Logan Records

I was “gifted” with a box of genealogy having to do with one of my family lines after a researcher passed away. In the box is also a lot of other family lines that aren’t mine. I’ve sorted them into folders as best I can and here are the surnames and a little about them if I can tell much.

Buttrey – Wilkes Co NC (small file – letters)
Bailey – Topeka Kansas, New Castle, Pa, Youngstown, Ohio (small file, letters)
Loveless – Columbus Ohio, Washington Co., Va (small file, letters)
Wilderich – Henry Wiederick or Wilderick, b Germany 1858, pedigree chart (small file)
Hildebrand – Morgan County, Missouri, John Hildebrand b 1822 in Baden Germany m Victoria Anhauser or Enghauser – (thick file, quite a bit of research)
Trabuc/Trabue – Edward Trabue b 1764, son of John, married Martha Haskins, Jessamine Co., Ky and Va.
King – Joseph King m 1819 to Frances, Lincolnshire England
Nichols – Abner JeffersonNichols b 1837 probably Alabama, poss Missouri or Ark. (2 pages)

The ones below seem to be grouped together as I've grouped them. I would presume that these files in the groups would go to a researcher as a unit.

Group 1:
Smith – Thomas Leslie Smith, Missouri, born Pittsylvania Co, Va to John Wesley Smith and Sally Saunders Claytor Leftwich
Leftwich – Bedford Co., Va.
Gregory – includes Minter, Adair Co., Ky, other Ky counties, Powhatan Co, Va., John Gregory Rev War Vet, (quite a bit of research)
Minter – Fayette County, Ky, Powhatan Co, Va.
Jessyka:

Here are the Census records for 1840 & 1830.

You'll notice 3 other Logan's listed on the 1830 Census, that certainly could be related to Charles.
David Sr. could be his Father and Matthew & David Jr. his Brothers.
Delila Logan b. 1795 N.C. and husbands info

I am searching as far back as I can for our Logan family tree, in hope to locate the names of two brothers who came over from Ireland! I have made it as far back as Delila Logan b. 1795 in N.C. as well as her children. However, I have not found anything that shows her husbands name! I don't have a maiden name for Delila either, so I'm hoping that finding that may lead me to marriage records(?).

I know that her husband was born in Kentucky (listed on 1880 census Franklin, Arkansas for Francis Marion Logan, Delila's son).I have found all her children's names from the 1850 census but I am having a difficult time locating birth records that would show a name of the father.

I know that Delila Logan and her children (all seven of them) resided in Wayne City, Missouri until 1850. The 1860 census only shows one of her children (John Logan) still residing in Wayne City. I finally found Delila on the 1870 and 1880 census in Shelby, AL along with a Elza Logan and a S.D. Logan. Not sure who they are or how they are related.

Delila's children:
John Logan b. 1821
Hugh Logan b. 1823
Lucinda Logan b. 1827
Delphea Logan b. 1829
Bethelana Logan b. 1832
William Logan b. 1833
Frances Marion Logan b. 1836

The only info I can find on the children is Frances Marion (whom I am directly descended) and Lucinda (a marriage to George W. Vick in Shelby, AL in 1853).

If anyone can help with information regarding any member of this family, but especially a husbands name for Delila and her maiden name that would be so helpful.
Thanks
Jessyka

Hi Lora,
I just happened upon your response to Heather Logan while researching my Logan line. Delila Logan is as far back as I have found for our lineage. I have found the census with the children listed, but was desperately trying to find birth records to any of her children in hope to find the name of her husband.
You mentioned in your message that her husband's name was John Logan. Have you found something proving this? If so please share! :) I am new at this, and am sort of stuck. Our Logan family started with two brothers coming over from Ireland/Scotland. My goal is to find out who they were and where they came from. Any help or advice would be very appreciated!
Thank you so much
Jessyka
my email is proudlogan@gmail.com

I can't see any connection with my own Ayrshire Logan ancestors, but you might like to consider

William Logan m Mary Reid, Stevenston, Ayrs, 22.3.1811
children -
Ann Shaw L, b 23.9.1813
Mary L, b 29.9.1815 (may have m William Thomson, 18.7.1835)
Agnes L, b 28.3.1818 (may have m William Glasper, 6.4.1839)
John Reid L, b 2.5.1826 (m Agnes McKean, 29.12.1848)
no sign of Hamilton L, but there's a big gap between Agnes and John Reid (who looks like the John in your 1841 Census).

William L may be the son of Peter Logan & Agnes Pennal, b 21.10.1786. I note he was still alive in 1861, so you should be able to obtain a copy of his death certificate, which will (if the informant knows the answers) name his parents; the identity of the informant may also be useful.

Mary Reid is likely to have been the daughter of John Reid and Jean or Margaret Hamilton, b 11.1.1783 (older than the 1841 Census suggests, but consistent with the 1851 Census, which is more reliable). The connection between the names of that Mary's parents and your Mary's children is obvious.

I hope that's of some help.

Jana,
Do you know where this Benjamin McCarty was born? I have several Benjamin McCarty's, one born in 1858 in Wayne County, IA. The Benjamin McCarty I mentioned in the e-mail I sent direct to you was much older than the Benjamin you mentioned as being born in 1860. By 1860, there were a lot of McCarty's that descended from old Darby in Virginia.

George Madden

She has a younger sister named margaret, and has two daughters, Virginia Burd (married to Simeon K. Burd), and Margaret Kerlin (Married to Henry T. Kerlin) but that is all i've found. I am trying to find the name of her father for college application reasons, so if you know anything i would be greatful to find out about it.

I have hit a brick wall in my research and I wonder if anyone can help me. I can't seem to find the maiden name of my great-great grandmother, Blanche. She was married to Edward LOGAN. They were the parents of Homer LOGAN (my great grandfather), Arthur LOGAN, Frederick LOGAN, Mabel LOGAN, Bert LOGAN, and Wilbur LOGAN. The only info I have on Blanche is that she was born about Dec. 1870 in Connecticut and she and Edward LOGAN were married somewhere around 1885-1886. She passed away about 1952 in Winchester, Litchfield County, Connecticut. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Ky but it lists his wife as Sarah (maybe a second wife)
if this is the same John Logan i am looking for it has his father listed as James Logan born in Ky and mother as unknown Cox also born in Ky. John's birthdate on the death certificate is listed as March 14, 1854 and death date 9/17/1928.....
If anyone can make a connection with this line of Logans or the Lewellen/Lewallen line please contact me at roxcar@cox.net

Thanks, Roxane

AYRSHIRE, SCOTLAND Logan's Before 1841?!?

Hello all. I was doing wonderful in finding my ancestors in the scottish censuses, but it seems they just stop at 1841! Does anyone know of a way to find anymore information of that nature? Or perhaps you can help my family and I fill in where the censuses leave off. I could use any information on this family BEFORE 1841. This is what I have till then:

Logan’s from Ayrshire, Scotland:

William Logan (b.1786) and Mary _____ (b.1791)

Their children in 1841 were:
Hamilton Logan (b.1822)
John Logan (b.1826)

Hamilton Logan married William Kelly (b.1821)

There children were:
John Kelly/Logan (b.1842) (possibly not William’s son)
Sarah Kelly (b.1846)
Ann Kelly (b.1851)
Mary Kelly (b.1853)
Elizabeth Kelly (b.1858)
William Kelly (b.1863)
Charles Kelly (b.1866)
Robert Kelly (some discrepancy on his dob, once had him listed as being born in 1860
another in 1841… possibly had 2 sons named Robert?)

Elizabeth Kelly had 4 children with an unknown person/persons:

Ann Kelly (b.1880) (possibly died in infancy)
Robert Kelly (b.1884)
George W. Kelly (b.1887)
Margaret Kelly (b.1890)

Elizabeth Kelly later marries Daniel Rafferty (b.1855), but I don’t believe they have any children.

Robert Kelly immigrates to the US about 1906 goes by Robert Logan Kellie.

Thank You to anyone that has information!!! :)

Re: George W Logan

OH GOSH!!! I am so sorry I didn't see this sooner. My dad, George William Logan, died on August 10, 2006. He could have told you stories about some of those ten children. Charles Francis was my grandfather, but he died when my dad was just a boy. I remember Aunt Bess (Elizabeth) and Aunt Alice from my childhood. Bess left home when she was young and disappeared. When she returned for a visit after thirty-five years or so she said had married a man in Ukiah, California, named Hayden, who ran a horse racing track. She was widowed by the 1970's and never had any children. Theodore was called Uncle "Spide" because he had long skinny legs, as I recall Dad saying. I will have to get information from my mother's home, but I may be able to fill in some of your holes.
BTW, why does your name sound familiar? Have we met at family reunion or something?
