Litaker / Laidacker / etc. DNA Project

Seeking DNA test participants. We are trying to establish genealogy links to the Litaker family. This surname is spelled a variety of ways including, but not limited to:

Litaker
Lidaker
Leidaker
Leideker
Leidecker
Laidacker
Laidaker

The 1790 Federal Census shows members of this family were living in Rowan and Mecklenburg Counties but members could have settled anywhere in North Carolina. Research leads us to believe members of this family were in Pennsylvania prior to North Carolina. However, there seems to be a horrible lack of documentation to prove ancestry – thus the DNA project. If the DNA matches, we will know we are on the right track. If it does not match, they we will know to look in other directions.

We hope to find male Litakers (and other similiar spellings) to take the Y-DNA67 test. We are using Family Tree DNA (www.FamilyTreeDNA) for the project.

If you would like more information about this new DNA project, please contact me.

Linda Allred Cooper
lacooper@mindspring.com
Looking for Dora who married John Alexander Litaker

I'm trying to find information about my great great grandmother who is listed as either Eudora, Dora or E.W. (b. abt 1865) she married John Alexander Litaker (b. 1855) son of A.F. Litaker and Mary Jane Nash.

Family stories say that John went west to Arkansas from Alabama and married a Choctaw Indian woman and returned to live in Alabama with her. They had two children, Armon Newberry Litaker and Alice "Lizzie" Litaker. They possibly had an older daughter, Mary Alice, who died as an infant/toddler. Some of John's siblings did move to Arkansas and I have photos of Armon on visits to his cousins in Arkansas. I am unable to confirm the story of their marriage or of her heritage though.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hi! Alexander Franklin and Mary Jane Nash Litaker were my husband's Great great great grandparents, on his mother's side. They come down from Alexander and Mary's son, George Edward Litaker and Sarah A. Hardy. Their son was John Oliver Litaker and he married Gladys B. Campbell. Their daughter, Emma Pauline Litaker married Patrick Henry Farley. Those are my husband's grandparents. I noticed on your Ancestry.com pages that you have Mary Jane Nash Litaker in an unmarked grave in Rockford Cemetery. Alexander Franklin may be in Rockfor, but she is really buried in White Pond Baptist Church cemetery, White City, Autauga County, Alabama. My daugher and I were just there and her grave stone says the following:

Mary J.
Wife of
A. F. Litaker
Born Jan 11, 1830
Died Oct 3, 1910
Gone But Not Forgotten

Right next to her is another of their sons, Jacob J. Litaker and his wife, Cordelia M. Bradley. Next to them is their son, William Jefferson Litaker. Buried there also are John Oliver Litaker and his wife Gladys B. Campbell Litaker. The following is on Jacob and his family's stones:

In Memory of
Jacob J. Litaker
Born April 10, 1853
Died Mar 4, 1915
Asleep in Jesus, blessed sleep
from which none ever wake to weep.

Mrs. C.M.
Wife of
J.J. Litaker
Aug 16, 1850
Sept 16, 1918
Best Mother rest
in quiet sleep
While friends in sorrow
O'er thee weep

W.J. (Jeff) Litaker
Feb 24, 1889
Nov 11, 1939

Let me know if you need anything from this side and I'll see if I have it. Good luck,

Marky
