I am attempting to locate any brothers or sisters of my great-great grandfather and his wife. (We have not been able to trace any further than my great-great grandfather Washington Lomax) He was born March 1809 and died 1901 at the age of 92. His wife was Mary B. Scott Lomax, born 1821 and died April 8, 1898 at the age of 77.
The 1840 census for Louisa County, Virginia lists Washington Lomax as a free Negro between the ages of 24 and 36. According to our records, Washington was born in 1809.
The October 22, 1850 census for Louisa County, Virginia listed Washington Lomax as forty years of age. He was enumerated in the same dwelling house as Judy Fremont, age fifty, and Frances Freemont, age 22, both listed as mulattoes. His occupation was not listed.
December 11,1850, Washington Lomax was enumerated in Orange County, Virginia. He was listed as forty years of age, a laborer, along with the family of Edmund Henshaw, age 41, white; a farmer with $10,000 worth of real estate.
In 1870 he was enumerated in the James River Township of Buckingham Co. He was enumerated in the family of Edward Lomax 21, a teacher; Washington 57, a famer; his wife, Mary 42; Jennie 18; Desdmona 17; Archer 14; Frances 12; Emmaline 6; Mary 4 and Evangeline 6 months. The entire family was listed as mulatto.
Any information would be appreciated.
