b.1730), Robert (b.1732) who married Margaret,
Charles (b.1734) and Margt. (b.1738)
I think the John (b.1726) became a wealthy merchant in Philadelphia who married Sarah and was a skinner in Philadelphia by 1754. He had children Sarah (b<1760),
Mary (<1760), Joseph (b.1760), Agnes and John Jr. b.1767
who married Margaret Mark) and Robert (b.1772).
I think the Charles (b.1734) was a tailor who married Lettitia
Campbell and had children Peter (b.1761) Letitia (b.1763),
Janet (b.1765) Eleanor (b.1767) Mary (b.1769) and Agnes (b.1771).
I base this on Scottish Church Records, the fact that Robert
and Charles lived on or near land owned by John, and by similarities in the names of Childrern.
