I am hoping to connect with the families of my great grandmother's siblings and in-laws. She was Avis G. Loker, born in 1889 in Hersey, Michigan. There was a family member who had a dairy farm in or near Battle Creek, MI, as well.

There was a Dr. Jonas Loker killed at Bunker Hill (Breed's and a Isaac Loker a Capt(?) of horse who turned out in the early alarm at Lexington. There are Loker members involved in the French and Indian War in Mass.

I would and I know the other's doing research would love to see your work. AsI said there is an extensive family tree on Rootsweb. From this page punch "Family Trees" and then enter Looker

Thanks for the response. Lets see what we can work out, I'm located in the Maryland area.

Hi Zell22? I'm new to this site so forgive me if I'm not formating it right. I'm getting pre-senior moments you know. As for the info you sent me, some of those names I do remember. I have documentation on a John Loker in the 1600's. A couple others you listed I have too. I have a Cpt.Isacc Loker and a couple enlisted names that served in the civil war and a list of battles some faught in. To be honest, I haven't done work on this topic in years. I travel a lot but when I get home I'll look up my files and make a data sheet to send you. I have everything in hard copy as I started it over 30 years ago when I still lived in the area. I logged over 500 names in the tree but tried to stay with my last name as the base. When it came to Uncles, Cousins, etc. I kept very little as it went into the 1000's. I'll keep in touch, thanks. Steve Loker

Steve you do need to post your inquiry to Steven Loker referenced in the rootsweb postings for Loker. he may have have some UK branches to aid you. Of course we would like to share. The We referenced are researchers in both the UK and USA.

We have nothing on the origin of the family in Germany although Loker Belgium has been mentioned as it would appear some Loker members may have been in the clothing trades on migration to the US. A connection between a Lucar family and the Loker clan is a posibility with regard to a London park donated by a Lucar to the city. The first migrants to America appear in the 1630's in the Mass. Bay Colony and those folks where Elizabeth, widow of Henry, and a Henry and John to name a few. Over the years historical documents have referenced Loker as Looker many times. On a Wiliam and John settled on Long Island in the Dutch colony
of New York in the late 1600's you find both usages. In the early 1700 on the migration to Virginia you find Looker being used. Also in New York state we find a lot of Lookers as vell as Lokers.

I need data on the Looker/loker families in New York that migrated to New Jersey in very early 1700. Given names William, Willian JR., John, Othneil,Nathaniel,Johnston or Eleazer. The last four are revelotionary war vets.

I would suggest you go Rootsweb Family page and search the Looker Family pages for hits on your subjects. We are most interested in your research.

Write me at ZELL22@VERIZON.NET if I can help you further.

I did some extensive research on the Loker line when I was in highschool. My line goes back in New York before 1790. Sometime before they came from Far Northern Germany. There were many mis-spellings of the name but one kept showing up as the family crest for "Lucas" (north-west Gernamy). I also found some emigrated to England. Had some records in Europe from about 1400's, that's as far back as I went. I never conected the dots but there was a great deal of evedance they would conect. The line in New York is much smaller now as the last 3 generations were one boy only and several girls. I have done my best to start it over with 3 boys.

Re: James B. Loker -Civil War, Arrested

Edward I don’t if I have ever sent you answer or not, I know it’s been a long time and I’m sorry for that, so in case you have not receive one here is the info on James from the Civil War.

James B. Loker was arrested by Major Chapman in Saint Mary's County, Md., and was committed to the Old Capitol Prison by order of General Porter December 21, 1861. The charges against Loker were that his sympathies and sentiments were decidedly with the rebels; that he owned a boat upon the Potomas River which was used with his knowledge and consent to take men and contraband goods to the rebel army; that Loker himself took a man over the river whom he knew was to join the rebels; that at the time of his arrest a large number of letter were found in his boat which were intended for the enemy, conveying important information to them. Information having been received that the wife of Loker had died in Baltimore an order was issued from the Department of State February 6, 1862, directing the provost - marshal at Washington to release said Loker on his parole for five days to attend the funeral of his wife. February 10, 1862, on the application of Major - General Dix, a further parole for thirty days was granted to said Loker on his taking the oath of allegiance to the United States. The said James B. Loker remained on his parole February 15, 1862, when in conformity with the order of the War Department of the preceding day he was transferred to the charge of that Department. (Ordered released February 21, 1862. Released February 22, 1862.)
We have traced our ancestry to James Burke Looker born May 15, 1791. An obituary for Edmund Burke Looker, his son, says Edmund was born in New York City, and that Edmund's parents died when he was an infant and he was raised by his grandparents. We know James was married in 1807 in Essex Co., NJ to Phebe Hedden. His father may have been Isaac Looker. We think there were relatives in New York because we have accounts of visits Edmund made there. We would appreciate learning about any connections you find between New Jersey and New York or elsewhere before 1811. Most likely the Looker ancestors came from Europe but we haven't found that ancestor yet.

William had a daughter named Janet Lilburn who married George Loker, son of William Loker and Elizabeth Parrott Smith. I have from the 1820 census that George and Janet had 3 sons. I have some decendants of son, William Nepolean Loker, born 1817 and son, George Hannibal Loker, born 1819. I also have information on William Lilburn during the Revolutionary War.

I would be glad to exchange information.
Cheers Barb,
I see that you have posted to RootsWeb that George Loker and Janet Thompson were married 31 December 1805.

George Loker and Janet Lilburn were married 12 December 1815. That would make George still a child and too young to be married.

My George Loker and Janet Lilburn had at least three sons before 1820 on the Federal Census. On this Census George would have been closer to 45 years in age or he would have been born between 1775 and 1794 according to the census between the age of 26 to 45.

I would be glad to compare what you have to what I have.
Thanks,
Elsie

They are also the parents of my Mary Loker, the wife of Truman Burnes.

Here's the ascendcy that I have for George Loker:

George Loker m. ?
son of Wm Loker & Janet Thompson
son of Wm Loker & Eliz. Parrott Smith

Elizabeth Parrott Smith is the daughter of James Smith and Mary Parker b. 1704 d. 1772. The Parkers tie into the Greenfield, Storer and Truman families.

I would be happy to share the info that I have.

Barb Price

A number of us are researching Looker/Loker family here in the US and Great Britian. You might want to get in that loop. I am most interested in William followed by William Jr. , what additional can you furnish? Do either of these Williams have connection with Conn., Mass., Long Island, New Jersey prior to them comming to Maryland? Did they migrate westward to the valley of Virginia in the 1750's? Are they connected to the Thomas who registered ear markings for livestock in Maryland?

Our research and some recently published books do not, in my opinion, show any connections with the Lokers in New England to those found in Maryland and Virginia.

I'd love to see some data connecting the Lokers in New England with those of Maryland and Virginia.

Ed. I have all the paper copies but cannot face reconstructing everything from scratch just at the present, a major, major job that would take a "Month of Sundays" and the rest !!

It would be appreciated if Larry, Ed or Llealah could get in touch please, would be appreciated

Regards to all

Mike Loker

Am seeking info. on the subject individual who is believed to have been born 8 Aug 1902, in Massachusetts and died 6 Oct 1988 in San Diego, Cal. at 86 years. His mother's maiden name may have been Olyott. Mr. Loker is believed to have been a member of Harvard's 1925 class. Indications are that he was married to Katherine Bogdanowich. No dates on this lady. California birth records would support two daughters of this union. They are Deborah Prescott Loker, b 1951 and Katherine Olyott Loker, b 1952. Family is very supportive of higher education with donations to both Yale and Harvard. Seek information on connection to the Mass. Line.

Mary Ann Loker, wife of Truman Burnes, dau of Wm Loker & Janet Thompson

I'm researching Mary Ann Loker, she was the wife of Truman Burnes. Truman was the son of James Burnes II and his wife, Mary Orme. James Burnes II was the son of James Burnes I and Jemima Brown. James purchased many tracts of land in Prince George's Co., MD and inherited land from his father, David Burnes. This land encompasses the present downtown area of Washington, DC and includes: the southern grounds of the White House, the Corcoran Library, the DAR Library, OAS, the Ellipse, the Treasury, the Smithsonian, the Old Post Office, the State Dept, Ford's Theatre, Judiciary Square--about 700 acres total.

I would like to find out more about the Loker family, Mary Ann's parents, William Loker and Thompson. I think that William and Janet had the following children:
Mary Ann Loker
Levina Loker
Arnold Loker
Lorodia Loker
Sevinia Loker
George Loker
William Loker
Thomas Loker

I think that the parents of William Loker are William Loker and Elizabeth Parrott Smith, Elizabeth is the daughter of James Smith and Mary Parker.

Any help appreciated, and I would be more than happy to share what info that I have.

Barb Price

At this point, I'm not sure what I can add as I'm pretty new to this research on this family. My mother was researching the family for many years and she died last year leaving me with a mass of slips of paper on various lines that she was working on. Regarding our line as I've found it in her papers is: Lavinia Loker m. to Henry B. Robertson. Lavinia's parents were William Loker, Jr and Elizabeth Thomas. Wm, Jr.'s parents were William Loker, Sr and Elizabeth Parrott Smith. Elizabeth was the daughter of James Smith and Mary Parker. Wm, Sr. was the son of Thomas Loker and Francis Aisquith. That's all I have. I have no idea where these folks were from or of any dates for them. If this makes a connection with anything you have, I'd appreciate knowing as it will help me get started. Thanks so much for responding

Dear Larry, tried e-mailing this note, but to no avail, so hoping you will receive it now. I have very little on Leonora Loker. A friend of mine found her name in the Natick Library papers. I haven't worked on the Loker Family for quite some time, and found that I also do not have the vital information for her. I do know that the name Leonora is in the Olyott family and Elizabeth had a sister named Leonora. Sorry to say that the child lived only 5 days. So I do believe there was a Leonora Loker. I will check the Natick Library again and see what I can find. I will write back as soon as I have the information and lets hope the papers are still there. Lois

Albee E. Loker Park, Natick MA

Officially named Albee E. Loker Recreational Park, the area was once the site of the original Bacon School, which was torn down in the late 1970s..The patch of land gained its current name after Natick native Donald P. Loker, a well-known stage and screen actor in the 1930s and 1940s (who is now deceased), donated $20,000 in 1981 to help turn the old school site into a park and requested that the area be named for his father.

This spring Town Meeting approved $10,000 to help pay for the installation of playground equipment at Loker Park. The park is a roughly 2-acre triangular area bordered by Bacon, Walnut and Belvidere streets.
Loker Family Land Framingham/Natick Massachusetts

I am in possession of plot plan of Land Owned by the Loker Brothers by W.W.Wight 1885-1886. The Lokers owned many acres that spanned across the Framingham/Natick town line. Walter Loker, a farmer, the son of Ephraim Loker lived on Hartford St., adjoining this parcel.

From what I have seen at the Framingham Historical Society, this large parcel was sold off for development in the late 1880s, early 1890s and 4 new streets were created for the lots. [A Street (Wilson St.), B. Street (Howe St.), C. Street or Malden St., D. Street, now Loker St.] I live on Loker St. and my house was built in 1894. The little schoolhouse, now church at the intersection of Hartford and Grant Streets was known as the Lokerville School. There is also an area on the Natick/Wayland town line referred to as Lokerville.

I am interested to know which Loker brothers owned this land. Was it Walter and his brothers (the sons of Ephraim) or was it the sons of Walter, who maybe inherited it after he died 1871/1872?

I do have history on the family of Walter Loker, if anyone is interested.
