Thank you for the reply and information. I'm related through James's brother Walter. (I Believe) Walter's son James Dewitt Loman has been a real treat to research ;) All three of James's daughters claimed to be part indian. Still researching though for any truth to that.
Thanks again.

The Lomans in Jefferson County, IL descended from Isaac Benjaman Loman of Hopkins County, KY. He is the son of William Loman of Madison County, KY. Neither is of Indian descent. So any Indian claim would have had to come through a maternal line.

Isaac Benjamin died in KY. His Widow Phoebe Ann Davenport remarried Leonard Franklin Coffman and the Coffman and Loman Family moved to Galitin Co. IL. After about six years there some of the Coffmans and Lomans moved to Jefferson Co.

My GG Grandfather, James Cassius Loman was a son to Isaac Benjamin Loman, and he raised his family in Jefferson Co. My Loman line through my dad and his siblings all lived in Jefferson County.

Bob

My GreatGrandfather John Washington Loman (1832 - 1892) was born in Madison County, Kentucky. He and his wife Eliza Ann Coffman moved to Jefferson County, Illinois before 1854. The first 7 of their 10 children, including my Grandfather William Lafayette Loman (1868 - 1948 were born in Jefferson County, Illinois. Most, if not all Loman's in Jefferson County, are descended from that group.

Thank you for the reply. James and Carolines kids have mentioned a few times to family members there father ( James) was an indian. This was back in the late 1800's early 1900's. This came from multiple grandkids. Trying to figure out how though. I have a picture of James Loman's mom and younger brothers n sisters, they dont look like to much indian to me. Still digging though. Thanks again

In 1800, William Loman posted a bond of 50 pounds sterling, in Madison County, Kentucky, to marry Sally Golden/Golding. They were married August 28, 1800. Neither Indians nor Negros had to put up a bond in order to marry. Some branches of the Family claim Indian Heritage. If so, it had to be either before or after William.

/s/John W. Loman, descended from John Washington Loman, who was an older brother of Walter Elias

I am trying to find information on a Dennis Loman who was born in 1835 in Ireland. According to census records he came here in 1870 (per 1900 census), but he is in the 1870 census with what looks like 5 kids. One is 9yrs old and they say he was born in PA, the other 4 kids say they are born in NJ. His wife is also from Ireland. If anyone has any information on him I would appreciate it. I am pretty sure he is the father of Augustus Loman who in the 1870 is listed as Dennis A Lowman.

Hello, Teresa. I have been hunting for you for quite a while. Concerning my original transcription of the Lomman Family History of 1877 which you have submitted to Rootsweb--I am the granddaughter of Shirley Lomman Caldwell originally from Barnesboro, PA, moving to Turtle Creek, PA. Shirley Lomman was the granddaughter of George A.D. Lomman and the daughter of Daniel. I am also the owner and transcriber of the 1877 Family History document, copies of which I distributed to my Lomman great aunts and great uncles in 1976 or 1977. My concern is that I have since changed some words of my transcription which I felt were incorrectly read originally. I plan to enter (a) this updated version on Rootsweb, (b) a copy of the original two-page document which is already on Ancestry.com attached to George A.D. Lomman's profile page in my Caldwell/Lomman/Eppley/Franklin/Repine/etc family tree, and (c) several newspaper articles about the iron box opened in Memorial Park Football Stadium, Mechanicsburg, PA., on 4 July 1976 in celebration of the bicentennial and witnessed by my two sons and me. My email address is tchs59@att.net. If you wish, I would be happy to hear from you or any other interested family members--maybe we could exchange info and photos. Thanks for answering. Shirley Caldwell Gray in Ohio

Loman in New Jersey

I am looking for information on Augustus Loman born in New Jersey according to census records. He was born in 1869 but I can not find him in the 1870 census. In 1880 he is living with a family that he is not related to working. I know he became a bookeeper and moved to Lehigh Pennslyvania. In the 1880 census is says his parents were from Ireland. There is an Edward Loman in 1880 that lives a little bit away from where Augustus lives also working with a family not related to him. These two might be related. Have not been able to find a birht record in New Jersey for Augustus. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I have an Uncle William Lee Loman (Dec 8, 1927)that I never knew. He married Arlene Dickey (Jul 11, 1930), on November 6, 1950. His Father was John Harvey Loman, a brother of my Father, William Theodore Loman. Does any of this ring a bell? John W. Loman

Re: Lomans in Jefferson County IL

Hopefully you're still checking this site. I just stumbled across this site myself. Maybe this is useless to you but the Lomans of Jefferson Co. Illinois have an immediate family reunion for the offspring of Jim or James Loman, he is America Bea's son, each year on the Sunday before Labor Day at Rend Lake State Park by Sesser, IL. Most of the Lomans live in this area of Sesser-Christopher-Benton, IL. If you where to attend I'm sure someone could fill in some of your blank spots in your family history. America Bea was part Native American as her mother was full blooded Cherokee from the Carolinas that escaped off the Trail of Tears in Union Co. with a Loman. They settled in Franklin Co., just south of Jefferson Co. and this Native American gal is buried in this area per my father who was a son of Jim Loman of Sesser. What is interesting, if you can believe all the facts of these stories handed down thru the years, is if the Lomans came from the Carolinas and some ended up in Oklahoma where the Lomans intermingled with Cherokees that survived the Trail of Tears which ended in Oklahoma. My email is momdad705@comcast.net if you wish to know more.

I am searching for some information about the Loman/Gilbreath family. Annanias Loman married Mary Jane Gilbreath in Oklahoma in the 1890's and I wonder if anybody has information on this family. Any information would be great. They lived in Pushmataha co. and Annanias was born in 1871. I think Mary Jane of of Choctaw decent.

JIm

Hi Bev, Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner... I was in the process of selling my home and moving... I am almost settled in now and hope to spend more time on research, If my time allows.. It has been more then 4 years since I purchased the censes for the rez in oklahoma and I had given them to my sister.. I will ask her if she can find an address or something on the packaging it came in because I am not sure if I can even begin to look for it as my emails have changed since then.. I believe it was an independent person that copied these rolls and I found out that if you write the rez they can supply them to you as well.. I think? You also mentioned you will be visiting there soon or you have gone there already during your summer vacation.. Did you visit the rez while on your holiday? I will do some searching to see if I can retrieve more info on where and how I found the censes for you.. Sorry again for not getting back sooner.. Annie

We cannot find any information regarding where he was born or parents. We have little information on 2 known siblings, Annie and John. This is pretty much all the information we have. Thanks.
