How far back can you trace the Logan line?

My great-grandfather was also Ulysses Simpson Grant Logan. My grandfather was John Edward Logan.

In my search, the line dead ends with a "John Logan" in 1728 who was born in Scotland.

Hey there, Henry Logan descendants -
I am trying to get my info together for the DAR. Henry Logan b. 20 Apr 1740 parents were Andrew Logan and Alida Pruyn. Anyone else working on this line for the DAR or SAR?
I will have the documentation for military service in a few weeks. Anyone descended through the Harwick line? Maybe we could pool our info and help each other.

Mary Logan

hello there, I am looking for the family link that has so far been elusive. My 3rd great grandmother

Amanda Melvina WILLIAMS

Birth 31 Oct 1841 in Brooke County, West Virginia, USA
Death 8 Jan 1929 in Majorsville, Marshall, West Virginia, USA

claimed her mother was one "Mary Logan". She was a decendant of Chief Logan. The name Williams comes from an adoptive parent.

Amanda apparently was either orphaned and/or adopted by a white family the Williams family.

my grandfather was always allowed to hunt on the native lands etc in his area all his life due to this tie.

but I'm having a hard time finding the actual documentation.

you can view her on my tree (i have a photo there) my tree is public.

anyway if anyone has any ideas or where to look for leads I would really love to know.

thank you!

:Yes, we are connected. I am not sure this is the line or not. I also found Williams marriage license says he was born in Meigs County. On census, James Logan and Cinna Logan and William, and another man in the household. That line goes to Indiana to a Thomas Logan I believe.

The line in Gallipolis is black, but my cousin said the native americans back then passed as black not native americans. So I have two lines that could possible be the line of William Edward and Emmma Mae Logan who were in the Gallipolis Childrens home in the 1800's. Hope you are still on here and researching I know it has been a while. I was working when I started this, but am retired now.
Hello,

I also have two of your exact names in my family tree. John Wesley Logan (Chief Logan) and Mary Angeline Miller Logan. I am the grand-daughter of Mable Ann Jeanette Taylor Lawrence, born in 1912, who was a decendant of John Wesley Logan and Mary Angeline Miller Logan. My grandmother's family reside in different parts of the US. It is to my understanding that Chief Logan was of the Shawnee Indians and some of his tribe migrated to South Carolina. My grandmother's parents were John and Ellen Taylor and she had 2 sisters Katharine and Florence. If any of these names sound familiar or ring a bell please fee free to send me an email at clynn2111@yahoo.com or shockie2004@yahoo.com.
David C. Logan Circa 1812, Philadelphia

Looking for information on David C. Logan born about 1812 in PA, married Mary (?) also born in PA and they had children Elizabeth, Ephraim, George, Mary E, and Lewis(Louis) while living in Northern Liberties area of Philadelphia. This is according to the Census of 1850. The Census of 1960 shows that David C. Logan moved to Ohio with the younger three children plus a new wife or else she used Catharine instead, dropped 10 years of age and changed her birth state to NJ. Help on David C. Logan and Mary (?) would be appreciated so that I can extend my line to see where we originated. I would also appreciate any information those who went to Ohio, and where their lines went. David is my 3rd Great Grandfather.

My husband's grandmother was Sarah Logan Geyer, sister to David G. Logan. Here is the data I have been able to obtain thus far.
John Logan (b Ireland, Mar 1848 or 1850 d Wilkinsburg PA) married Anna E Talbert? (b 1851? in PA d 1885?). Their children were: David G. (b 1874 in PA); James (b Sep 1876 in PA); Sarah J (b Jan 1879); Robert (b May 1882); Catharine E (b Jun 1885). Anna must have died shortly after Catharine's birth.

John then married Martha Elizabeth Ray (b Sep 1861). Their children were: Anna (b May 1889); William J (b Sep 1891); Lester H (b Apr 1893); Howard R (b Feb 1898).

I have other information as to dates of death, etc. I don't know if any of this information is of help to you after all these years, but I have just discovered the Message Board and had been going through 1,600+ when I chanced upon yours. Would be happy to share what I have.

My great grandmother, Henrietta Logan, emigrated to Canada in 1873 with her husband, John McCluskie and their 4 sons, Alexander, John, William and James. They had 6 more children in Canada, all daughters, including my grandmother, Elizabeth.

Henrietta Logan was born in Ayrshire 13 Aug 1846, the daughter of William Logan (1819-1894) and Mary Craig (1817-1879). There were 13 other children in the family.

Her father, William, was the son of William Logan and Mary Young, probably born around 1785.

Any chance we have some Logans in common?

Linda

I am researching Joseph Logan and Susan Ford Logan in
gallipolis Ohio.
Son william Edward Logan born 1876 this info from
Gallia co. historical society.

Susan was a widow, and went to
Columubs Ohio. buried in greenlawn cemetery.
Rocords say she is a negro. and a widow.
I cannot find anything on Joseph, so don't know if he is a negro or Indian? Her parents are Spencer and ada ford.
Spencer buried in New Hope Cemetery in Gallipolis, she also buried in Gallipolis. I think he is negro I don't know about her. I was told in those days indians passed as negro so I don't know......

Williams marriage cert. said he was born in meigs county ohio. He is on census as one month old with James Logan and Cinna Logan. Also in the census is William Boland who is seventy years old. These two were married in Indiana. In Indiana he is listed with Cinna as David J. Logan. There is also a James Logan who is 49 on one of the census's James was listed as 23 and Cinna was listed as 21.

I have not checked WV or Virginia census for Williams birth.
That is all I have.

I have some ancestry work that was done in 1966 by Dan Logan of Newtownabby, N Ireland. Daniel Logan 1793-1880 remarried to Mary Todd. Dan's mother was Mary Todd. His first marriage was with Betty Sharp, 1800-1871. Dan Logan included some history and some legal transfer of property etc.

I also have Photos of Daniel Logan (1825-1910) and Phebe VanPelt (1831-1909.

If you want a copy of the research or photos; drop me an email at wilma.fineberg@gmail.com

I am researching the line of William Logan but unsure if this is my line or not since so many Logans in Gallia and the surrounding counties.

I have a william Edward Logan born in
Gallipolis ohio in 1876. Parents were Joseph Logan and Susan Ford. Susan's parents were Spencer and Ada Ford.

Susan was a widow and lived in Columbus Ohio on Champion Avenue and was buried in Greenlawn Cemetery.

I do not know if this is my line or not as Susan was colored. I have hit a dead end on Joseph Logan, so dont know if he was white or colored. Have no records of his death..... also have a lead on a LOgan in Meigs County, so am leaving no stone unturned.

In fact, the Parish Records for this couple are in Scotland and their children are all born bet. 1683 and 1707 in Ayrshire, Ary, Scotland. Do you have another couple of the same name only the wife you say is ALICE not Agnes, that live in Lurgren Ireland? I would love to know more about them. Joan Logan

Cathie,

The only David Logan I have was born 18 May 1706 and died in 1757. He married Jane McKinley born 18 May 1715 and died 1779. David's father was John Logan born abt. 1689
and Alice Richmont born Abt. 1693. As you can see, he was born when his mother was about age 13. If you subtract 3 years (his christening date), she would be mighty young. As you have probably learned, the Todds were a prolific tribe and used the same name over and over and over.

Ken Anderson

Logan, who was born in Wayne County, Missouri, in 1821 and died in 1910 at age 89 in Mohave County, Arizona, at which place he'd practiced law and served several terms as the county's probate judge after arrival in 1875, years after a residency in California that included a stint in the state legislature as a senator from Tehama County, beginning in 1860. His unnamed family members moved with many others in the clan from Missouri to Arkansas about 1830. He departed Arkansas in 1849 (after being admitted to the state bar in 1845) for the gold fields of California, and seems to have spent most of his years there in mining, which practice he continued to pursue after his arrival in Arizona. All of the above comes from very old Arizona newspaper accounts. Can you help me? Cletis R. Ellinghouse.
