Hi Jayne,
I'm Terry Littleton and I'm the admin/sponsor of the LITTLETON-L@rootsweb.com mailing list. So glad to have you join the LITTLETON hunt. We have spent many combined years researching this and other LITTLETON lines with the main project being to locate where John Littleton (father of your John Littleton who married Sarah Adams) came from.

You have your lineage right and we have MANY cousins from other lines that connect to these John Littletons. I DO NOT have any info on the family of Thomas and Stacy Chapman but will share whatever LITTLETON info you might want. e-mail me at tlturbo@aol.com

OK, I finally found them in my files.

Grant O was the son of Jesse Martin Littleton & Nancy Bell Coy. The Grant you are looking for is a brother to Jesse. I have him married to a Bessie Davis abt 1907 and then a Edna A Harmon. I will have to add the first marriage you mentioned. I also have contact info to a couple other people in this line.

I have a lot of info on this family so contact me if still interested. I can take you back to mid 1700's in this line. They come from the Littleton/Goddard line in KY who came from VA - probably Loudoun Co.

Terry Littleton

HI,First I checked all my data files - nothing on either name.
Then I checked the census records for Sheridan Co WY - nothing.
Then I checked the census index - again nothing. I can't find a Grant Littleton anywhere.
I did have a Littleton family that was in Sheridan but I know that family pretty well and there isn't a grant and the timing isn't right anyway. Do you know anything else about them?
The only things I did find besides their marriage in Sheridan were a marriage of a Fred E Littleton to a Mayme Yore 21 May 1914 and a William L Littleton to a Jennie Roberson 25 Jun 1919.
There is also a burial of a Fred Littleton b 4-25-1906 d 3-19-1916.

This makes it more curious that there are Littletons in Sheridan but none appear on a census.
If you can provide any more info, I'll do some more research.

Terry Littleton admin/sponsor of LITTLETON@rootsweb.com

Cheryl,

Your info is correct although I have a few different dates by a couple days.
I have been working on this line off and on for a long time and I have a pretty good bit of info on most of these people.
I believe (trying to find proof) that William b 1805 & John Arnold b 1807 who married Scott sisters were brothers born in Cabarrus Co, NC to Thomas Littleton and an unknown first wife.
It is well known that Thomas Littleton married Eleanor 'Ellen' Russell 14 Mar 1815 in Cabarrus Co, NC. BUT he was 25 years older and could well have been married previously. He then had 5 possibly 6 children one of which was Levi H.
Your info that the mother of Isaac H's wife was another Scott sister makes the possibility of William and John Arnold being earlier sons look even better.

I show that he also had his last child, Thomas Shelby Littleton 9 Dec 1829 in Cabarrus Co but last week I made contact with someone who said when Eleanor died in 1837, Thomas was granted custody of his youngest children and Thomas S wasn't listed so I'm not sure about him actually being a child so I'm also looking for some reference to who HIS parents might be.

I DID get info that John Arnold's father was a Thomas O Littleton. I have never seen mention of a Thomas O Littleton and I wonder if it might have been misread and was really A for Arnold.

I am trying to get more info on the parents of William and John Arnold and also this Thomas Shelby Littleton. Trying to locate living descendants for either of them that might know parents names. Also looking for death info on William (just got it for John A) naming father. Also trying to find an earlier marriage for Thomas or a death of a possible wife before he married Eleanor Russell.

I have lots of info on this family and other contacts so write me if you want. I'd also love to see where you fit in to this line.

Terry Littleton - tlturbo@aol.com
Admin/sponsor of LITTLETON@rootsweb.com
Looking for help in confirming this ancestor. This is what I have to date. Haven't quite made the connectin although it all looks reasonable. Can anyone help me connect these people definitively?

Catherine Anna O'Neal married Michael Littleton.
From census information, I know Anna was widowed by 1910. Brother-in-law William Littleton living with her family at that time.

I find Michael and William Littleton in only one family (and the correct age range) from Illinois as children of Thomas Littleton:
1860 census Monrow, NY
1870 census for Norton, Illinois
1880 census for Great Oak, Iowa

I know Michael and Anna were married. He died 1903 in South Dakota. It is Michael's parentage I am struggling with.

Thanks so much.

Terry, LeRoy Joseph Littleton is the son of Tillman Littleton. Tillman is the son of Hirum and Nancy Cameron Littleton and came to Stockton CA from Arkansas about 1873 with his mother after their kin were killed in the Meadow Mountain Massacre of about 1857 as part of the Fancher wagontrain. Hiram fought in the Confederacy, but the only record is "absent due to illness". Don't know what happened to him. He did arrive in Johnson County, from Union County reportedly with his brother and father, dates unknown, and his fathers name was John. I believe his brothers name was George and it is reported they were all blacksmiths.

I couldn't find much information about them in Union County, IL. Several Littletons lived in the same area in Union County according to the Census Records of 1830. I recall that at the time Hirum was a young lad. Hopes this helps.

How do I find the information you are developing?

Hi Deb,

Yes, Grant and Rhoda were married, although my husband didn't find out about it until he was an adult. I'm sure it was a big scandal in those days. I'm sorry, I don't know much about Grant because he isn't our relative, but I had heard that he was about 26 when he married and that he might have been from Missouri? Rhoda was born January 18, 1898 in Sheridan WY, or at least near there on her parent's ranch. So, she would have been only 14 when she married! Grant and Rhoda had a baby girl named Geneva on April 13, 1913. Geneva passed away here in Ontario in 2003 at the age of 90! Rhoda and Grant divorced, I think in early 1918, at least around there sometime, because she married my husband's grandfather John Thomas Barnes in Montana in March of 1918. Soon after Rhoda and John moved to Canada, as John Barnes was a Canadian. In 1919 they had a baby girl named Reneta, who was my husband's mother. Geneva did contact an Aloha Littleton, at least, I think that was her name quite a few years back. They would have been half- siblings, and I guess Geneva was looking to find out about her father's family. Sorry, that's all I know, hope it helps. Jana

I have just started researching my ancestor, Levi H. Littleton b. 27 Oct 1822 in N.C. He died on 28 Dec 1903 in Eastland Co., Texas and is buried at the Restland Cemetery, Carbon, Eastland County, Texas.

Levi H. Littleton was married on 5 Oct 1846 to Mary Jane Day, daughter of Isaac Day and his last wife Elizabeth "Betsey" Scott, in Sumner County, TN.

I found a deed in Sumner County, Tn for a John A. Littleton whereas, Levi H. Littleton was named as security. I would like to find out the relationship between my Levi H. Littleton and John A. Littleton. John A. Littleton b. 1807 N.C. and was married to Mary "Pollie" Scott who was the sister to Elizabeth Scott that was married to Isaac Day. Also curious about the William Littleton b. 1805 in N.C. that was married to the other sister, Sarah Scott in Sumner County, TN. Could John A. Littleton and William Littleton be brothers and how are they related to Levi H. Littleton.

Thanks
Cheryl Middleton Lowery

Terry,

Thank you for your reply. My great-great grandmother was Nancy Francis "Nannie" Littleton, daughter of Levi H. Littleton and Mary Jane Day. She married William Ferrell Reese and were living next door to John A. Littleton in the 1880 census in Sumner County, TN. Their son, my great-grandfather, John Whitten Reese. b. 1878 is only 2 yrs old and his brother Willie is only 4 yrs old. I think that you are probably correct that John A., William and Levi Littleton could have been brothers. I found Levy Littleton and family living in Hartsville, Trousdale, TN in the 1880 census with Mary's father, Isaac Day.

Thanks
Cheryl Middleton Lowery
cheryllowery@sbcglobal.net
