I have been researching my family and stumbled upon this message board. My family are descendants of Lizzimore, my great grandmother was Mary Ann who married Francis Stewart in 1901. Her father was William lizzimore and her mother susan butterfield and they married in 1865. Cannot seem to trace records for william lizzimore birth. 1891 census says he was born in ipswich, suffolk. can anyone help?

Patrick

I have undertaken extensive research on Lizmore / Lismore, particularly in respect of those that were from Brentford, West London and then in Dartford, Kent and SE Essex. This includes the large contingent that emigrated from Essex to Ontario, Canada. There has always been great speculation that prior to being in Brentford the family originated from Ireland, however I am yet to see any hard facts that supported this ! !

I would like to hear from you if you are able to link into any of the areas above.

Regards

Kevin

Adrian,

Good to note that you are still there. I trust you are also continuing to seek connections associated with the name "LISSIMORE," that seems to have a number of derivatives of which the name might also be a derivative. At last count, there were at least 45 name spellings that easily qualify. Anyway, it is difficult to really know who we are and where the name and or various ancestors came from unless there is shared information. Without that kind of cooperation, we are simply going in circles.

Hope to hear from you soon or from others replying to this message.

Take care,

T.
Lissimores

Wendell,

Thanks for writing and showing interest in the Lissimore Family. Actually, you happen to be one of only a few persons to respond to the message I posted a year or so ago. Your question is an honest one, since there are several families of Lissimores. When I attended public school in Valdosta, Georgia, I attended school in the same grade with another Lissimore. His name was John Lissimore and my name is John Lissimore. The clue you gave, in determining whether or not we are related, is your mention of the name "Hansel." The "Handel" or "Hansel" that I am familiar with was blind but was a great piano player. His name is inscribed in the cornerstone of Fountain Hall, at Morris Brown College (Atlanta, Georgia). I was proud to know that and often went by that location whenever I was having a hard time with some college subject. If this is the same person, then we are definitely related. If not, we may still be related. We simply need to know more about each other's family history.

By the way, let me encourage to continue doing research on the Lissimore Family. I encourage this because without young persons such as yourself learning who we are, we will never know.who we really are. So, keep on keeping on, ok? And, holler back!

Troy Lissimore

Sarah Maria Lismore m. Abraham Battersby

Greetings! I am looking for Sarah Maria Lismore b. abt. 1863 in England, possible Macclesfield. She married Abraham Battersby in England. They came to America in the 1890's settling in the Paterson, NJ area. They had at least 5 children:

- Mary (Alice) Battersby
- Hepzibah "Epsie" Battersby
- Eliza "Lizzie" Battersby
- John Battersby
- Harry Battersby
Sarah died sometime after 1921, in I believe, Paterson, NJ. There is a possibility that she died in CA, as 2 of here daughters were living there at the time.
Mary Alice married Daniel August Keefe. Hepzibah married William Nelson Wood. This is all the information I hae about Sarah. Any help or additional information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What are the dates of your mother's birth and what was her father's name. Where was your mother born? You have to start with what you know before you can find out who you are related to. Someone else cannot give you that information. We have no idea if your connected or not.

I am searching for Lismore/Lizmore any given name. My Lizmores came from England but were originally Irish. One Lizmore went to Virginia and I think, then to Alabama sometime in the 1800's. The name was originally O'Callahan and would like anyone who has a family story connected with this aspect.

Thanks for your consideration.

Hello,

I am also searching for other Lissimores out there. What I have come to realize is that the name, over the years, has become somewhat transmorgrafied or changed. My research reveals at least forty different spellings and pronounciations. Also, there are white and black Lissimore derivations.

Personally, my roots are Valdosta, Georgia. Considering lineage, I have records (courthouse) that touch on other Lissimore ancestors, but specifically I can only go back to my Grandfather, Colorado Lissimore (1893-1974).

Perhaps at some point we can compare notes.

If interested in know more about me, I have a website at: http://www.lgdpublishing.com

Troy

Lizzimore variants

Hi everyone at this message board
I've been doing research on this name for over 10 years. Can get back to 1770's Suffolk, England. Family later moved to London Gt.Grandmother Ellen born 1870 had brother Willam Chas.1867, sister Martha (called May) 1878, Mary Ann (Polly) 1880, brother Charles T. 1885, Robert (Bob) - Joseph 1887. Their parents were William b.1844 Susan Butterfield. William's parents
were Peter Took Lizzimore 1809 & Louisa Driver(?) - peter's parents = William 1784 & Mary Took. Have searched many Suffolk parishes and the name is not common. I have heard the Irish rumour but never found any connection to these Suffolk ones. Collected loads of data & yes there do seem to be so many variants of the name. My E-mail =
wendy-malcolm@rennie3.fsnet.co.uk

Sorry to have been so long replying but was unaware of your query. I have been away.

It certainly sounds as if we could be connected. I have a James Lizmore/Lismore born New Brentford, Middlesex, England 1795 to a John and Mary Lismore. I believe that John came from Ireland. I cannot prove it. My grandfather swore that they came from Ireland but how long ago I cannot say. My e-mail address is donna@prime-online.com if you would like to e-mail me directly. It would be much easier to correspond that way.
