Hi am looking for a information where would be the best place to find info on the Littlejohns in the 1800's have been tracing the family tree and am stuck.. I am looking for info on a John Littlejohn who married Isabella Anderson and at least had one daughter Ann Littlejohn born in 1850 . Ann Littlejohn had her own family and dies in Scotland but I cannot locate any birth certs for her so am unsure if she was born in another part of the UK... Thanks

I am researching the Abram/Abraham Littlejohn of your messages. Would the probate documents you mentioned have any clue as to his origins? A date of birth, for instance?

I have reason to believe that he and Margaret Jane were cousins and am trying to find info to prove or disprove his sibling relationship to my gggrandfather.

John Littlejohn is also my 3GG through his daughter Mary (Polly) who married William D Baccus. They lived Scioto Co, Ohio, along the Ohio River. I know nothing about John and Lucy but can supply my line on down from them.

I have gone back to James L Cook, 3GG, his birthday is abt 1785 from England. John Littlejohn married to Lucy Chapman. James L Chapman married to Phoebe Elizabeth Pearce. I need info on Lettie Madora Littlejohn's mother. Lettie was born on 06-18-1876 in Texas and died on 04-07-1958 in Lamar Co., Texas. Her mother was married to Thomas John Littlejohn born on 12-19-1843 died on 03-15-1900. The only info I have for his wife is that her name was I think Bettie. I believe she was born on 05-31-1852. Any info on her maiden name and her parents name would be appreciated.

I have not placed my family tree on Ancestry.com, but I'm working on it. If you send me your e-mail address, maybe I can export some of my info. My gr gr grandparents were Sarah Jane Winget and Thomas Jefferson Littlejohn. Sarah's parents were Joshua Winget (son of Ziba) and Eliza Brown from Darke Co., OH. Sarah was born in Elkhart, IN, but later returned to Ohio. Thomas's parents were Thomas Littlejohn and Rachel Brate. He was born in Ohio. His grandfather was William Littlejohn from VA.
Do you know if there are any Winget family reunions? I would love to attend one.

My gr gr grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Littlejohn from Clark Co.,OH. He married Sarah Jane Winget from Darke Co., OH. His father was Thomas Littlejohn who married Rachel Brate. There is some information on these Littlejohns in the Brate family tree.

"another" Silas Littlejohn query

I am trying to find out any information on “my” Silas Littlejohn, who appears to be a different one than the one discussed here. I don’t have a lot of information on him but here is what I have.

According to a handwritten pencil note in my great-grandmother’s (maiden name: Littlejohn) family bible, this Silas Littlejohn was born September 1, 1782. and was married to Margaret (Peggy) Gilleland (who was born September 30, 1802). I found an entry in “Marriage Bonds of Tryon and Lincoln Counties, NC” of Silas Litlejohn to Peggy Gillenger (last names misspelled) March 30, 1821.

Silas was also the witness to two of Margaret’s brothers weddings: Allen (1821) and Thomas (1825) Gilleland. Margaret, Allen and Thomas were children of Thomas and Mary Gilleland of Lincoln Co., NC.

From the above handwritten note, here are the listed children:

Thomas Littlejohn b. July 26, 1823
Simeon Littlejohn b. January 7, 1825
Ephraim Littlejohn b. September 3, 1827
J.A. Littlejohn b. July 11, 1829
M.A. Littlejohn b. June 30, 1834
Abram Littlejohn b. March 6, 1837
William Littlejohn b. March 27, 1839
Eliza J. Littlejohn b. November 28, 1841 d. July 5, 1907
G.W. Littlejohn b. September 25, 1845

I am descended through Abram. Abram always stated on each census (except one – 1910, where he states his father was born in England, mother USA – Abram was 73 years old) that he (as well as his parents) was born in North Carolina. William (as well as children listed after him) stated he was born in Georgia. So if true, this means these Littlejohns migrated from North Carolina to NW Georgia between 1837 – 1839. I have not been able to locate them on 1850 census. I did find Margaret (aged 58) living with her son William in Walker County Georgia on the 1860 Walker County GA census.

If any of the above sounds familiar, or if someone has these Littlejohns in their research, I would be happy to hear from you.

They had a daughter named Sarah who was born 12-17-1826, in
Clark Co. She married my gggGF, William Johnson, in Darke County OH, 12-22-1844. Both William & Sarah are buried in

You've probably long since found the information that you were looking for, but I'm interested to know your connection as we may be distantly related...and perhaps we have information to share about our family trees.

My great grandfather, David Littlejohn was an elder brother of Sir Henry Duncan Littlejohn. Their father Thomas Littlejohn and his wife Isabella (Duncan) had nine children and we believe they owned a bakery in Edinburgh. Sir Henry married another Isabella (Harvey) and fathered 12 children in addition to becoming the first Medical Officer of Edinburgh and a leader in public health. Sarah Jane Winget and Thomas Littlejohn were my gr gr grandparents. I grew up in Middletown and lived less than a mile from their house. Sarah was born in Wolf Lake, IN. Her mother was Eliza Brown and her father was Joshua Winget. Do you have any more info?

I too am of Littlejohns descent. This looks very interesting as my Great Great Great Grandfather William L. Littlejohns was born in England, married a woman from Canada in Somerset England, went to New York had children and then moved to Michigan. I can see why going back has been hard as for some reason the (S) was dropped off the Littlejohns name. If anyone has any help for me please drop me a line or two. Thank you
