Don't know if the information you're looking for is my family or not. But my grandfather immigrated to Canada in 1896 and lived in southern Manitoba somewhere between Steinbach and the US border in the early 1900's. At some point the family relocated to Alberta where most of the family settled permanently. If you would like to explore this a bit more my email address is litkes@shaw.ca.

HI, Murray. I am a son of Leo Litke, Gus's younger brother. Are you doing your family's genealogy? If you are, maybe we can share some information. I'm working on the Litke history, and I live in Edmonton. Drop me a line at:
llitke@epl.ca

All the best,
Lloyd Litke

Hi. I'm a Litke from Alberta, too. My grandparents came to the Edmonton area around 1891. They were Henry and Wilhelmina Litke (nee Goltz). Henry's father and mother, Frederick and Amelia Litke, came to Edmonton in the early 1900's. I know some things about their history after they came to Canada, but I am trying to discover where in Europe they came from. I would like to get in touch with any members of my family who are investigating the family's genealogy.

Lloyd Litke
Edmonton, AB
llitke@epl.ca
You might be talking about a different Darrell & Norman Litke then. If you look at the original post, it indicated that he probably lives in California, which is where I KNOW that my father-in-law Darrell Litke lives and his father, Norman Litke passed away approximately 15 years ago. Could just be a coincidence.

Hi,
I am a direct descendant of Henry Litke, whom came from Poland/Russia to Canada then down to Pennsylvannia. My mother was Henry's youngest daughter. From what I know Henry and 2 of his brothers ( Gottleib and Gottfried) immigrated to Canada. The one brother went from there to Colorado and Henry and the other went to Pa.
I don't know if they are the ones you are searching for or not.
I was doing a search for a member of my own family when I came across your old posting (1999) "Looking for lost relatives-The Litkes" .

I am afraid I cannot be of any help in that regard.

My name is Litke, but there is no connection between our respective families. However, there there are some interesting coincidences in the Litke family you were asking about, and my own that I thought might find interesting.

My name is Jack Litke, and I am one of six siblings...five boys and one girl.

My grandmother's name was Molly. She would have been born around 1880 and died in the middle sixties I believe her maiden name was Kurtzman. She also had six children, three boys and three girls.

We were raised, for the most part in Chicago. I am 76, and except for my oldest brother, Harry, who died in World War II, we are all still hanging in there.

I hope your search brought you the information you were seeking.

Regards,

Jack Litke
jacklitke@comcast.net

My grandfather is Norman Litke Senior, my father's Norman Litke Junior (seems to be a popular Litke name, I noticed! :) ). My father has three brothers and three sisters, all of whom have kids, so it's a pretty big group out here.

My Great Grandfather Adolph Litke Was born in Prussia in 1880 and came to america in 1901. He was married to Emma Reisner and after he had his children he disappeared and I was told he died in Pittsburgh in a work related accident. I am trying to fill in more of the family tree and was looking for any descendants of his if he remarrried and had more children. Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Sara, if you do a search on "litke" you will find many Litke's. I too live in Colorado. I was raised in Minnesota where most of my Litke relatives still are. Have you researched your family tree to see where you came from?

Hello Murray;
I knew that there were Litke's in Canada. My Great Grandfather John Litke and family arrived in New York on August 18, 1875 on the Cimbria. They came to Kansas and settled near Stong City, Kansas and moved to the Council Grove area in 1876. On the same ship was Friedr. Litke. He was 21 years and a farmer. I believe that this Friedrick went north. Could this be your ancestor?

Hello Anneta:
Your Great Great Grandfather Fred was my Great Grandfather John's brother. I do not have much on your family. This is all I have: Ida Kathleen Borkert, born 10-27-1941 in Alta Vista, married Stanley Orton. Married 9-1-1953 in Miami, Oklahoma. I think some of this may be wrong. I do not have any children. Where do you live now? I grew up near Alma, KS. You can reply to my home
at: navinsky@kansas.net.

Hmm....Prussia is now in Poland isn't it? If so (and my European geography is not what it used to be) then you should look into the Germans from Russia/Poland web sites to get a little more information (American Historical Society of Germans from Russia is one) . Don't know if you have the immigration records as they could shed light upon whether he came alone or with family...........check out the web sites anyway. They will also have info on how you can get either census or church records from Prussia if you want to go that far.

Cheers,
Brian Mitchell
(b.
