Hi Margaret,

I am wanting to trace my Lazaretti roots and was wondering if you had any family history that may be able to help me.

It would appear that my family lived at various times in Italy, Greece, & Crete...but I can't seem to get a break-through even though I have a reasonable amount of information eg: Names/places of birth/dates/profession, etc etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards
John Kingston

William Loiry

I found Susan Knopshneider's father. His name is Conrad. I found where he came to America by ship. No record of Susan on that vessel. I did hear that William came to america through Canada. He was supposed to be a deserter from Napoleon's Army. He did indeed marry Susan in Somerset Pa. She is buried in Twin Cemetary. Outside the church. Her head stone has been destroyed. There is no record of where William is buried.

When I read your post, I felt like I went back in time to my original family. I am the legal adopted grandaughter of Aristide and Emilie (Loire) Rivoire. My adopted mother was Adeline Clotilde (Rivoire) Lenk.
One of her relatives was my Aunt Winifred Loire. My adopted Mom's father was Aristide and her mother was Emilie (Loire) Rivoire. I tried to find out whatever happened to Grandpa Aristide for a long time. He disappeared, and Mom thought he probably went back to Paris, where she said he was from. My Mom, Adeline, died in 1975. My Uncle Raymond Rivoire was my mom's brother. I remember he was married to a woman named Norma, and I met her once a very long time ago in California when Uncle Raymond was still alive. Uncle Raymond was disabled because of malaria he caught in the service years before, and also because of a severe beating from a mugging he had received while in the service when he came home, and I remember that Norma had a disability also. I hope this information helps you, and I'm very glad to connect with you about this.
I cannot help you, but there is a book dealing with William A. Loiry and Susannah and their descendants. I found it at the LDS Library in Salt Lake City, UT. Perhaps a copy is available in the OH State Archives.

Title: Hoffman and Related Families
Compiled by: Isaac Barnett Ellis
Published: Pittsburg, Kansas
1994
Call number: 929.273 H 675

I am a descendant as well. William Loire came from France about 1803; met Susan (or Susannah) Knopshneider from Germany on the ship; landed in Philadelphia; moved to Ohio. Changed his name to William Loiry. Descendants on my side are Samuel Loiry, Charles Loiry, Samuel William Loiry, Dr. David A. Loiry, and myself - William Samuel Loiry. I'm trying to continue the lineage, but need a wife.

According to the 1830 and1840 censuses of Milford Twp., Somerset County, PA, Wm. and Sus. had 2 female children under the age of 10. Nowhere have I been able to find their names. Can you help? My husband's Miller family in Missouri in providing biographical information gave their mother's name as Louisa Laury (originally Loire and father from France) Louisa was born in 1822 and abt 1840 married John Thomas Miller. They had 4 children in Somerset County before moving to Athens County, OH, where they had 3 more. The last was my husband's grandfather--Winfield Scott MIller. In the 1860 Athens census, a William Lowry was with them and 29 years of age.

Loire/Loiry

Jeanne

It doesn't sound like a connection can be made. My Loires changed to name to Loiry as soon as they came to America. The immigrant William that I mentioned was the father of Samuel Austin Loiry, born in Somerset Co. PA in 1827, moved to Athens County, OH. Married Lois Gray in 1856, fought for the Union in the Civil War. Died in Ross Co. OH in 1919. Most descendants stayed in Ohio (as far as I know.) It's possible that my William could be related to your ancestor back in France at some point. Sorry we can't help each other much right now, but let's keep our messages archived in case a connection can be made later. Thanks!

Hi-
Was so glad to hear from a possible Loire
descendent. My great grandfather came from
Paris, France. His name was Philibert A. Loire. Born 8/15/1829 - died 6/15/13 in
St. Louis, MO. In fact, all of his decendents for the next several generations
stayed in St. Louis mostly. I could give you more details, but my great grandfather
was the first. Hope the Ohio Loire/Loiry family is a connection.
I will look forward to your reply.
Jeanne Loire Price
