Who are the parents of the Clarissa Littlefield who married Albert R. Browning?

Does anyone have documentary evidence of the birth date and/or parents of Clarissa D. Littlefield, who married Albert R. Browning 18 Dec 1842 in Skowhegan, Somerset, Maine?

I have found her in 5 censuses, and they vary in indicating her birth state as New Hampshire or Maine, and the ages allow for an estimated birth year of anywhere from 1819 to 1824. Her gravestone in the Pittsfield Village Cemetery, Pittsfield, Maine shows her birth and death years as 1819 and 1917.

Various public family trees suggest she may have died in Massachusetts, though I can find no documentary evidence of this. She was living with her son, David O. Browning, in Pittsfield in 1910.

Any information could be useful.
I also descend from Abigail Munson & Westbrook Knight, specifically via their daughter Hannah Knight. Sorry, I can't give you insight re Abigail's siblings...I just thought I could compare notes with you concerning the Littlefield heritage. I, too, have found others' research on this line which said that Francis Littlefield was son of Annis Pope & Francis Littlefield (b. 15 APR 1530) who was son of William Littlefield (b. ABT 1500). I didn't capture the links of my sources when I researched it several years ago.

Littlefield Family Histories Published?

All,

It is pretty surprising but I can't seem to find any references online, in ancestry, at NEHGS or elsewhere that mentions any published work on this line other than the 1913 NEHGR article, and a Manuscript on the Littlefield held at the New England Historic and Genealogic Society which I intend review when I can soon as I live just outside of Boston. But am I missing any fundamental works here?

I also find that almost all the work online is completely unsourced. No mentioned of how one derives the notion that Jane is the daughter of John, etc. I'd love to be proven wrong.

Cheers,

Jeff

Christina-Marie,

Savage's book came out in 1861, and the 1913 NEHGR article, vol. 67, p. 348 says this disputing the reason cited by Savage as to why there were two son's name Francis:

"* The tradition given in Savage, Gen. Dict., vol. 3, p. 100, concerning the reason for naming two sons in this familly Francis, seems to be incorrect."

Jeff

I have no connection to this family. This appeared while doing other research in the Feb. 17, 1859 issue of the Rockland (Maine) Gazette:

"A CURIOUS FACT - Deacon Samuel B. Littlefield, who died in Wells, Me., on the 27th of December last, was eighty-seven years old - We learn, says the Boston Journal, from a correspondent that the farm that Deacon Littlefield owned has descended from father to son through six generations, and is now in possession of the seventh. The original grant from Sir. Fernando Gorges to Edmond Littlefield in 1640, on parchment, is still in possession of the family."

Trying to find the burial location of Mrs. Katherine B. Littlefield.

Her husband, George Edward Littlefield, is buried at Monocacy Cemetery in Beallsville, MD. There is no record that she is buried with him.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=82...

(Strangely, there IS a woman's name on his gravestone -- Harriet A. Littlefield 1806-1892. Could this be his grandmother?)

Thank you,

Glenn Wallace
Monocacy Cemetery, Registrar
monocacycemetery@gmail.com

Hi Angela,

I was just searching for Chuck Littlefield and your post appeared in the search results. I'm sorry this is 10 years late. I hope your health has improved. (?) My prayers for you.

Were you ever able to locate your father? If not, I knew him. He and Rosie live across the street from me and I know he has a son named Bruce.

If you have not been in contact with him, I am sorry to tell you, that he has just recently passed away, which is why I was searching for his name online. I am awaiting funeral news.

Again, my prayers for your health. I'm sorry about this news. If you've contacted your father over the past 10 years and know of this sad event, I apologize for contacting you with this sensitive news.

Take care,
Tanya

I am looking for a connection to Gordon Littlefield, supposedly adopted by a Captain or Colonel in the Army from a Indian camp, in the late 1860's to be raised as white. Gordon was half Indian, half white and had two other brothers.
