Hello Desmond

Your late father's name intrigues me. I have traced a Thomas Locker b 1825 who married Ann Wild b 1821, Ann was the daughter of an 1820 settler. These name coincidences can sometimes be a hint this kicks a search along. What else do you know of your family history. See http://www.1820settlers.com/modules.php?op=modload&name=... for info on Thomas Locker and Ann Wild

regards

Wayne

Re: Locker in Louisa Co., VA 1800's

I believe Dabney was the son of Alexander Locker though I have no proof of this. Alexander was the son of Thomas Locker. Thomas's will (Loudoun Co. Wills Book M) written in 1808 (probated in 1816) lists the following heirs...
Eleanor Locker, Wife
Walter Locker, Son
William Locker, Son
Alexander Locker, Son
Nancy Green, Dau
Mary Locker, Gr-Dau, sister of George
George Locker, Gr-Son, brother of Mary

The 1787 Virginia Tax Census lists William, Alexander, John, and Walter Locker in Loudoun Co., VA. John may have been the deceased father of the grandchildren in Thomas's will as no other grandchildren are listed.

The 1800 federal census index lists brothers Walter and Alexander in Louisa Co., VA. I could not find William.

The 1810 Federal Census finds Alexander still in Louisa Co., but Walter and William are living in Fairfax Co., VA

According to deed records, around 1818, Miles Barden (Walter Locker's brother-in-law), moved his family to Louisa Co., near Alexander Locker.

The 1820 Federal Census still lists Alexander in Louisa Co., but Walter along with a several other Lockers are in Wood Co., VA (now WV). William is just across the Ohio River from Wood Co. in Marietta, Washington Co., Ohio. All three brothers are listed in the age 45 and up column.

In 1830 Federal Census we find Alexander still in Louisa, Co. but William is now in Wood Co. and Walter is not listed (deceased).

By the time the 1840 Census was taken, Alexander (age 60 to 69) is the only surviving son of Thomas Locker.

You say Alexander eventually ended up in Kentucky, how did you come to this conclusion?

Just in case you're curious to know: I descend from Walter Locker.

Rick Ritchie
Marietta, Ohio
Hi shawn... I haven't been on for a while. I know you you're my aunt mary and uncle dick's daughter right? jesse and stacy's mom? jesse, stacy, my brother chris and i (Dave Locker's children) and cousins stephanie and brian (steve locker's kids) played together when we were little and mary and dick would have picnic's at their house with the pond. I think I remember someone saying you were looking into the geneolgy stuff. Too funny. Just in case you haven't heard grandad (paul) isn't doing to well. he broke his hip about 2 weeks ago and hasn't really woken up since the surgery. How's uncle dick and aunt mary doing? Hope you check this.... It's been years since you wrote this to me.. If you have any info on our family geneology on the locker side and could either email it to me jejouelaflute@att.net

or just mail it to me regular mail. (email me and I'll send you my address(dont' want to post address for all to see)) i'd appreciate it. Hope you and stacy and jesse are doing well... how funny you reply it's still a small world even with the internet huh? ;) bye

Sarah Locker

Re: Wilbert and Alpha Locker

There is a Wilbert, Alpha and Carlos Locker in my family tree; however, they are not from Kansas.

Wilbert Locker was my great uncle, although I never met him. He was the brother of my grandfather, Denny Locker. They are two (2) of the twelve (12) children of James Newton Locker and Nancy Jane (Mollie) Davis.

Wilbert was born at Buckeye, Garrard County, Kentucky on 8 December 1894. He passed at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington on 28 August 1981. Wilbert's wife was Alpha M. Oliver born in Virginia (?) on 25 June 1897. She passed at Spokane, Spokane County, Washington on 27 November 1979. Wilbert and Alpha had three (3) children as follows:

Carlos L. Locker (b) 3 March 1920 in Garrard Co., KY
(d) 7 June 1994 in Spokane, Wash.

Freeda L. Locker (b) 23 May 1921 in Garrard Co., KY
(d) 2 June 1921 in Garrard Co., KY

Linroe E. Locker (b) 15 July 1923 in Garrard Co., KY
(d) 1 May 1996 in Jessamine Co., KY

The family moved to Washington state sometime between 1930 and 1940. Maybe they stopped in KS for a while along the way. I hope this doesn't take down a wrong trail.

Hi Jim,

Please read entry on child number 1 carefully. Let me know if you think there is a connection.

Elijah P. Locker and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Henton were married on March 30, 1865 in Washington Co., Ohio. Elizabeth "Lizzie" Henton (daughter of James Henton) was born on July 17, 1827 in England. She died on July 23, 1884 in Ohio. Elijah P. Locker and Elizabeth "Lizzie" Henton had the following children:

1. ______ Locker was born on February 13, 1868 in Harmar Village (Marietta West Side), Washington Co., Ohio. Birth record entry says "Daughter of Elza Locker & Lizzie Hinton." Gender is probably a mistake. Harmar Cemetery book says Elijah and Elizabeth had two children: Pearl born 1863; and Berty, born 1870 (source not given). I did not find any substantiation for Pearl and Elijah A. was born in 1870. This child could be the son Carolyn Conner mentions by the name of Bert. Bert Locker is listed in the 1890 and 1891 Marietta City Directories as a machinist living on Church Street in 1890 and at 123 Maple Street in 1891. He disappears from record after 1891.
2. Elijah A. Locker was born on June 5, 1870 in Washington Co., Ohio.

Thank you Jim. I am reposting the information for the benefit of others who might be looking for this info. The Bert Locker fro Marietta, Ohio was a machinist, the Bert Locker from Portland, Indiana was a welder. Two different Bert Lockers with similar trades.

“Bert LOCKER, a well known blacksmith and welder at Portland, where he has been in business for years, is a native son of Jay county and has lived here all his life. He was born on a farm in Madison township on September 9, 1878, and is a son of Jacob D. and Leara ( FREEMYER ) LOCKER, both of whom were born in that same township, members of pioneer families, and who are still living there. Jacob D. LOCKER is the 'proprietor of a well kept farm of forty acres and is one of the well known men in his community. To him and his wife have been born eleven children, all of whom are living save two, Oliver and Ethel, the others besides the subject of this sketch being Jesse, Andrew, Vernie, Leo, Blanche, Minnie, Elsa and Vera. Reared on the home farm, Bert LOCKER received his schooling in the old Center school in Madison township and in the schools of Portland and as a young man left the farm and began working in the Bimel factory at Portland, continuing there for about six months, at the end of which time he began to learn the blacksmith trade under Lewis COOK and perfected himself in the details of that craft. After about eight years of service for others in this line Mr. LOCKER decided to begin operations on his own behalf and bought the Doctor CULBERT blacksmith shop on East Main street and started in business for himself. He remained at that location for about seven years and then bought the shop he has since been operating at 121 East North street, where he has one of the best equipped blacksmith and welding shops in this part of the state. His machinery is electrically equipped and he has his own generator for the acetylene welding done in his place. Mr. LOCKER is a Democrat and has ever given a good citizen's attention to local civic affairs. On November 17, 1900, Bert LOCKER was united in marriage to Anna GOWDY, who was born in Iowa, daughter of Aldon and Eliza (KREAMER ) GOWDY, and to this union two children have been born, Gladys, born on December 25, 1901, and John, June 14,1904.

SOURCE: Milton T.
Locker or Locher of France

I am searching for information on Marie or Mary Locher or Locker. She was born 20 August 1844, probably in Versailles.

She married August Fayet on 17 January 1864. I am not sure where they were married. August was born in Paris.

August and Mary immigrated from France to the U.S. around 1874. They originally came to Pennsylvania but moved to Illinois and, finally, to Alabama.

They both died in Jefferson County, AL and are buried in Pratt City Fraternal Cemetery.

I know very little about Mary Locher. If you think you have any information about her or her family, I would love to hear from you.

Thanks,
Katherine

Locker in Louisa Co., VA 1800's

Dabney Locker, B abt 1811 in VA married Mary Parrot and after her death Susan BIbb, dau of Thomas Bibb. He was a blacksmith as was his son John, and later a farmer. Also in Louisa Co., was a David Locker, an asst farmer b abt 1800 in VA, John Locker b about 1819 and a blacksmith, and a Nelson Locker that was surety for Elizabeth Locker, dau of Alexander Locker and Richard Snow, I have no dates for Alexander, but four of his dau were married in Louisa Co. VA and he appeared on the 1820, 1830, 1840, and 1850 Census records in Louisa Co., VA. In 1860, in Carter Co., KY one Andrew Locker b about 1795 in VA shows up with his wife Sarah age 59 that was also born in VA with six children; Among their names are Alexander and Nelson. In 1850, in Lincoln Co., MO, one Nelson Locker b about 1813 in VA and a blacksmith shows up. He married Nancy White in 1847 in MO. Because of the names identified in Louisa Co., VA and the trade of blacksmith occurring, I wonder what the connection is among these folks. Can anyone help me with them, especially the ancestors of Dabney Locker (Locher).

Re: Locker Family in Ohio/Va/Md

My 3 greats grandfather was Phillip Locker who farmed in Shelby County Ohio. They moved to Christian County Illinois about 1836. He died there about 1850. There are dozens of Lockers buried in a little country cemetery there. How do you descend from the original Thomas Lockyer who settled in Prince George's County Maryland in the 1640's?
