Alexander Lockhart - Beaver County, PA

Alexander Lockhart 1769 - 11 Apr 1832 (source: Cemetery Records, Georgetown Cemetery, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, available on www.ancestry.com.)

Wife Phebe born 1760-1770, died 13 Jan 1847 (source for death : Cemetery Records, Georgetown Cemetery, Beaver County, Pennsylvania, available on www.ancestry.com.)
There is a record in "Chester County, Pennsylvania Wills, 1713-1825" for Alexander Lockhart, Esquire, who died 2 May 1814, West Nantmel. Alexander Lockhart (Jr.?) was the Administrator.

1820 Census (Hanover Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania): Alex Lockhart.

1830 Census (Hanover Township, Beaver County, Pennsylvania): Alexander Lockhart, age 60-70, male 5-10, female 30-40, female 20-30, 2 females under 5. Not sure where Phebe was, or if they put the mark in the wrong column.

Pheby Lockhart was in the 1840 census in Hanover, Beaver County, Pennsylvania. She was between 70 and 80. She was head of household with several younger people.

Document found at Salt Lake City archives: Land indenture made Feb. 19, 1841, between "Andrew Robb and Jane his wife, late Jane Lockhart, a daughter and heir at law of Alexander Lockhart, deceased of Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and Jeptha Lockhart" of the same place. Jane inherited a share of her father's land and sold it to Jeptha Lockhart. Jeptha may have been Alexander's nephew.

My grandmother Minnie Mae Lockart (1908) was the grandaughter of Captain Anderson and Christianna. She was born in Aiken and raised by CA and Christianna. My Grandmothers mother was Lea Lockart. My grandmother moved to NJ which is were all of her children were born.

Please let me know if you come across any connections to my Great-Grandfather Jonathan (Pete) Lockhart. We believe he was born in the early 1860's, but we don't have anything to verify this. We do know that my Great-Grandfather married Mary Rossetta Hornbuckle September 14, 1886, and she lived in Bowie County, Texas. Some how they ended up getting married in Polk County (Livingston) Texas. I also noticed some resemblance in the names you listed. My Great-grandfather had children with simliar names. He had a son named: James William Lockhart, Robert Lee Lockhart, and my Great-Grandfather's name or nickname was Pete. Please keep in touch.

My name is Wesley Lockhart, and I am curious as to my lineage. My father's name was Lawrence Edward Lockhart, his father was Arville Lockhart, he had a brother named Pete. I wonder if this is the same Pete you are looking for.
I can only trace my Lockhart roots as far as back as Hardin, Texas.

I have just started! I was going through some old pictures my aunt had given me and begin very very interested in my ancesters. I was trying to find something free on line, but I don't think there is such a thing as a trus "free site". Do you know of any? The Horace Lester Lockhart I'm searching for has eight brother & sisters. Jenny, Lucy, Lillie, Mariah, Sallie, Ida, Sullivan and Mal. Do these names sound familiar to you? The only info that I have, I found in the US census. The 1870 US census shows Isaac Lockhart, born 1815 in NC and was living in MT. Pleasant, Marshall CO., MS in 1870 with Eliza Lockhart, born 1835 in VA. I don't know whether she was a daughter or a wife. She had six children there also, Ralph(1855), Mary(1857) my gg-grandmother, Charles(1860), William(1862), Martha(1864) and Lee(1866). All the children were born in MS.

The 1880 census, Shows Isaac to be in Madison, AL with his dughter, Susan(1849)born in AL, and her two children, Sally Bet Lockhart(1868) born in AL, Wesley Lockhart(1868) also born in AL.

I don't know if this is the same Lockhart that you are related to or not, but Madison, AL is common link for us. Please let me know if you can find a link.

Sounds like there may be a connection. Our Mariah and Horace Lester come from Madison County Alabama, near Huntsville. There are lots of descendants still in that area. What about you? Where do you trace your ancestors?

You seem to know the history of the Lockhart name, I can see you are very good at research, so I thought I would go for a stab in the dark, I have hit a rock wall, I have a John Lockhart born around 1730 in the Carolina are, he married Elizabeth Martin, They had two children: Andrew Lockhart Born abt. 1757, and John Lockhart born abt.1759 in South Carolina, and later traveled to Warren County Tn.I noticed that John(the son of John) had a grandson by the name Vance McDonald Lockhart. My Napoleon Bonaparte Lockhart first appears in Talbot Co. Georgia in 1850. I had siscounted the Alabama Lockharts until I figured I needed to revisit all the information available now. Genealogy on the Internet has really been enhanced since 1985! :-) One of the documents I review recently shows Napoleon Bonaparte Lockhart from Talbot Co. GA enlisting in the Union Army in 1855, from Atauga Co. I've tested my Lockharts DNA extensively. If I can find a Male Lockhart who can trace his ancestry through the Male line to the family in AL., I'd like to get a DNA Sample.

In any case, since I now think there must be a link between the families, I'd like your help! It is time for my BRICKWALL to tumble. :-)

Joe and Ossie had a son James b. 1911 d. 1944 ,who was my biological grandfather. James was murdered in 1944.I am trying to find out if James had any other children other than my father. It seem unlikely, but are you looking for Napolean Lockhart, born in Alabama around 1828, died in the War Between the States in TN in 1862? His wife was Mary / Emily Hall. If this is the right person, I have lots of information on both his ancestors and his descendants. Let me know.

Isaac Lockhart was my ggg- grand, or maybe my gggg-grandfather. He was born in 1815 in NC. The 1870 us census had him in Mt. Pleasant,Marshall County, MS with wife or daughter, Eliza, born 1835 in VA. There were also several lockhart children, Ralph,Mary(1857, my gg-grandmother),Charles(1860),Martha(1864)and three others that I can't find info on at the present. In 1880 Isaac was in AL with daughter, and her two kids. Thats all that I can find on him.

My gg-grandmother, Mary Lockhart(Molly), was born in Mt Pleasant, MS in 1857. Her mother was Eliza ----? The earliest record that I've been able to find of her is the 1870 US census. She lived at the above location with her mother and Isaac Lockhart. She had a brother named Charlie Lockhart. Isaac was born in NC in 1815. The 1880 census showed that he was in AL living with another daughter and her two kids. I don't have any other info on him. Eliza was born in VA in 1835. He could have been her father or her husband.

I have just found your reply regarding William Lockhart and Caroline Martin Potter, to whom you are related via Edward their son. I am related by marriage - my husband, Gary is related through the line of Thomas Martin Lockhart, Edward's brother.
Thomas Martin Lockhart's son William Henry, is my husband's grandfather. Gary's father, Thomas George Raymond Lockhart (Ray) is 94 and in amazingly good form, but knows little of his family on his father's side which is why I started doing this.
Would love to compare notes on this. I look forward to hearing from you.

Amos Lockhart was my dad's uncle he was my grandpa Cagie Lockhart's brother. His last residence was in Minden, Louisiana. He had 9 children that I knew of, some are still living in Minden. His wife was Clara Lockhart.

Have you ever heard of Amos Lockhart or any Lockharts in the Miami, FL area? From what I understand, Amos was fair skinned, and very tall with thick eye brows. He was in the military in the 1950s. He would probably be between 70-80 years old now. Please let me know if you find out anything...thanks.

So does this Amos Lockhart fit my description: tall, fair-skinned, long eye lashes, in the military (possibly Navy) in the 1950's, parents may have lived in the Miami area, may have lived in Georgia at some point, and was probably born between 1920 and 1930? OK...I see the Amos Lockhart you are looking at in the 1930 census. Amos and Clara had a son named Amos who was born in 1923. He would be 86 if living today. That would make Amos Jr. your dad's first cousin.

Sorry, but I don't know of any Amoses in our tree. Nor do I know of our folks having early links to Florida. Our family came out of Alabama and spread out, mostly to West Virginia, New Jersy, Ohio and Mississippi.

Sorry, but I don't know of any Amos in our family tree or people from Texas. Our roots are firmly planted in Alabama.

Our matriarch, Mariah, was a Cherokee Indian, as the story goes. She had 11 children on the Lockhart plantation near Harvest, Ala. It's certainly possible that would we could have some common roots.
